  1. Ayaan Hirsi made the list. She aint no intelectual but a fraud who jumped on the Islamaphobic bandwagon in the west to make some denaro. I have seen another list where Irshad manji, the canadian-paki, diminutive is on the top and Wafa sultan. The selection of Muslim bashing opportunists makes you think of if there is an ulterior motive behind all of this.

But I must admit the list is impressive, I see some of my favorite intellectual luminaries as Amartya Sen whom I studied on my political-economy classes, umberto ecco, and Noam Chomsky which makes you question why are his contemporaries like David Zinn, Vidal Gore and Arundathi Roy are not in the list? Could be their constant criticism of the imperial west is not appreciated by the editors of the FP.

  2. It seems like yesterday our proud nation was standing up for the rights of the Somali people in the ******. Today leaders in the autonomous regions of Somaliland and Puntland are competing over how many Somali nationals they can hand over to Ethiopia. Where we once stood side by side to help free oppressed Africans, we now watch hopelessly as our country is occupied. Where we once said "Aqoon la'aan waa iftiin la aan", we now hear the words "Qabiil la'aan wa magac la aan."

My fellow country men pride is the mask tribalism wears to conceal its true face, anarchy. Only a prideful and hard headed people who have achieved a minimal amount of education would dare pursue a divisive and backward system like tribalism. And only a divided people with no sense of nationalism would continue on this course after witnessing its setbacks for the past two decades.

To this day the only person who has taken control of our nation’s destiny is Meles Zenawi. In a wicked turn of events, our dream of uniting all Somalis under one flag has become a reality. That flag is the Ethiopian flag. Today Mr. Zenawi can take sober satisfaction that he has managed, through deception and brute force, what his forefathers could never accomplish. Today every region of Greater Somalia is under his control. He may control through political means as is the case in Djibouti, Somaliland and Puntland or straight out military conquest as in southern Somali and the ******. This should truly bring shame to anyone who calls themselves Somali, for this has happened under our watch.

Every generation is defined by what it doest to affect the lives of the next. Two generations ago, a privileged few saw the tears, sweat and dreams that were hundreds of years in the making. The Creation of Somalia as a nation. The generation that came after decided to sleep on the wheel. Actually they ran half way around the world to live off food stamp and hold miniscule jobs that required little to no education. Those who couldn’t run from their problems opted to stay and kill each other, because god forbid if they don’t share the same grandpa. This generation faces the hurdles of many challenges and obstacles. From unseating bitter old men from the halls of power to rebuilding a war tattered nation that has little infrastructure. This generation does not intend to let their nation and people flounder in the backwash of this new century like the last. This is a challenge we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone and one we intend to overcome inshallah.

  3. Cara Mia ...come sei carissima! you are so dear coming to my defense! You are very generous for doing it even though I didn't need it. For nephthys, I thought S/he (sorry not yet sure of your gender and remember I am new to this forum and don't know everyone's whatever) was kind sophisticated but I am proven wrong.

Hayam, u got it sis! very intelligent conclusion there! well said and well argued ...same goes to Faarax-Brown!

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I see beautiful Somali people and that is what counts. As if being Somali is ethnic nor not that is another case. I thought we Somalis are of the black race from ancient Egypt and that genetic genealogy and the DNA genome project placed us in the same group as Bantus and other East African people.

but whatever it is, the ladies in that picture are beautiful Somalis who are proud of being Somalis and no one can take that Somali-ness from them in real world or in the cyber one.

  4. Some cheerleaders of the traitor warlord yeey are desperately trying to create misleading and futile propaganda that has no base. Time will tell what they will end up. Yeey's days are numbered, meles days are numbered, qabiil days are numbered, warlords are obsolete, Bush is done...the world is changing and our dignity will be restored and we will still have decency and objectivity.

  5. Ceyroow junior I salute you! half of my family live in Hargeisa now. They choose to live inside Somalia and with somalis instead of ruuning to Kenya. The Somali and Islamic bond is stronger. The hypocrites who are clannish cheerleaders of his sickness warlord Yeey will go down in history as worst Somalis ever - they will be branded as GUN not as GOB!make my word, filthy tigreans will be defeated and that will be the end of the stooges. Somaliland was destroyed in 1988 by Morgan who is now, after 20 years is with Yeey. ICU gave him the benefit of doubt when he told them he repented and was seeking salvation and forgiveness.

Somalia will be one nation. Somaliland seccession is a factual cause but it could also be a bargaining tool that could be dealt around the table of negotiations. I don't think they will separate but self-rule, autonomy and power-sharing and revisiting the union pact is legit.

as for the traitors, we will hunt them when we kick ethios out.

  6. Xaqiraadu xitaa waxeey ka socotaa even in the cyber world. Zack, the people in the picture are Somalis (Somali Bantu). Not all Somalis are faradheer and jileec. And to let you know, I grwew up with Somali Bantus. My neighbors were all Reer Shabeelle who came to Mogadishu originally from Qallaafe, now under Ethiopian Occupation. Among them was my first English teacher, the first Somali Bio-chemist who was the head of ASPIMA, Somali pharmaceuticals, a Musician, a famous architect that was known all over Xamar as the Mooto daba ku xidigle who later because of his business entrepreneurial spirit had the biggest villa and best SUVs in the Xaafad.

These Somalis in the picture live in Salt Lake City, in Utah. I know and met some of them ...so please suubso afkaaga - Somaali ineey is xaqirto oo laan gaab iyo laan dheer isku disho ayaa na keentay inta ..but we can't afford that now.

AGAIN, the beautiful ladies and children in the pic are 100% Somalis and proud of their Somali-ness. you can't take that away from them. They represent Somalia each year, specially the Somali week which coincides the celebration of our independence days of 26 June (Somaliland), 27 June (Djibouti) and July 1st ( Somalia Republic).

What do you do to represent Somalia? Sit in coffee place and talk about Qabiil, nonesense and pure ignorance?

  7. Is qor bilaa liis ( in games ) = it is the Somalized English version of score please like when your team like Raptors are missing every basket.

is qor biliis - score her/the chick ..,please ( in sexual relationships) = don't be liis ( reversed female genitalia in Somali) blocker - macalimadda ku soco or let us be dogs and score!

iskor bariis - is a new dish at Banaadir Restaurant - like bariis is kor kor saaran -- or bariis skinnies eat for is koris - to gain weight and body mass! it has a lot of fats and carbs - that will knock you out and make u fall asleep like african badar ka dhargay!

    That was a joke!

But it could be applied to all of these unvited wedding crashers that show up in every wedding as it is a party for the whole city-

For real though - it is isku dhadhajis meel aan lagaa rabin and u naagnaageeys qof aan ku rabin iyo isku kakab kuwo aan ku rabin

Is Qor Bilaa liis = Koolo!

  10. they should avoid being on the spotlight. Half of America is islamaphobic. There are those, specially in the south who wouldn't vote for Obama if they see any Muslims around him. What Obama like to do is attract those who aren't comfortable with him as the so-called working white men and catholics. In the podium should be nuns and rednecks not hijab-wearing muslim sisters. He is an American politician who has to deal with FOX, right-wing groups and pro-Israeli extremists. You can't win an election in America if you don't kowtow to some influential and vocal groups. Muslims are not vocal, don't have any influence and don't control any media outlet, so keeping them aside is convenient and practical.

piccolo piccolo piccolo amore mio. small small small love of mine ( my small love)

Piccolo piccolo piccolo amore - . . .small small small love

Dolce come il suono della pioggia sopra i tetti

Sweet like the sound of the rain on the roofs

bello come quando torno a casa e tu mi aspetti

beautiful as wehn I return to home (come back home) and you are waiting for me

strano e colorato come un film americano io ti amo.

Strange and colored like an american film and I love you

Forte come il gusto della grappa contadina

strong as the taste of the farmer's grape

bianco come il trenta di dicembre - white as the thrity's of december -

la mattina sotto questo cielo preso da una cartolina .

the morning under this sky taken from a postcard.

siamo soli - we are alone

    Piccolo piccolo piccolo amore - . ..

    Piccolo piccolo piccolo amore - . . .

    Grande amore detto all'ultimo gettone

great love said up to the last token

vero come il caldo di un abbracio alla stazione

true as a warm hug at the (train/bus) station.

bello como quando posso stringerti la mano

beautiful like when I can hold your hand

io ti amo. = and I love you

Prepotente come il bacio che ci ha fatto innamorare

arrogant as the kiss that made us fall in love

diffidente come un gatto nel lasciarsi accarezzare

distrusting like a cat that is let go gently

c'e una cosa di piu di tutte che non so dimenticare

there is one thing above all that I can't forget

io ti amo. = i love you

Piccolo piccolo piccolo amore - ...

Invitante come l'aria di una notte in piena estate

welcoming like nightly breeze in the midsummer

delicato come il suono delle vecchie serenate

delicate like the sound of old night songs (a

serenade or sometimes serenata even in english.

questa sera sotto un cielo con le stelle appiccicate siamo soli.

This night under sky glued with stars - we are alone

    Piccolo piccolo piccolo amore - . . .

    Piccolo piccolo piccolo amore -

  14. MMA - no! these ladies (may ALLAH protect and bless them) you mentioned are giants and upfront in the struggle for peace and sanity in Somalia. My eedo is friends with them and works with them in terms of organization and fund-raising for the less fortunate victims of the senseless bloody wars in Xamar.

Horn - walaahi there are many amazing and interesting people I know that could be profiled in movies, novels, plays and so on. And I am sure these movies and novels would be hit and best-sellers. We need Somali writers and film-makers so bad! Our history, lives, being, existence, sufferings, pains, trials, struggles, survivals, resiliences, eccentricities, primitivism, sophistication, boldness, madness, passion, success, adaptations, dramas, comedies must be recorded and told to the whole wide world! libraries and studios could be filled with all the characters I met, came across or know! just the time, circumstances and tools (funding) needed is limiting me! The know-how is easily acquirable! Plus, we somalis are not yet ready for being profiled. I once tried to record in video format a very interesting Somali gathering and I met resistance. It took me more than 15 minutes to explain to them how important it was to film it but to no avail! total rejection! So maybe the next generation! or maybe I will go back to Somalia one day ( maybe after all the guns are destroyed) and start writing and making documentaries that are entertaining and enlightening!
