Farah stands as one of the literary giants of the Horn of Africa. Another is the Sudanese writer Tayeb Salih, whose Season of Migration to the North gave the world a mirror to confront the intimate violence of colonial encounters. In Salih’s pages, the Nile became not only a river but a stage upon which history’s dissonances played out: South meeting North, intimacy shadowed by power, the postcolonial subject forced to grapple with both desire and destruction. Salih distilled the dilemmas of Sudan into a single haunting novel that continues to echo across languages and generations.
