When polities are trying to make the transition from authoritarianism (or anarchy) to democracy, notions of national identity aren't strictly defined and can't be taken for granted. Some groups within society may push for wide-ranging regional autonomy; others may insist on the concentration of power within the national capital. The trick lies in finding compromises that offer maximum respect to local aspirations while allowing for efficient government.

we need even smaller units that are than currently envisaged for effective governance.

. 10 - 15 rape victims daily is insanely high. And the figure must be higher because of the taboo and shame that exists.

Even when women are covered head to toe they are raped. It doesn't even help.

Sometimes I don't understand why Somalia is on number 4 or 5 of the worst places to be a woman. It should be number 1.

Nothing has changed, if your old enough to remember Xamar pre war times, girls and women would routinely be raped on their way to the market, coming from school, and poor girls hawking cajiin also bore the brunt of these attacks. any society that makes something natural like relationships a taboo and scarce product is inviting trouble, these kinds of social problems are rife in Muslim countries, it not hard to understand why.

  4. Egyptians are smart, relatively urbane and informed people by ME standards, they won't stand by while the MB and their allies take the country to the gutters. The economy is near close to collapse as Morsi and his incompetent government are busy legislating for women's bodies.

  5. Taiwan has one of the lowest fertility rates in the world at ~ 1.256, and Saudi Arabia is hardly affluent or educated -- although Muslim countries generally have to be classified differently, regardless of their development -- due to their pro-natalist norms. Otherwise the whole planet is on steady but sure fertility decline, South America, Asia, Oceania, everywhere even sub-Saharan fertility rates are tapering off. As i said before, this can only be good news for the planet; climate change, habitat loss, extinctions and even the world economy.
