  2. Prime Minister Nur Hassan Hussein expressed regret for Somalis forced to flee the violence but said his interim government and its Ethiopian allies had the right to self-defence. Ethiopia has no right for self-defence. they came hudreds of miles to cause this distruction and for the prime minister who many thought as a peace loving man to proclaim self defense for ethiopia is just showing the true colors of the man.

Ethiopia can't say it is a somali expansitionst endeavour; and the rest of the somali's don't see the clan they so-boviously are freaked with here. Or any other name! i think the one's that are freaked out of a regions name while feeling perfectly well with ethiopia would also freak out of som-gadenia or any other name for that matter. their contention is not with a name but the outsourcing of their jobs as Henchmen's of an occupation.
  4. Originally posted by Abu-Salman: Paranoid as we tend to be, it would help if ONLF insisted on its multiclanic vision as well as their willingness to let all clans have their say equally as Somalis have long been accustomed to corrupt, secular politicians, riddled with inferiority complexes vis-a-vis foreign cultures, values and priorities, resulting in genocidal legacies in addition to environmental disasters. Given our context, the only available framework to do so is obviously through a close collaboration with our Islamic Ulamas and leaders, the only coherent as well as credible alternative against all form of neo-colonialism, with unshakable moral foundations. In practical terms, every concerned Galbeed Somali, just like any other Muslim, should never lose an opportunity to denounce and expose the acculturation scheme perpetrated by agnostic, atheist, Christian or secular "Somalis" through their criminal manipulation of clanishness, out of awe for their Western questionable "models" coupled with their addiction for short-term gains... I couldn't say it better my brother. But lets look at was said at the beginning of this conversation. There are those who assume that onlf by virtue of its name is clannish movement disregarding its manifesto, its makeup, and its appeal to the masses. I have tried to explain why the somaligalbeed name failed and why the present movement choused the name it did, but there always be some in every community that cannot be pleased. Their hell bent on disenfranchising the community for there selfish gains. By exploiting clan lines ( which is Ethiopia most successful scheme thus far), and portraying a monster out of those who fight for the oppressed. I agree with you that onlf should insist on its multiclanic approach but we should stand up against and denounce the debodhilif’s ruse to breach and weaken our solidarity.
  5. inally posted by Koora-Tuunshe: O stands for? How about Somali National Liberation Front. http://www.awdalnews.com/wmview.php?ArtID=9612 Sorry to have all of you back at the beginning but its necessary for most of you to understand this struggle. This struggle is not between the alienation of one tribe or another but the liberation of all the people that reside in that region. Now their have been many approaches towards this endeavor by previous organizations before the present one and they have all failed to achieve freedom. There were many reasons why the failed but May piece here is not to discuss all of them but to focus on a particular one; Mainly the naming of the region. There have been couple of names for the region but we will focus on a particular one and why it failed. Somaligalbeed was the name the struggle took after much deliberation at the yaqbidheweyne conference near balidogle in January 1976 at the behest of the Somali government. The main organs of the organization were selected under the close eye of the Somali government. The wslf went to work mobilizing grass root support while the Somali government contributed to the training and equipping of the new organization. In the following months the wslf confronted the Ethiopians in many battles and skirmish and to their credited gained many victories over the Ethiopians which in turn boosted their standing and appeal to the people of the region. Overall the wslf was superb in their battlefield engagement with the Ethiopians; But their troubles aroused from their appeal at the world stage and there dependence on the Somali government. The diplomatic side of this struggle was mostly spearheaded by the Somali government. It worked tirelessly to garner support for the liberation movement. In small time frame the wslf had offices in most Arab capitals and many African countries. But it was mostly overshadowed by the Somali government. Add that to the constant and tireless work by the Ethiopians to show this as a pet project by the Somali government and it was very apparent that we weren’t gaining much ground on the diplomacy. On the other hand, the Somali government first and for most was responsible for the people of territories that gained independence and their needs and when the situation got precarious they had to restrained there support from the wslf. This meant that the wslf was mostly paralyzed and their functions compromised. This was a big setback for people who were yearning for an eminent independence and big frustration for the many of the gallant liberationist fighters and it brought the whole struggle to a halt. Eroding whatever battle victories the wslf achieved. With that in mind the people of this region choused to support an organization that existed but mainly dysfunctional do to its early age and suppression by the Somali government and the wslf, namely the olf nasrullah. Which latter transformed itself to the ONLF. Its pretty obvious why this people choused to be in control of their destiny. They could no longer depend on the larger Somali family to rescue them from the abyss of oppressions. Now here is where the disconnect is between the Somali masses of the two independent territories and the colonized ****** region and where many misunderstanding happens here in sol. The people of the ****** region expect there struggle to be continuous till they gain independence and the Somali independent territories want to rebuild there country and pause hostilities with Ethiopia. Basically we have different priorities and with that brings with it advantages and disadvantages. If we are to adapt this name Somaligalbeed then obviously we would be limited in our diplomatic capacity but we may garner much needed support from the larger Somali family( which is not guaranteed because they will have to tend to there needs and struggles) and ofcourse Ethiopia will get a lot of support from western countries as victim of Somali assault. This is precisely what happened in the 1970s and 1980s. or we can come up with our own name which may be understandable to the western countries and count on the Somalis to understand that hey we still need your help but please understand our situation. And this is where many people here in sol which is typical of Somalis at large, get lost.
