  1. i can't believe i actually agree with you for once Carafaat ;)

Somalia you can't expect corporate heads to negotiate with the indeginous people can you!!! Heads of state should represent the local community who then borker these deals on THEIR BEHALF.

I agree that local support is key but with the targets being so close to SL security would be too expensive to protect the millions of dollars worth of equipment and the specialized work force. :(

burnnotice, any news on existing exploration drilling soon?

All quiet Mooge, Nugaal targets are too close to disputed areas so i don't see drilling occuring there until all parties are in agreement if ever ie PL, SL to agree to share profits so that Genel/Horn can drill.

As for Dharoor, having spent over $50million in the 2 previous drills the JV's have satisfied the PSA so i believe siesmics won't occur until after the PL elections in Jan 2014.

It's a massive game of chess. The next 6 months will be most interesting ;)

  3. Soma Oil & Gas Exploration Limited announces that it has signed an agreement with the Government of the Federal Republic of Somalia to assist in the development of the country’s hydrocarbons sector. This represents the first agreement in Somalia’s oil and gas industry since the election of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and the appointment of an internationally recognized Government in 2012 following decades of civil war.

Under the terms of the agreement, Soma Oil & Gas will conduct seismic surveying in Somalia’s territorial waters in areas agreed with the Government and in certain limited onshore areas. The Company will also collate and reprocess historic seismic data using modern techniques, and prepare an evaluation of Somalia’s petroleum potential. Soma Oil & Gas will create a data room for the Somali Government, into which all available data will be placed.

The survey that Soma Oil & Gas conducts will give it the right to nominate and obtain exploration and drilling rights under Production Sharing Agreements for prospective areas.

Prior to 1991 a number of International Oil Companies were granted licences in the country, which, according to oil industry experts has some of the largest prospective resources within East Africa, an area of already great industry interest.

Soma Oil & Gas was founded earlier this year expressly with a view to exploring in Somalia. Chief Executive, Robert Sheppard, a former senior executive of BP, Amoco and Sidanco, with over 40 years’ experience in the industry, joined the Company in May. Lord Howard of Lympne, former British Home Secretary and Leader of the Conservative Party, is the Company’s Chairman.

Robert Sheppard, CEO of Soma Oil & Gas, said:

“We formed Soma Oil & Gas having identified an opportunity to conduct exploration in Somalia as it emerges from a lengthy period of civil conflict. Despite large recent discoveries in East Africa, Somalia remains a significantly underexplored region. We believe that this agreement to assist the Government and the work that is due to be carried out over the next 12-18 months will provide significant momentum for the oil and gas sector in Somalia.”

Lord Howard of Lympne, Chairman of Soma Oil & Gas, said:

“This agreement reflects the close collaboration between the UK and Somalia and it is our intention to assist Somalia to develop an active hydrocarbons sector that will attract significant foreign investment to the country. We intend that Soma Oil & Gas’ commitment in Somalia will boost the local economy and generate new opportunities for employment for Somali nationals.”

  4. Garowe — The president of Somalia's Puntland government Abdirahman Mohamed Farole has warned of 'consequences' in the Somaliland separatist administration's pursuit for oil exploration in Sool and Sanaag regions, Garowe Online reports.

President Farole gave the keynote address on Thursday evening at a celebratory event held at Puntland State House in Garowe marking 15 years since Puntland's statehood was founded in 1998.

The Puntland leader said that dialogue process in Istanbul between Somali Federal Government and Somaliland can succeed through consultation among "all of Somalia".

"We welcome Somaliland to rejoin Somalia, to negotiate, to agree who is wrong and who is right. But who has the authority? Somaliland is seeking international recognition, firstly from Somalis. Who can give it? We don't understand this rainbow alliance between Mogadishu and Hargeisa that skips Garowe," said President Farole, adding: "Mogadishu should not look for power it does not have and Hargeisa should not waste its time seeking recognition from Mogadishu."

President Farole said Somaliland's separatist administration should "stay within its area" until a federal and united Somalia is restored.

"Somaliland is creating conflict in the region. Somaliland cannot give land to foreign companies to explore oil when the land does not belong to Somaliland," said President Farole.

The president said that Puntland "needs peace and good neighborliness" but warned of "consequences" in Somaliland's pursuit of oil exploration in Sool and Sanaag region.

The UN Monitoring Group report released July 2013 noted concern about regional stability over oil exploration programs in northern Somalia managed by Puntland and Somaliland.

Somaliland administration gave exploration rights in parts of Sool and Sanaag to Norwegian oil company DNO and Turkish oil company Genel.

Local communities in Sool and Sanaag share kinship and political ties with Puntland, while Somaliland claims the regions based on defunct colonial-era boundaries.

Puntland and Somaliland have fought sporadic battles since 2002 over control of territory with the epicenter of the conflict at Las Anod, capital of Sool region.

I can tell you, it is bloody exciting being in the Hall and watching the proceedings in person!. Jawaari has indeed won and not just won, he won with the support of the whole house including those that voted against him.

Everyone here agrees he is the right man for the job.

For me though, the fact that only months ago we were under heavy shelling in Mogadishu and left the safety of our concrete bunkers at our own risk, to the fact that we can hold elections in SOMALIA and in particular the Capital MOgadishu is Historic. It is very emotional but so has this entire year for me. This is when I feel I can kick back and enjoy the fruits of the hard work we all put in down here. Credit where credit is

due, The Badbaado administration of Gaas truly made a difference and you have to have lived through the past 14 months here in Mogadishu to know so. I pray WE as SOMALIS keep this momentum going inshallah.

    Well said
