Abiy Ahmed, the prime minister designate of Ethiopia is an imposter and liar.

If I didn't write that headline,  the Somali and even  some western media would have written a false headline  saying, " The first Muslim prime minister of Ethiopia"

Most of them still are, believe it or not.

This is only among the Oromos. There are common names used in Afar, Agew and Tigray but they are like Negash, Hadish, Siyum..etc nothing strictly religious.

No forward no backward movement. You mean after all this termoil and bloodsheds it is where it was?

If you have time read the thread about why the Somali did not join EPRDF in the 80s. Its still exhaustive and although getting fewer and fewer there are Somalis who still believe that should not entangle ourselves deeper than necessary.

Not to worry. Kilil will be OK.

The next big agenda for EPRDF is how to change into all regions party.

This is a symbolic gesture! Oromo won't be satisfied until Oromo is an official language and Finfinnee is incorporated into Oromia. In other words, they want an equal status or outright independence.

Che,

How was Siera Maestra of Ethiopian politics.

You are absolutely correct and now will be emboldened to demand everything at least one group of them is emboldened.

Addis Ababa is going to be Waterloo between Amhara more than half the population and Oromo.

The language issue I think wait next 10 years. A lot of nationalities might prefer English to put the whole thing to bed. Tigray supports Amharic to maintain the use of their Alphabet Geez.

Poor Tigray can't get a break. Tough crowd here. Isn't it amazing SOLers have now become too cynical. I am afraid somethings can be missed and disbelieved even when its the only truth.

Oodweyne,

You have now made the Tigray the british. From Egypt to Kenya everyone now knows what the Tigray people are. Some correct some wrong image. Either cursing and cussing them or blessing them thanking them for showing up at right time for some peoples not much in betweeen.

It reminded me of a Somaliland official who once muzed that almost everyone he met of any significance was a Tigray.

Government is a thankless job unless the guy who follows is worst.

"laboratory tested" that is a new one that can be copy righted.

One issue to make clear. His fast move through ranks in the military and he was in communications not front lines (miss that).

Except for Tigray and Afar everybody else was fast tracked to balance the positions for all nationalities. When Mengistu was defeated these two made up more than 85% of all the fighters and almost everyone of commanders. What they did to include the rest was send home 30,000 of their fighters, and fast track the others, but for themselves it takes 5 years to go one higher which is normal.

For therest was down to one year if they were good in studies.

Ethiopia 'hero' runner gets asylum donations after Oromo protest sign.

A crowd-funding campaign has raised more than $40,000 (£30,000) to help Ethiopia's Olympic marathon silver medallist Feyisa Lilesa seek asylum.

He crossed his hands above his head as he finished the race - a gesture made by Ethiopia's Oromo people who have suffered brutal police crackdowns.

He says he may be killed if he goes home but Ethiopia's government says he will be welcomed as a hero.

However, state media is not showing photos of him crossing the line.

There has been a wave of protests in Ethiopia in recent months over a series of frustrations, including attempts by the governments to reallocate land in the Oromo and Amhara regions.

US-based Human Rights Watch says security forces have killed more than 400 Oromo protesters, a figure the government disputes.

Rule 50 of the Olympic charter bans political displays or protests and the IOC say they are gathering information about the case.

the Harowo zone has  Major towns including , Jarre, Lafa Ciise, Wajaale , Awbarre, Dharwanaaje, Araabi, Dambal, Sheed dheer, Gogti, Xerogeel, and Shabeelle.  At the census of 2001,  the Awbare district alone was one of the largest with 180,000 residents.  Yet the whole region is forced to go under Faafan region controlled in Jigjiga. Since Jijigs is the capital of the whole Somali zone, it should not be also ruling the Awdal community zone. There are no roads among these major towns.
At the census of 2001, the Awdal community numbers were 480,000.  Comparing  to the population growth of Ethiopia from 70 million in 2001 to 100 million in 2017, the Awbare zone could hit close 700,000 or more today, yet Cabdi Illey blocked the Harowo region to stand alone in its own resource and population capacity.
THis community is a very patient community, but things are getting from bad to worse. Just this week, the Liyu police had rapped two sisters in Dharwanaaje district and nons of them were arrested or prosecuted. They say , " Cabdi Illey baa noo fasaxay kufsiga iyo wax kasta"  This Liyuu police have been occupying the Harowo region since 2016 to oppress the people who complained land grabs  from Illey people. It was the land grabbing of the Tigray in Addis area which caused the uprising of the Oromo.

The Somali zone under Cabdi Illey has done a lot of developments, yet most of those are concentrated in his tribal home land region. It is about time the millions of dollars  donated by the international community to develop the region to reach the AWdal area of the Kilil.
One more warning. If Somali tribes keep behaving like hungry savages with greed and impunity, the AWdal community from both side of the border must find ways to unite and declare it's own autonomous state by ignoring the border ( Xuduud Beenaadka).
Here, the Town of Lafaciise,  yet is not even a district (Degmo).

This farms are developed by the locals without no help from Illey.
