  1. Foreign Office Strengthening the UK's relationship with Somaliland 25 November 2010 Minister for Africa Henry Bellingham met the President of Somaliland Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud Silanyo in London on 24 November. This is the President's first visit to the UK since his successful election in June this year. He was accompanied by the Ministers for Foreign Affairs and Planning. Minister for Africa Henry Bellingham said: "The UK is proud of it's historical ties to Somaliland, and we are keen to maintain and strengthen our very close bilateral relationship". The UK also has strong links to Somaliland through members of the diaspora, many of whom contribute positively to Somaliland's development as well as to communities across the UK. Somaliland has made admirable progress in maintaining relative peace and stability in a difficult region. Somaliland has set a positive example of democracy and can play an important role in enhancing security and development in the Horn of Africa. To this end, the UK is committed to supporting Somaliland's development and cooperating in areas of shared interest to ensure a positive and sustainable future for Somaliland and the region. 2. Xaaji, I hope its nonsense but proof suggests otherwise. President Siilaanyo has been in office for only 4 months and within this short period, -Somaliweyn politicians visited him in Hargeysa(Kaluun, etc); -Arrested members of the TFG Parliament in Borama were released without being asking to distance themselves from the TFG; -Or are planning to visit(Buuba, Jama Yare, etc); -the Presidents of Galmudug and Xiin iyo Xeeb were invited in Somaliland; -the foreign and interiour minister anounced they want to cooperate with Puntland; -the oil, minerals and water minister has even met Puntland politicians while abroad; -the administration made it clear that their foreign policy objective is not seeking political recongnition but economic, development and trade relations; So, there is just too much to just ignore. And knowing Siilaanyo's history of seeking 'Somaliweyn', I would suggest not to ignore these issue's.
  3. Originally posted by Libaahe*: What is Somaliweyn-2.0? Somaliweyn-2.0 comprises, in essence, the following components aimed at re-establishing the erstwhile Republic: * A federal structure incorporating a ‘significant' (whatever that may mean) degree of regional autonomy; * Establishment of Hargeisa as the capital of the new Republic; * The first President of the new Republic to be the leader of SL (possibly the current President of SL, Ahmed Mohamed Mahmoud "Silanyo"); * Guarantee of SL holding either the Presidency of Premiership in future governments of the Republic; * More equal (50/50?) distribution of Parliamentary seats between SL and Somalia. Clearly, this formulation is designed to address the inequalities of the terms of the hasty union in 1960 between ex-British Somaliland and ex-Italian Somaliland, when the ex-British Protectorate rushed into union with the ex-Italian colony in a frenzy of nationalistic fervour with no negotiations or pre-conditions. ............................ In other words, is President Silanyo willing to sacrifice the legitimacy of his administration in order to protect the discredited promoters of Somaliweyn-2.0 with whom he once sympathised, and perhaps still does on some level? We shall see. [/QB] Very interesting article from Ahmed M.Ibrahim Egal, the son of Ina Egal(AUN). I have heard this couple of times now from diffrent sources. I hope President Siilaanyo knows what he is getting in to. A couple years back the same 'Somaliweyn' politicians contacted President Riyaale about this same strategy. But Riyaale said the South has to be pacified and there needs to be goverment with a mandate on the ground before any negotiation can take place and he didnt want to get his administration involved in the political minefield on the South. By the way, back then Kulmiye politicians accused President Riyaale of secretely negotiating with South-Somalia.
  4. to the Admin: I suggest you remove this topic for onbvious reasons.
  5. Borama is the only Somali city where there never has been war, destruction or fighting. Its the most beautifull Somali city,it has the most educated number of people, its residents never had to flee and become mass refugees. So, lets assume for one second that the people living in Awdal know where their interest lies and they dont need refugees living abroad who's cities are destroyed, dont need to tell them whats good for them and whats peace is all about. I advice you guys to visit Borama and ask for their advice, how to establish peace.
  6. Well done by H.E.President Siilaanyo. Focusing on establishing economic, trade and development relations is a form of recongnition, which will benefit the people of Somaliland and will help foster cooperation between the two sides.
