Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro has called on the region’s business leaders to provide urgent assistance to communities affected by a worsening drought in the western region of Awdal.

Speaking at a high-level meeting held at the presidential palace in Hargeisa, President Irro urged prominent businesspeople and representatives of major companies to mobilise resources to support tens of thousands of people facing severe water and food shortages.

The meeting was attended by the Vice President, senior cabinet members, and key figures from the business community. The president stressed that swift intervention is essential to prevent further deterioration of the humanitarian situation.

We need the full support of our business sector to save lives, President Irro said. Thousands are at risk, and we must act before it is too late, he added.

Earlier, the Somaliland government appealed to the international community and humanitarian agencies to provide emergency aid to drought-affected areas. President Irro emphasised that timely assistance could be the difference between life and death for many residents in the region.
