  1. Asalaamu Alaykum, Walaahi brother I noticed that too. Although I don't watch t.v., its still in the living room, and its so weird because its addictive sometimes, like a control or something like that. However, I'm sure there are a lot of people that have those 'I love Islam' stickers on the bummer of their cars who don't even pray, its not the decorations its the intention.
  2. Asalaamu Alaykum, I think whether your're in High School, college, working, or where ever you are, this is the year 2003 AND temptations are every where. I think sometimes attending a western university helps you more to look at your religion and become stronger in it then living in a muslim country were the majority of people are all muslims, and lets not forget that drinking, partying and getting high on branches has been around since the youth of our grand parents. The reason we go to a university in the first place is to better our lives, and drinking I don't think helps with exams because you're destroying working cells. Khayr, you said the brother from U.A.E has only been here and lost his somali. Well, I'm sure he didn't do it intentionally.I assume he grew up in U.A.E around arabic most of the time, and when he came here maybe he wasn't around somali speaking people and thus his only choice was to communicate in English, its all natural. Also, I agree with Ilhaam that High School was worse when it came to practicing Islam. The fashion(hee hee hee) funny! I don't think I'll ever see a girl wearing a kamar with a tee shirt that says 'TOO HOT TO HANDLE', but we wore everything...I think I learned what Islam was when I came to college.
  3. Asalaamu Alaykum, For me it became quite apparent that when you examine other religions of the world, you truely discover how lucky you are to be a muslim. As we all know that the quran has given plenty of rights to women, but not every muslim knows that. I was talking with these somali guys one time, and then the subject turned to the 'role' of females in society. One of the guys blurts out that men are superior to woman, and that it is PROVEN that they are smarter than them. I thought it was a joke, but a second look at the guy indicated that this man was dead serious. Of course, I had to break it down to him, that even though men and women have different roles, they are still the same in the eyes of Allah. His rebuttal was that back in Somalia when a guy died his family got 150 lax, and for a girl it would only be 50(huh? )Obviously there is a lot of untapped ignorance floating around about religion, alot of it is a mix of culture and supersitions. Anyways, as I was saying in Hinduism, the man is literally the symbol of a godly figure. If a women is widowed she must cut off her hair, wear a white indian outfit, never eat meat, and never re-marry. The guy on the other hand doesn't do any of these things. Also the girl has to pay the money for the wedding, even if it is a burden on her. If she doesn't she gets murdered by her in-laws, in what is known as 'kitchen murder', and it means she gets burned while in the kitchen to make it look like an accident(Indian kitchens don't have windows). The prophet Muhammad(saw) said: 'the best of you(men) is he who treats his wife and woman kindly.' Islam permitts us to enjoy worldly life, while still working for our afterlife. It doesn't order us to be a hermit, and live an extremely acetic life. We don't have to meditate day and night while holding our breath till we get pounding headaches. We can eat! As normal as it seems to us, some don't agree. In Buddhism, monks can't get married, they totally give up worldly life and lock themselves in lonely sanctuaries. They fast for up to 2 days! They deprive themselves of sensuality, contentment, and go through tremendous thirst and hunger, and why might you ask, because they want to find NIRVANA(extreme, undescribable happiness). Why go through torture to gain happiness? Alhamdullilah for Allah making us Muslims, and may Allah guide them. For western religions like Christianity they have whats called a middle man who asks God to forgive so and so. In Islam, we can get direct link to God(without a connection fee)5 times a day. Why would a man dressed in robes be more special than me? He looks like another human, did God chose him? I didn't think so. In Islam God orders both the men and women to dress modestly so that we may be recognized as muslims, and not bothered. Non-muslim women especially those in the west on the surface do look like they have a lot of rights, but why does society expect them to show off their sexuality in order to earn respect. Not all of them dress like hoochie mamas but it is expected of them to do that. The surprising thing is that all the famous clothing are mostly designed by males, who design it in a way that is appealing to men. Then I find it very hypocritical that they only act god fearing on Sundays, and do whatever they might(even forbidden things) because as long as they believe Jesus is their saviour, its all good. I am not trying to belittle anyones beliefs, I am only mentioning what I know for that particular belief. I just wanted to mention as we already know that we are lucky to have accepted Islam, and may god guide us to continue to practice it to the fullest. Amiin.
  4. Asalaamu Alaykum, Man, thats way I don't fall for just any guy, because they might have the same story as Darman(no offense! ) Darman my advice is for you to move on, and stop breaking unsuspecting girls hearts, and no what comes around goes around. P.S. ---It is a known fact that guys lie about 99.99% of the times, so girls if you keep this in mind, ya'll will be triumphant

    Dancing Fever?

Asalaamu Alaykum, That was a scary journey  (Being possessed)! May Allah grant us Jannah, Amiin.
  6. Asalaamu Alaykum. Yep! A year it is indeed, but thats not that long, especially these days. A year to me is like 3 monthes. My advice is don't retire so soon
  7. Mailaka I would definately say so! Scorpion_sista sorry for the late reply, I thank you for your advice as well as everyones. Okay ppl, some people were suggesting that I kidnapp the man...helloooo  , did I say he is like almost 200lbs., and I'm not close to picking up his hand! Anyways, I appreciate the advice, and I want to get the pepper spray(I like that advice!)...Thanks and I'm okay!
  8. Asalaamu Alaykum, That letter reminded me of the letter the mayor of Maine was writing to the somalis there(to not bring their relatives there). I think that the lady Pat truly thinks that her religion is the right one, but I think if Allah wills and she is provided with islamic materials that she might be guided. A lot of people tell me, you have such a strong, and unshakable culture...I tell them is not the culture thats unshakable, its Islam.
  9. I want to let everyone know alhamdullilah I'm okay. The past few days I slept over my friend's house, because I was too freaked out to stay at home by myself. I just got back home, and since I don't have a caller I.D., I don't know who has been calling.I haven't heard from that psycho guy(alhamdullilah) for now, but if I hear from him again I will definitely take stronger action. Staying with people, rather than just being all alone by myself really alleviated my fear. For now I just have to watch my back,be very careful especially since I come from work really late.
  10. Rudy, I wish I was joking, but NO! I live by myself, and my family leaves in another state. Just last night he called 10 times,I picked up once and when I heard his voice I hung up, the rest of the rings I didn't bother to listen to. Most of the time I put the phone on off. I did call the police, but they haven't done nothing yet, and I don't want to put a hold on my life or move away. This is weird  , I never thought a somali guy was going to do something as dramatic as this. I absolutely think that this man is unstable
  11. I also heard that Ariel Sharon was to make a visit to washington on 9/11,but he delayed. It was the first time that Israel started to use these bombs on the defenseless Palestinians, and all the attention of the world was on Israel, they needed some type of diverse-9/11. Interesting... Americans are good people, but they are puppets of the gov't, they are given subliminal messages, that make them believe in order to be patriotic they must agree with Bush! I hope someone stop this madman, before he destroys the peace of the universe!
  12. I have this 'psycho' somali guy stalking me, can someone help me  . I don't know how he managed to get my phone number, he keeps calling my apartment. I told him that I was about to get married, but he said if he can't have me NO ONE will!He even called to say that he will kill me! This guy is like 200lbs, and I think if he finds me walking with my little self, I don't think I can use my taebo move  I told this guy 50 times I don't want him, I have no interest in HIM, but he keeps stalking me, and yesterday, my friend came to pick me up, and I saw his car in the parking(his ugly car too), and when my friend dropped me off at my apartment, I found a letter written in Somali, about his freakin jacayl for me....what a psycho.....Man do I have more than 'exam' problems to handle
  13. To be honest, I am more conservative on SOL.In real life I am talkative(once I get high on caffeine)and really funny.I think my true "real life" personality is hard to mask anywhere, so my writing comes out along with my personality.
  14. Well..what made me laugh today was this old chinese lady I was chatting with at the bus stop. She started laughing(I didn't really understand her english) and I started laughing too , she was so cute!
  15. yiiiiiiiihoooooooooooooooow! I'm unique ya'll I got:China-alligator-apple
  16. Asalaamu Alaykum and welcome silent-sistah! I always loved that hadith. Another thing about monday and thursday(the days the prophet fasted) is that when the angels switch, and inform Allah about your status, so it is good to fast on those 2 days.
  17.    Wow! I didn't know that! Just kidding Anyways, I heard about those sayings, but the truth is when you are 100% happy and confident in your religion nothing that anyone says is relevant! Stay proud, stay strong, and most of all stay muslim

    Harmony ?

Welcome Positive...and might I say I love positivity to surround me.
  19. i'm very ambitious...and kind-hearted
  20. Asalaamu ALaykum: Wow! I think about the future, but for me I don't make it the focus of attention, and focus as much as I can on the present. Well I have some plans, but my main objective is to work hard and kick some ass!!!!!!
  21. Asalaamu Alaykum: I haven't read what everyone wrote, but I'm sure they wrote what I would've said. Anyways, I can only personally speak for myself as a woman. Human goals shift according to what the person is trying to accomplish. Right now my ultimate goal is my education, and along with that is my future career. Somewhere on my list, yes! I absolutely wanna get married. The reason I want to get married is to have my own family for one, and secondly to have a man!I also want to get married because thats the only 'halal' way to you know
  22. Asalaamu Alaykum: Shyhem I completely agree with you. Islam is like a good movie, and all the 'lead' actors suck, and all the bad parts are given to the good cast. Although their is absolute parity between the genders in Islam, alot of so-called muslim countries don't implement it.I actually find western countries like the U.S. to be a little close to the teachings of Islam on human rights issues. Let me tell you this story: There was this Saudi princess that fell in love with this guy, so she decided to run away with him to get hitched. In order to escape the palace she dressed up like a man, pinned her long hair, and put on a hat, and a fake mustache. When they got to the airport, the security person checked for I.D.,and as he was checking her I.D. the pin in her hair fell off,and her long hair was revealed. The security then took both of them to the back room, and when they discovered that the man dressed like a woman was actually the princess, they quickly notified the palace. The palace ordered both of them to be killed...and they both got killed together. This is just the surface of what actually happens in some so called muslim countries.I found that story to be so sad,and most of all very unISLAMIC .
  23. Intellectual is someone of 'high modernization' that can comprehend things that other people can't easily comprehend.
  24. Arrin fiican baad no soo jeedisey. Wadankeena inaan ilawno maaha! We have to stop talking more, and start doing more action in order to help our people, even helping in sending academic books to Somalia is a start, if you visit Somalia volunteer at the local schools...teach english, math, science, it really would make a difference. I also believe that the old people need to start giving the younger people the leadership roles, this is our time. I am very hopeful that Somalia will one day be a great place to live, inshallah!
