So much has been uttered about the future of Somaliland's pursuit for recognition. One thing is clear to everyone who has had first contact with the bulk of propaganda that the unreliable sources of media daily ooze to reaffirm and reinforce their ideologies. 14 years have passed and yet we haven't heard of suggestions or hint of approval for recognition except few missionaries who went to Hargeisa and returned with the injection of biased treatment to the susceptibility of their eyes to questionable, objectionable persuasive of oppression. The administration in Hargeisa only works in two cities, thus lacking the power to exert control and rule on most parts of former British protectorate. Ask yourself, why the Somali currency still works in Burco and vicinities, why the locals of Burco use the port of Boosaso knowing their allegiance to their future self-determination is shattered. As a citizen, there are duties that you should be obliged to observe and provide for its demands. There is total mental collapse in place that have driven most people into hysteria of wanting recognition when there is clear evidence that oppression and corruption is breeding in an unprecedented level right now.
  2. I admire this phase of Somali history when the Siyad Barre regime was in its nascent state. This opposition to the regime was a milestone for the ensuing rest of Somali history ------------------------------------------------- Somalia Challenges to the Regime The SRC announced on two occasions that it had discovered plotters in the act of initiating coup attempts. Both instances involved SRC members. In April 1970, Qoorsheel, the first vice president, was arrested and charged with treason. Qoorsheel represented the more conservative police and army elements and thus opposed the socialist orientation of the majority of SRC members. He was convicted of treason in a trial before the National Security Court and sentenced to a prison term. In May 1971, the second vice president, Major General Mahammad Ainanche, and a fellow SRC member, Soviet-trained Lieutenant Colonel Salah Gaveire Kedie, who had served as head of the Ministry of Defense and later as secretary of state for communications, were arrested along with several other army officers for plotting Siad Barre's assassination. The conspirators, who had sought the support of clans that had lost influence in the 1969 overthrow of the democratic regime, appeared to have been motivated by personal rivalries rather than by ideology. Accused of conspiring to assassinate the president, the two key figures in the plot and another army officer were executed after a lengthy trial. By 1974 the SRC felt sufficiently secure to release Qoorsheel and most of the leaders of the democratic regime who had been detained since the 1969 coup. Igaal and four other former ministers were excepted from the amnesty, however, and were sentenced to long prison terms. Igaal received thirty years for embezzlement and conspiracy against the state.
  3. The question is how will the president go back to Mogadisho and be safe in his office. I doubt the president will have the courage to do that unless he receives support from clans in Mogadisho.
  4. I like the girl on the Beach lol. Reminds me of my city. The other pictures, thanks, so beautiful. Where are those pictures, can you name a place or name for this place.

  6. Ameenah, thanks that was great compliment. For others, i hope our glorious past achievement will once raise our consciousness to learn it and teach our children.
  7. Mogadisho was a graet city and the people that built Mogadisho left it long time ago. However, the amazing thing about this city and its people is that it never loses hope to be rebuilt and revived. But there is no present indication about people pouring into city as it was once in the early 1990s, esp people from countryside. It has taken reverse trend and many people find another route to seek better life by abandoning what once was a great city.
  8. Thanks Yasmine for your explanation. You raised good point. Zaylici, this topic is for the abortive adoption of Usmaniya script. I have heard and read of all these fairly known sheikhs' works except Sheikh Yusuf who had invented nothing but simplistic version of learning Arabic Alphabet in Somali. His invention though well appreciated is not the same calibre with Usmaniya.
  9. Yasmin, Explain why do you object to the effect that colonial rulers had on the adoption of the script? I completely agree with Mutakalim and Nationalist. Both arguments are valid. If you have different one, feel free to put forward.

  12. Congratulations to our somali girls for picking up their place in society. I have come to realize majority of current young Uni students are predominantly female. From every aspect, they tend to create a symbolic change that is based on long term favorable image of women in our community. Keep up the good work
  13. At this moment we cannot portend bad news for the leader of Palestine. The recent news based on objectivity we have from Arafat is that he is in a coma and is now in the intensive care unit. I can't imagine the number of spurious leaders vying for his replacement. But why predict death for a sick man.May Allah recuperate him. Amin
  14. can you provide the link? FACT: WHY do you guys drool for the slightest attention of Europeans? Why do you hold their say with such a high regard? You probably are under the transition of marginality and might possibly be scapegoat from both Somalia and them. Be cautious fellas, i am so worried of your potential steps.

  17. After reading this account from Mexican student in one of state universities, he has this to say about his preferential treatment of lighter color. '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' Castellanos Lopez Jose Alejandro (Alex) Sociology 355 T-Th Class 9:30 to 10:45 Esbenshade Jill Assignment #1 Predigest in Today’s Society The question is if I consider myself white or am treated as white by others— I have personally experienced “white privileged†in my everyday life? And the answer is yes and no in a way. I was born in Tijuana Mexico but I have always been able to cross to the U.S., and in the spring of 1992 I emigrated to the U.S. and I’ve been here ever since. Even though I’m Mexican compared to the rest of the population I am light skin, I fall under the 10 to 15% of the population that is lighter. So I’ve experienced this preferential treatment first hand on both sides of the border. For example I always have had good treatment in Tijuana restaurants and I never had any problems. Also I think it helps with the ladies' experience. I had Mexican female friends in the past say they wouldn’t date somebody of darker skin, but of course they were light skin. I think that there is a lot of predigest within the Mexican people against other’s just because they are darker. I personally have nothing against the color of the skin, but I do have a preference for lighter skin women it is just a preference nothing more. I dated women of all colors and different races. In the Mexican culture even darker skin women tend to prefer men of lighter color, I don’t know why but I think unconsciously they know that there children are going to have it easier in life in general. For some reason it is how the Mexican society has worked for along time. I think that it may come from the Colonial era when Porfirio Diaz was in power. It is also seen in today’s commercials were most of the models are light skin “Gueras†that is women blonds in Spanish. That just what sells and advertisers and companies know it that is just what people area appealed to. Even most Mexican politicians are light skin, I’m guessing because there is a lot of predigest against darker people in the higher social classes of the rich and wealthy. That is just the consensus of the “socialsâ€. Also since my English is pretty good sometimes people confuse me with been white and I do feel and see the difference, on both sides of the border. I remember my mother telling me that when I was born my grandma that I came out so light. In conclusion in my society there’s always been predigest, and everybody wants “un guerito o guerita†that is a blond little boy or girl. And people always get complemented when they have one, and especially with light color eyes. Psychologically I think that it could be because there aren’t a lot of them, and people always want to be unique stand out in the crowd in a good way although. And most Mexican men want a “guera†they prefer them.
  18. Since the Electoral was established and enshrined in the Constitution of U.S, four times direct vote of presidential candidate was overturned by unfair and biased decision of electoral candidates. There is no statute that requires candidates of electoral to cast their votes in favor of the outcome of the popular votes. They can simply ignore based on the assumption that citizens are uninformed about the merit of their elected candidate, thereby putting the nation at risk of pitiable quality position of leadership. Most critics called for the abolition of the outdated system as being incompatible with modernity. At least more than 700 times of futile reform took place after the Congress received unprecedented public outcries, questioning the equity of the system and whether it preserves the status of minority. _______________________________________________________________________ In 1961, Senator Mike Mansfield said: "The federal system is not strengthened through an antiquated device [the Electoral College] which has not worked as it was intended to work when it was included in the Constitution and which, if anything, has become a divisive force in the federal system by pitting groups of states against groups of states. As I see the federal system in contemporary practice, the House of Representatives is the key to the protection of district interests as district interests, just as the Senate is the key to the protection of state interests as state interests. Those instrumentalities, and particularly the Senate, are the principal constitutional safeguards of the federal system, but the Presidency has evolved, out of necessity, into the principal political office . . . for safeguarding the interests of all the people in all the states. And since such is the case, in my opinion, the presidency should be subject to the direct and equal control of all the people." History At the birth of our nation the constitutional convention considered several methods for choosing president. A direct vote of the people was considered, but was rejected as the Framers of the Constitution feared that citizens would not have sufficient information regarding candidates outside their state or region. The electoral college, it was hoped, would allow for "informed individuals" to choose the President based on merit and not politics. Of course, this was hundreds of years before the internet and free flowing information. In the days of the constitutional convention, there was no radio or telephone - "high speed" communication was horseback mail delivery. "Mass media" was the local one page newspaper. Ultimately, the electoral college system engendered the two party system that we know today. And over the years there have been numerous anomalies including several cases where presidents were elected even though they received a minority of votes.
  19. I think the link you provided is helpful and can answer all of your questions. As already said whoever wins the popular vote in each states win all the electoral vote from every state because the most populated states such as California and New York are both Democrats, so to prevent injustice and underrepresentation from smaller states with less population, electoral votes is there for them and can have an effect on the overall result of the election. For example, Kerry didn't go to Texas and New Mexico the same for Bush. He didn't canvass California and New York. These are pure Republican and Democrat states respectively. Therefore, whoever wins the battle states wins the presidency most of the time. The battle states are MN, Michigan, Florida, Georgia, and so on, mostly midwest and south.
  20. Somaliland should stop their outright aggression against people's territory. You can not say i am securing borders in other words i am being attacked. It is two contradicting claims. Please stop crying Puntland army has full control over Sool and Cayn region with Dervish forces stationed in Buhoodle, WidhWish and Yagoori.
  21. Thanks Mutakalim for your clarification. You are truly well-educated brother we turn to for important subjects.
  22. Antonia Fraser O duty Why hast thou not the visage of a sweetie or a cutie ... ? Why art thou so different from Venus? And why do thou and I have so few interests in common between us? These sentiments on the subject of duty, so brilliantly expressed by Ogden Nash, may well be yours, dear Unknown, when I, a national of another country, urge you to do your duty and vote in your coming presidential election. In fact, of course, we have all too many interests in common. When you vote - and please do vote by the way, even if you disagree with everything I am about to say - that vote will have as much effect on my future and the much longer future of my children and grandchildren, as it will on your own. For this is a crucial election, the most crucial, I believe, of my lifetime (and I first voted in 1955!). As the bumper stickers put it, "Re-defeat Bush". But, this time, do it so overwhelmingly that neither his brother's friends in Florida nor his father's friends on the Supreme Court will be able to rig the count. Decent Americans - there are absolutely more intelligent, educated, civilised, cultivated, compassionate people in America than in any other country in the western world - please show your electoral muscle this time around. We in the rest of the world, who sadly cannot vote in the one election that really affects our future, are depending on you. Please don't let us down. · Richard Dawkins is professor of the public understanding of science at Oxford University. More letters to Clark County will be appearing in G2 over the next fortnight. This is very true. The undecided voters are ruining any hopeful result of the elections. Worrisome enough, people who care less of their future or the political situation of their domestic and foreign issues.
  23. Consider this: stay out of American electoral politics. Unless you would like a company of US Navy Seals - Republican to a man - to descend upon the offices of the Guardian, bag the lot of you, and transport you to Guantanamo Bay, where you can share quarters with some lonely Taliban shepherd boys. This is very funny. I mostly concur with this quote. Why do the Europeans interest much the U.S elections. In fact, not a single medium in U.S covers the British elections or any other Euro country. lol On the other hand, here is link you can read the British responses to the U.S elections. http://www.guardian.co.uk/uselections2004/story/0,13918,1326066,00.html

Originally posted by Farxan: Osmaniya is our own script, but with the logistics availabe, it might have been difficult to teach and scholars at that time chose the latin script, when the current latin script was introduced in somalia in early 70s, the literacy rate rose very quickly in a short time,,,and also u can see how somalis may use of the internet these days..so i believe abondaning Osmaniya script was the right choise. I believe most of our scholars or professors who thought the major institutions of education like Lafoole were product of 1960s before we have adopted the latin script and because of that we had high quality of literacy. Thanks for Everson for designing Osmaniya scrip fonts and keyboard orthography I designed an Osmanya font very quickly to prepare the script proposal. That's why the fonts in the proposal documents are -- in my own opinion -- very rough and crude. Recently I began to "clean up" my fonts, to give to them sharp and typographically professional shapes. I expect that some time next year I will release them to the general public. I can say one thing -- if I were able to get hold of an original printed source it would be easier to improve the font, because an original document would be superior to the photocopy which I have at present.
