xiinfaniin;874788 wrote: ^^Agreed. When you really look at it Somalia is not a poor country by design; fishery, livestock, and agriculture, not to mention potential of recoverable metals, oil and gas plus a relatively small population with a long history of trade and entrepreneurial tradition --makes Somalia a rich country indeed. So good days are ahead of us (don't mind NGONGE, he is a mere contrarian ) Yep, see here why even the most hardcore deniers of Somalia's riches are found M.I.A when overwhelmed by sources. -

Let's be real, I knew this topic was going to fail on SOL because Somali men are inheritantly 'fatalistic'. If a random dude were to disrespect me in a such a manner at an aroos, chairs, bricks, bottles, teeth etc would be flying regardless of size, strength or numbers. This meme only works with young western kids who love life more than traditional honour.

BTW, did you guys notice all of the delegates kept saying in the presence of Abdiweli: Congratulations to the new President and new Prime-minister. Do they know something all these SOL moles in villa-Somalia don't? I guess another 4 years then.

Has the President of Somalia declared war on Puntland ?
Chimera replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
General Duke;874280 wrote: Chimera, valid points indeed. The Federal Republic is more important than any individual. Exactly, that was the gist of my post. Even if a non-Puntlander is chosen as PM, there will still be tons of Puntlanders part of the government, and the latter will collapse as a legitimate entity if it resorts to nepotism and intentional neglect. Neither the President or the PM are Emperors and Kings, they are statesmen serving the people of Somalia. We must respect their title and office but not fear them. Somalia failed because we equated the high offices with individuals and destroyed it in a fit of anger and chaos. This was fatalistic and pure national suicide. I do not think President Hassan is the messiah, nor do I think Somalia will be picture-perfect in a single term, but we will get there, and come 2016 we will be in a much better situation, insha'allah. -
Japan has been equipping and paying the salaries of 5000 Somali Policemen, very interesting trivia I wasn't aware of.

Norway was funny, I hope President Hassan takes his challenge and raises the percentage of women participants in the new government. In Norway women make up 50% of the government, and its one of the most advanced countries in the world. What is that we fear?

Notice how Turkey is the only country talking about the big elephant in the room; the reconstruction of the Somali military. The Somali Chief of Staff was in Ankara this week to discuss training Somali soldiers, and the Turks mentioned a new fund for the reconstruction of the Somali Security Forces. This is good news.

Has the President of Somalia declared war on Puntland ?

General Duke;874253 wrote: Chimera, you are a good man, if you was President I would not even worry about Somalia. However what we have is an embryonic state. If his first action is simply to ignore the State of Puntland its many achievements and its contributions to Somalia then there is no choice but to ignore him. Heck if it was not for Puntland and Abdiweli, Xsaan sHiekh Mohamoud would still be an unknown individual. Puntland and its people remember the last time we took a government and its leaders at face value. Heck it won’t happen again. First of all, I think this news is nonsense, just as the announcement of Farmaajo being PM was yesterday. The new president is not a dumb illiterate man, and I think people underestimate the fact that we finally have someone good in the driving seat. He knows the importance of Puntland, just as he knows the importance of Somaliland, he won't alienate these regions as the highest sovereign in the country, but if he were to select someone not from those regions, I'm 100% sure its not based on their lineage otherwise he would have replaced Abdiweli the first day in office, instead he's currently meeting world-leaders as the highest representative of our country overseas. Personally, I think none of the regions should allow their leaders to hi-jack legitimate grievances based on a office-position whose job is to represent the whole country not a single clan, city, regional state, etc but the whole republic. This is a new competent government, one that is accountable and one that has the eyes of the world fixed on its way of governance. The FGS can't mess up the way the TFG did multiple times in the past, and no region in this age of information can be neglected without the whole Somali world knowing it. The fresh blood in the FGS want to leave behind a positive legacy and possibly be re-elected in four years time in a nationwide elections. To ignore 1/3 of your country is political suicide, however when the President elects a person for PM based on his merit, its not a good reason for rebellion or cutting off all ties. We have to focus on progress brother, politics has always been our weakness that has held us back from reaching our potential, while our neighbours are building like crazy. How can we still be the only country in East Africa to have 3 Panamax ports after twenty years of war? How can we still have the largest runways in East Africa after twenty years of war? How is it that we rank in the top 10 in African telecommunications after twenty years of war? How is that our paved road-network is still half the size of that of Ethiopia despite the latter having spend $50 billion in the last twenty years and we $0? Imagine if we never allowed our country to fall, how far ahead of the game would we be today? Don't play the ignore-game, it will get us nowhere, twenty years was enough. Instead DEMAND new roads, port-expansions, dams, electrification, hospitals and schools. Shame the government if it doesn't respond, shame it in all the halls of the world, but don't untangle the superstructure that is the republic, its what got us into this mess in the first place, and I desperately want us to get out of it. If that means swallowing an indirect 'snub' in the PM selection then so be it, but as long as the funds keep flowing in there will be progress. -

Has the President of Somalia declared war on Puntland ?
Chimera replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
Duke, even if the new PM is not from Puntland, he and the government are still obligated to serve that constituent, and that means access to Federal funds for new roads, schools, hospitals, port-expansions, proportionate share of FDI etc on a scale that the region hasn't enjoyed since collapse of the last central government . Only when Puntland is ignored in all these sectors can we deduce that the President of the FRS has declared war on one of its constituents and that would be a legitimate cause for anger, but this PM ''must be reer-hebel'' bs that is polluting this forum is backwards. He will be the Prime-minister of Somalia, he has to serve the ten million men, women and children living in hundreds of hamlets, villages, towns, and cities stretching from Zayla to Ras Kamboni! -
Blackflash;874196 wrote: The majority of Somalis throughtout history have resided in the hinterland and were pastoralists like the Dinkas. The larger states and sultanates didn't start developing until the middle of the millenium. That said, I do think the existence of these city states prevented the enslavement of nomads to some extent. The City-states in Somalia date back to the first millenium B.C (and through serious archaelogy will date back even further) and I think you misunderstood my point. Take the Ancient Greeks and Phoenicians, the majority of their people also resided in the hinterland as peasants, but it was the city-states at their coasts who through their trade made themselves familiar with the Old world and maintained armies and fortifications that defended the entire region. In ancient Somalia our ancestors did trade with all the empires and kingdoms of the day, and we were familiar to everyone, under different names, be it Puntites, Macrobians, Oponeans, etc and there are historic records of standing armies, body armour and other military hardware. The ancestors of the Arabs were actually robust trading partners of ours, its the major reason why Islam came to us via trade instead of warfare. There is historic literature confirming Somalis were already slave-traders since the 1st century AD, at least 6 centuries before the rise of Islam.
