  1. Nice simple story line that conveys its message well without any pretenses. Very intresting indeed.

As Baashi and Check mate said before me, a piece written by a very reasonable nomad oo najis najis dhalay ah :D

I concur with the compliments on the story, everything else is for personal interpretation and interactions i suppose.

  2. ^^trisha is the british version of jerry springer, with her own show (now on c5 not itv ;) ) dealing with lie detectors and drunken women who cheat on their 34 yrs younger lovers.

wiilo, do u want me 2 describe to u the qalanjo i see in the mirror or the ugly stepsister every1 else sees when i walk down the road? :D Dnt worry, i am in the nhs waiting list for a reconstruction surgery for the black claudia shiffer i know i can b icon_razz.gif

  3. lol, so many flattery being pushed back and forth, and no honest discription amongst them. I would give all of you the impression i have of you, laakin even the boogyman is nice compared 2 angry somali ppl, so i'll calmly retreat back b4 some1 charges like a bull who's seen a tomato juice.

  4. Brown, didn't u get the memo on reducing female power yet? Since men have proven to be the better cooks, they have taken over the culinary responsibilities, therefor depriving females of the world of what little power they had and enslaving them to the mirage known as man.

As for the q, who cares as long as he hasn't been on jerry springer...But then again, anything with a pulse will do before girls are subjected to the, ehm, charms of brownie here and his croonies :D

  5. ^^tut tut, focus on the first, that way u avoid the costs of a second wedding ;)

Somali weddings never turn out the way the vride wants to, often causing rifts between hubby who wants a quiet cerimony and wify who wants everything from satin custom made dress to freshly grounded roses. Of course, that is before the girl's family get involved and take over the organisation, making the bride as unhappy as the groom. Somehow it is a dreamday for everyone but the two people getting married.

I always say, if u want to have fun at a wedding, be a guest and never a bride/groom :D

  6. Look for an oday with macawis and bakooro @ one of the corporate booths and that's good old Baashi

Baashi, such an outfit will make u stand out in a crowd, laakin it isn't complete, what happened to the cimaamad?

Rent car-ka waaban kansalayaa hadii aad cab driver tahay; dee maqaaxidana i habee amaba i tilmaan saaxiib.

I can already imagine poor baashi oo kabihi laga siibtay in a dark boston allyway, poor guy bare footed and holding to his bakooro and macawiis with one hand while the other hold his hat :D Baashi u like taking risks soo ma aha ;)

  7. Xu it happened back home as well, parents knew what they kids have been upto away from home before they even came back from schools/dugsis. They would know who got beaten by the macalin, who fought with whom and who didn't turn up for their lessons and where they were.

The best way to deal with it is just grin and bear it, thank them for their advice. That way they will know that you are a smart girl who is aware of whats good for her and who is approachable, one thing they often complain about with the younger generation is tthat they never listen to their elders. If you show them respect dispite your opinions, word will soon spread that regardless of your style, you have a sound head on those shoulders.

A quick question, haven't you lot found that it works the other way around? Seeing a somali elder and treating them as a parent, i mean. I have this inbred sense of responsibility that has many times seen me make a fool of myself for people that were very suspicious of me. When ever i see a somali elder i have a need to go out of my way and help them in some way. I would be offering a women to carry their grocery bags for them if i saw them with a heavy load, it even extended to offering my umbrella on a rainy day. In return i would get a firm no thanks and a suspicious look as i was going to rob them as soon as they let their gaurd down.

It's not because i am a nice person or that i am some sort of raaliya, though i wish that was the case, it is this inbred training given by somali parents i think. Think about it, when you are rude to a somali elder, don't you experience a bang of regret?

  8. question:

Pray tell where in that thread or any of my replies does it mention anything about this war being a southern war?

    answer:

There has to come a time when you people stop the wailing

By we people I can only assume you mean the southerners who have been hit the most with the civil war.

Now to finish of this fiasco.

I’ll probably laugh at how offensive you can be.

I’m as offensive about northerners as southerners if they’re all as paranoid as you are my friend. I make no apologies for other people’s perceptions. When you take a comment I wrote about ME and turn it into something about YOU then, my dear, you are trying to force your own pain and suffering on me and expect me to care! Force and intellectual bullying is not something I take lightly. I repeat again, if you decide to take offence to a piece that was not meant to offend then tough. Expect no apologies.

Has the offender become the offended  Seems like you not the only one reserving the right to offend eh ;)

    Mac salaama.

  9. Now people, let us look at the moral high ground ngonge has reached. I know juxa won’t justify your attacks with an answer, she has washed her hands off you much like a butcher washes his hands after a pig slaughter (not that I am suggesting that you are a pig, but a metaphor is a metaphor, just like shish kebabs), the way I see it, I have no problem with occasionally getting my hands dirty. Now I know it is tedious and serious and self indulgent, but since I have already been accused of this, I see no reason to not indulge myself some more. For those who easily get bored, please bear with me.

Now ngonge don’t feel saddened by juxa’s absence, the same blood flows through our veins so you attacks still have a target to hit. Now here goes nothing people.

“since you refused to take heed of my advice and continued on posting on and reading this thread, I see no reason why I should not be blunt too and say my piece (as you already know I cherish my right to offend).â€

I do beg your pardon, I didn’t know people would have to heed you advice OR ELSE. Will my dear sister find a horses head in her bed? Or are you going to send your ngongettes after her? But still, fair is fair, the man warned my sister to stay away from a topic he has opened at the discretion of the owners of this site. Hm, interesting.

“I don’t know about your pain, didn’t ask to know about your pain and am not interested in your pain. This is your very private business. If you wish to share it with people then it’s your choice and you are free to do so. However, don’t shove your pain down my throat and demand that I feign fake sympathy. Events that happened in YOUR personal life do not concern me nor keep me awake at night. Events that happened to the Somalis in general do, at times. You need to wipe those tears away and see the distinction between the two.â€

No one wants you to know any pain, and as you pointed out, it is none of your business and no one wants to share anything with you. No one wants your sympathies nor did anyone ask for your cheap condolences nor does anyone expect you to have the slightest understanding of matters. So no need to advice us, or anyone on how to deal with grieve. However you have a right to keep quiet on matters you understand little about.

“There has to come a time when you people stop the wailing. When someone starts a topic about domestic violence a number of people get offended because they happen to be female and females are, usually, the ones at the receiving end of such a sick social disease. The issue becomes personalised and extremely absurd. Young, single women start tearfully hypothesising about being struck and recount their vengeful reactions to such an artificial scenario!â€

By we people I can only assume you mean the southerners who have been hit the most with the civil war. The fact that you are comparing this to females getting angered by discussions on abuse shows how lacking you are. Civil wars involve people and the individuals dying aren’t all orphans so it is very personal. There is a difference between being touched by something that has no effect on you and watching someone take the micky on issues that involve the deaths of people, and thus of families, whether they died or survived. But now, I too am becoming like a broken record.

“One should not attempt to run before one could walk. When reading a piece, one needs to comprehend it, understand it and analyze it (if need be). To go into a topic with preconceived ideas would only add to the confusion of someone with an already poor reading comprehension skill.â€

Talk about not practicing what you preach. Now there is so much talk on rights to offend and yet even you, ngonge, are too smart to cross that line for a second time. Although I can’t help but wonder, would you actually have the audacity to make a joke about the civil war much like the one about the Jew. Somehow I doubt it.

As for those that have defended ngonge, I will not be so crass as to make a list, but one can see a pattern forming. And it is clear that what the most of them have in common is the same thing that is making them stick up for ngonge. Kolba run sheeg waa ceeb sheeg.

    Now to answer this:

Was he supposed to xawaashee his take on the matter and lie to the nomads, pretend he was torn apart, hurt and that he cried all day long?

No, of course not. This is what i would expect from anyone who hears about something bad happening to fellow country mates- and of course fellow muslims.

1)say Alxamdulilah that my loved ones and i have been spared from this.

2)May allah have mercy on those trapped in such a situation.

3)Keep quiet on the matter as it didn't involve me and silence beats worthless opinions, even if they are humorous.

At least that is what i would do. I am glad that so many of you were spared, i wouldn't wish it on any one of you.

  10. And the plot thickens ladies and gentlemen.

Femme, sister, though it appears quiet obvious, lemme ask you this maxaa ku gubaayo aa la yiri

The "you2 you were so fond to put in bold emposes more individual than your pretty mind can comprehend. For your info, juxa's mind is crystal clear and she isn't hiding behind smoke screens.

Now i really dnt see why you should be getting involved, as you fail to grasp the issues at hand. But let me indulge you for a bit.

    Jokes abt blondes and politicians=good.

Jokes abt people trapped in a war not of their making=bad, very very veeery bad.

Now if that concept doesnb't register in the minds of the deffenders, pls let me know as i will be obliged to expressed in a more laymans term, tho i am fully confident in your deducting capabilities.

  11. Let's look at this objectively :D

Now honestly, who is carrying the emotional baggages? Death becomes all of us(intii dhimatay allah u naxariisto, but how abt the silac ku noolayaasha?!)

Allah helped those who still wake up sweating and screaming just thinking themselves back bare-feeted, at the back of a lorry, in a 90 degree heat going south, somewhere called kismaayo.

to the lolly-sucking and nintendo-playing>>>I'll be back for you.

  12. In the same way that these humourless individuals would whinge about their right to be offended, the jester also can, wittily, moan about his right to offend.

when one laughs, jests and jokes around all the time, one also, surprisingly enough, becomes a tiresome and tedious individual too

Ah! who would have thought that ngonge and i would have something in common ;)

Now if you will all excuse me, i'm off to the local synagoge, maybe i can find a surviver of the holocaust and lighten up their dull and serious-indulgent lives by showing them how to seek the funny and witty side of the situation.

Waw, i have benefited from reading this, ngonge kudos to you my courtjester nomad brother.

  13. Brown hala yaabin, how could they possibly understand the magnitude of the suffering, when they haven't experienced it first hand and are too emotionally detached from it all.

Gartood waaye if even what little intellect they have fails to paint a horrific image of suffering in their heads, maybe they need to see it on video with firmiliar movie stars depicting the scenes for them and then their imagination can work a bit better

  14. Raula there was no need to go down that road :D Ar ceebeey tacaala.

As for the rest, i'm actually glad to see that some of our nomads r proud of their female counterpart. Nin yaaban hadii oo aabahaa naag hindi ah aroosi lahaay maanta madaxa aad kilkili leheed ee wax iskula har. Ragnimada aad sheegeeyso habar soomaali ah aa kugu soo barbaarisayee edabti iyo aqlaaqdii laguugu soo barbaarshay dib ugu noqo.

  15. Sometimes it is jst inappropriate to be funny abt certain subjects, but hey, what do i know if my sense of humor fails me when we talk abt a war that distroyed so many innocents  As the song said "thank god it is them instead of you", how appropriate

As for me, it started with the government crashin down, some weapon wearing rebels came to our house and ordered us to get out and to safety cos they were gonna attack a villa two houses down and the explosion would reach our house. We made the trek to an aunty's house.

After that we returned home and tried to get on with life, though life no included regular sounds of gunshots and classmates getting shot every now and then. At one point we were stuck in our house with bullets raining down on us and my parents trying to keep us all down. As soon as it stopped we fled our house, though it was in the middle of the night. For me it was a huge adventure and being up at that time was something exciting. I remember my sister saying "where did those rocks come from" as we walked past firmiliar teritories and my uncle replying "those aren't rocks theya re bodies."

Anyway we were transported out of the city by a cousin who took us halfway to Balcad, we were stranded in the middle of nowhere and were at the mercy of farmers that were extorting us out of every last penny when they weren't making fun of the city folk. After four days camping under a tree my abti came and took us the rest of the way to his house in Balcad. We stayed there couple of weeks and returned home when the government was overthrown and things had settled in a bit.

After that the whole tribalism thing began and the bililiqeeysi commenced. Strangers we had never seen wanted to get the little things the left behind the lst time they plundered our house and our abtiyaal had to move into our house to safegaurd it while we stayed with a neighbour, gaurded by a dozen soldiers. At that point my parents had decided enough was enough and we went to egypt, accompanied by our mother. A trip that was to last 3months extended to almost 15 yrs, give or take.

Inti muslimiin ah oo ku dhimatay dagaalkaas Allah u naxariisto, aamiin.

  16. This thread has been so much better than the average eastenders episode, even the national enquirer doesn't contain such explosive contents.

a big thnx to you all for i now have no need to go out and buy another weekly gos mag, nor do i need to waste time watching my daily dose of neighbours, home and away and coronation street.

But besides its entertainment value, did this topic really need to go where it went?

Now, to go back to the article originally posted. I think the whole "french maid is sexy" ideology has been around for a long time, only at the time it was something sordid that a man(always a white middle aged middle-upper class) would hide from his wife. She would become the mistress, away from all respectable, prying eyes.

Now it seems that the whole thing is being made glamourous. Hollywood tends to do that to the subjects it covers. And as for the stay at home mommy, i can't really have an opinion on it as i haven't got a child and lack the emotions that children invoke in their mothers, but then again that wasn't being discussed was it?

Some men are mommies boys, others are more responsible and independant, but every woman knows what type her future husband is before marrying him, in most cases. As for the image depicted of succesful women in those films, doesn't really matter, waxaan aamin sanahay in eey naagaha cadaanka lee matalaayaan, so we nomad sisters are safe ;)

  17. Here is an article i found online abt the origins of sugaanta, the language used is very difficult but the tale is intresting. here are two segments...

    ------

Marka laga hadlayo sugaan wuxuu yeelanayaa macno labo ah kaas oo ku tusinaya in sugaantu aysan ahayn oo qura murti, maanso, hees, gabay iyo geeraar midkoodna, soomaalidii hore waxay ahaan jirtay bulsho reer guuraa ah oo xoolo dhaqataa waxay noloshoodu ku ekayd kaynta ama miyi ku nool, hadaba marka meel laga guurahayo waxaa la diri jiray sahan baad iyo biyo doon ah si xooluhu nabaad u helaan, ninka ku socdaalay dhulka ee soo sahansha marka uu soo helo meel geediga reeraha lagu furi karo oo barwaaqo ah ayuu oran jiray waxaan helay meel suugaan leh taasi waxay ku tusaysaa in suugaanta looyaqaanay meel doog iyo cagaar badan oo barwaaqo leh,

For the full article press here

I love the saado cali song mentioned, it has such deep meaning. Do any of you have the lyrics?

  18. lol ppl, who would have thought valentines would invoke such emotions

Personally i blame it on chauvinist for aiding a burning fire by addin some gasoline to it icon_razz.gif

Lazy, sis i wasn't trying but jst writin my view on the whole "buy me flowers" phenomena. What it actually said relies entirely on how it was interpreted individually i gues ;)

ps: Glad to see u back in action tho, uncensored and calling it as u see it :D

  19. Nuune safe the excusses. If u want the lyrics b prepared to provide the meaning. You can't have one without the other, abadan eey kaa tahay.

Wiilo i was actually countin on you to tell us why u llove the songs u love and what their brieve history/meaning is.

  20. ^^^waxa aan la ooyaayo, ilamadu iiga gubaneeyso, ikhtiyaar nin (naag?) loo diidoo, la adoonsadaan ahay. Since we in the nationalist spirit :D

As for the, :( , the pictures that i didn't see. I have no comment on said pictures nor do i confirm ever seeing, let alone knowing the excistence of any pictures. I wouldn't even know we were on abt pics, until some of u mentioned it :D Now having said that. Femme, bless u for the link ;)

  21. In all honesty i hadn't realised that the evil V was upon us again until i read some nomads mention it and saw this thread. Remembering dates was never my thing....

Classique, ppl never want to listen when they r being told that they arent acting as they should, maybe cos they often know it themselves but have pushed it so far down their concience that they hate any reminder of their wrong doings. But that is just human nature, isnt it?

As for Valentines day, if two individuals are in love they don't need a specific day to honour that love, they will do it constantly with kind gestures and honest actions, not materials.

I could never understand ppl who would buy one another flowers. If the person you love shows it by giving you something beautiful that will die within days, what does that say about your relationship? Talk about bad omens.

I'm going a bit off topic, so forgive me C :D

  22. Wiilo nasab in aad tahay waad na tustayee bal translation neh ku soo dar aan kuu duceeynee. Walle i am jealous, i love the songs but can in no way write the lyrics of any somali song. Well done to those who do.

But instead of lyrics, why not concentrate on the meanings of the song? That way it will have a more general appeal methinks.
