UN condemns murder of Somali activist in Mogadishu

Nairobi (11 July 2005) - The United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Somalia, Mr. Maxwell Gaylard, has strongly condemned the murder of Abdulkadir Yahya Ali, co-founder and director of the Centre for Research and Dialogue (CRD), in Mogadishu early this morning.

"We are shocked and dismayed by this assassination and send our sincere condolences to his family and friends," Mr. Gaylard said. "Yahya was a committed advocate for peace and reconciliation, and his optimism never faltered. This is a great loss to Mogadishuand Somaliaat this particular time when people of his courage and tenacity are most needed."

One morning I'd like to wake up and read about a warlord, or two, who has been shot dead in Somalia. Why do we have to wait for these ba$tards to serve out the terms of their natural lives? Surely we have unemployed assassins in Muqdisho who would take care of this. Anyone know anybody?

Olef, warlords will cannot be killed by civilians, impossible – that person will have their entire family wiped out for even attempting – only anther warlord can kill becuz he would have the resources to deal with the aftermath.

People die in Somalia everyday that’s the sad part, but when people who are contributing to the development of Somalia are murdered, whether they be aid workers, journalists or civilian advocates of peace and stability – to hear this is really discouraging. Very sad, I wish all the best for his family and friends in dealing with this tragedy.

Surely there is someone out there who lost everyone and everything to not have fear of any repercussions.

Marxuumka Eebe ha u naxariisto. A man who could have afforded long time ago to depart and stay away from that troublesome country, but for the sake of a nation and its ailing citizens chose to stay behind and educate the masses how we can live together. Allow u gargaar ummadaada.
