Somalia: 2010 Person of the year Puntland President Abdurrahman Sh Mohamed Mohamud Faroole

 

Garowe (RBC) Puntland’s president, Abdurrahman Mohammed Farole is named as the person of the year in Somalia according to RBC Radio’s evaluation of the year 2011.

 

Mr. Abdurrahman Mohammed Farole, who was elected as the president of Puntland’s northeastern Somalia on 8th January 2009 has become a widely effective politician in Somalia in 2010 after his leading expressed good governance, transparence and institutional development.

 

President Farole bravely demonstrated through his leading to guide the government organizations with out corruption and sincere, by which every democratically elected leader is known for.

 

By the year 2010, President Abdurrahman Mohammed Farole and his administration accomplished the best and the highest rank of establishing a political acts which may support as the union of Somali’s integrity as a nation. The Puntland administration stepped several steps which seemed to be successful.

 

Internal policy reforms

 

The president and his administration succeeded to join together the security agencies such, the police and prison gurads that were made as one section under one administration.

 

The administration played a political and military decision which to tackle pirates operating in coastal districts of the region where many of the pirate leaders had been arrested or prosecuted.

 

President Farole also showed extra ordinary decision which made suitable to put an-end the biggest and dangerous group who were fighting against Puntland security forces led by Sheikh Mohammed Said Atam in the Galgala Mountains of Bari region.

 

Puntland government signed an agreement with Saracen international to train security forces who are trying to uproot the pirates and other criminals in the region.

 

External relations

 

His Excellency, President Abdurrahman Farole has made clear his political intension towards re-gaining the Somalia’s nationhood, unity of Somali people and peace territory for Somalis.

 

Reassuring these goals, the administration hosted a widely Islamic meeting which held in Garowe April 2010. The meeting was participated by the most notorious Somali-Islamic scholars and the outcome of this conference was ‘the call for peace in Somalia’.

 

His second step, the president of Puntland with his cabinet held the first conference for the Somali women from inside the country and abroad, and later the Somali women in this meeting formed a common and with-out border council for the women.

 

Not only these, but also his excellence president Farole attempted and has won, the first time since 20 years of wars to gather and host 15 Somalia’s football teams for ‘Somalia’s Soccer Competition which was held in Garowe in December 2010. That is to know, that three of the 15 football teams from Somaliland (northwest of Somalia administration) did not present for the competition.

 

During his first term of the office, president Abdurrahman Farole had made an important issue the administrations foreign relation and had obtained several invitations from various governments and leaders in the east Africa, the Africa continent and the world. Some of those countries some of the countries he went on visit are; Ethiopia, Kuwait, Egypt, Kenya, UAE, Turkey, Libya and Yemen.

 

President Farole searched to build the administration’s relation with the foreign as economically, politically and also invest in Puntland.

 

Also, the administration won to sign investment agreements with several Muslim-countries owned companies such as kuwait, and most of those agreements are on process.

 

Since the collapse of Somalia’s central government, Puntland was and still the main base of internally displaced people (IDPs) from other regions of the country fleeing from wars. President Abdurrahman Farole asked the IDPs to help maintain peace and prevent insecurity acts in the region.

 

The government established especial camps for the IDPs where some of the land was paid by the government. And also the government called the international relief agencies and local NGOs to help the IDPs Puntland cities such as; Garowe, Galkaio, Bosaso and Qardo.

 

Co-operating with international and local aid agencies

 

Since president Farole took the office in 2009, the policy of Puntland administration towards aid agencies had been effective as 100%, while the government relation with the aid agencies become fully oriented.

 

The international community i.e. the United Nations is genuine about the prospects and the development activities in Puntland. During President Farole’s congregational testimony of 8th January a letter was sent by Mark Bowden- the UN’s Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Somalia who welcomed all the steps which president Farole made in his leading manner.

 

Mr. Bowden described president Farole leading as hundred percent of success after he had shown good governance.

 

In conclusion, there is no more words to say but only to mention that president Abdurrahman Farole has become the only pride and the politician of the year in Somalia. And all the Somalis whether living inside or Diasporas are mainly congratulating to president Abdurrahman oh his success as the PERSON OF THE YEAR in 2010.
