  5. When the Day of Resurrection comes, a man's wealth and capital will be his hasanaat (good deeds). If he had done wrong to any people, they will take from his hasanaat to the extent that he mistreated them. If he does not have any hasanaat, or if his hasanaat run out, then some of their sayi`aat (bad deeds) will be taken and added to his burden.

Bukhari narrated on the authority of Abu Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) said:

"Whoever wronged his brother with regard to his honour or any other matter, should seek his forgiveness today, before there are no longer any dinars, or dirhams; and if he has any righteous deeds, they will be taken from him, in accordance with the wrong he did; and if he has no hasanaat, some of the sayi`aat of his counterpart will be taken and added to his burden.” [bukhari: Kitaab al-Mazaalim, Baab man kaanat lahu mazlamah `inda rajul, Fath al-Baari, 5/101]

This person whose hasanaat are taken from him by the people, and then has their sayi`aat placed on his own back, is the one who is bankrupt, as the Messenger (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) called him. Muslim narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) said:

"Do you know who is the one who is bankrupt?" They said, "The bankrupt is the one who has no money and no possessions." He said, "Among my ummah, the one who is bankrupt is the one who will come on the Day of Resurrection with prayer and fasting and zakah (to his credit), but he will come having insulted this one, slandered that one, consumed the wealth of this one and shed the blood of that one, and beaten that one. So they will all be given some of his hasanaat, and when his hasanaat run out, before judgement is passed, some of their sins will be taken and cast onto him, then he will be cast into the Fire." [Muslim: 4/1998, hadith no. 2581.]

If a debtor died when he still owed money to people, they will take from his hasanaat whatever is in accordance with what he owes them. In Sunan ibn Maajah it is narrated with a saheeh isnaad that Ibn 'Umar (radhiallahu `anhu) stated: The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) said:

"Whoever dies owing a dinar or a dirham, it will be paid from his hasanaat, for then there will be no dinars or dirhams.” [saheeh al-Jaami' as-Sagheer, 5/537, hadith no. 6432.]

If people wronged one another, the score will be settled between them. If they mistreated one another equally, then there will be no score to settle. If one of them is still owed something by the other, he will take what he is entitled to.

In Sunan at-Tirmidhi it is narrated that 'Aa'ishah said: "A man came and sat in front of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam), and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I have two slaves who tell me lies, betray and disobey me, and I insult them and beat them. What is my position with regard to them?” The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) said:

'On the Day of Resurrection, their betrayal, disobedience and lying will be measured against your punishment of them. If your punishment is commensurate with their wrongs, then there will be no score to settle. If your punishment of them was less than their sins deserved, then this will count in your favour. If your punishment of them was more than their sins deserved, then the score will be settled against you.' The man turned away and started to weep. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) said to him, 'Have you not read the words of Allah?' -

“And We shall set up Balances of justice on the Day of Resurrection, then none will be dealt with unjustly in anything. And if there be the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it. And Sufficient are We to take account.” (Qur'an 21: 47).’” [Mishkaat al-Masaabeeh, 3/66, hadith no. 5561. It is also narrated in Saheeh al-Jaami`, 6/327, hadith no. 7895, where it attributed to Ahmad and Tirmidhi.]

Because zulm (oppression) is such a serious matter, it is better for those who fear that Day to give up oppression and avoid it. The Messenger (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) has told us that oppression will be darkness on the Day of Resurrection. Bukhari and Muslim narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar that the Prophet (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) said:

"Oppression (zulm) will be darkness (zulumaat) on the Day of Resurrection." [bukhari: Kitaab al-Mazaalim, Baab az-Zulm Zulumaat Yawm al-Qiyaamah, Fath al-Baari, 51100; Muslim, 4/1969, hadith no. 2579.]

Muslim narrated from Jaabir ibn 'Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) said:

"Beware of oppression (zulm), for oppression will be darkness (zulumaat) on the Day of Resurrection." [Muslim: 4/1969, hadith no. 2578.]

  7. The Pinnacle by W. S. Merwin

    Both of us understood

    what a privilege it was

to be out for a walk

    with each other

we could tell from our different

    heights that this

    kind of thing happened

    so rarely that it might

    not come round again

    for me to be allowed

    even before I

    had started school

to go out for a walk

    with Miss Giles

    who had just retired

from being a teacher all her life

    she was beautiful

    in her camel hair coat

that seemed like the autumn leaves

    our walk was her idea

we liked listening to each other

her voice was soft and sure

and we went our favorite way

the first time just in case

    it was the only time

even though it might be too far

    we went all the way

up the Palisades to the place

    we called the pinnacle

with its park at the cliff's edge

    overlooking the river

    it was already a secret

    the pinnacle

    as we were walking back

    when the time was later

    than we had realized

    and in fact no one

seemed to know where we had been

    even when she told them

no one had heard of the pinnacle

and then where did she go

  9. ^^^Marfashland was started by a bunch of rebels from the SNM. And as rebels, they must be dealt with. So, viva Awdal and its people! Viva autonomy and self-determination for the folks of Awdal!I'm confident, you guys can take on those khat-jaded goons of the tribal enclave of waqooyiga, which calls itself marfishland.

If you want autonomy from them, then simply offer each one of 'em marduuf chaad ah, in exchange for the few kalashnikov rifles in their possession. If you were to implement this strategy of non-violence, I can gurantee that you will have your autonomy in no time, without ever firing a single shot.--so best of luck to you all! :D

  12. ^^^Faahiye does not speak for anyone but himself and therefore, can never claim to know what any single province of Puntland will do in the future, especially our sagacious brothers from Sanaag. Aside from that, I agree that we must reform the parliament. This system of tribal elders electing legislatures into the parliament MUST stop. Multi-Party democracy is where the future lies, and our new President mentioned in his inaugural speech that he would implement a commitment to a multi-party system in Puntland. This is the only way we can ensure a more transparent election to take place in the future.

  13. ^^^The dashes indicate that it is NOT permanent and that it is disputed by Somalia. Through either military force or diplomatic methods(i.e going to the international court system)--I am confident that we can take back our lands occupied by Ethiopia. But first, we MUST have a peaceful and united Somalia! We MUST end our long civil strife and create a viable and inclusive federal government! They quicker we can work on bringing this about, the faster we will have our Greater Somalia.

  18. Dear President Jama,

I've been a supporter of yours since the very beginning-- early last year-- because you have shown the judgment and character necessary to become Puntland's President. Whether it's your admirable education/military background, your willingness to confront the secessionist enclave upnorth and insecurity in general, or your strong stance against the mis-management of our economy, you represent the voice of so many Puntlanders and your election proves this.

The purpose of my letter is simple so I'll keep it short. Don't go to war with the Hargeisa regime over the disputed territories! Yes, it is Riyaale's wish to cause a war, so as to distract Somalilanders from his mis-rule of their government, but what better way --to create unity and build overwhelming strength-- than to kick his influence out of Las Anod peacefully and through diplomacy have the residents of Las Anod kick him out themselves? The message would be loud and clear to all secessionists and the rest of Somalia-- "The people of Las Anod are part and parcel of Puntland and want nothing to do with Somaliland"

Plus, with the taking back of Las Anod via peaceful channels, Riyaale will have nothing else to distract people from his economic screwups upnorth and they will kick his butt out; and we may yet have, an agreeable neighbor on our northern borders.

    Sincerely,

    dhulQarnayn

  20. ^^^

Duke, I believe Mr AO is trully perplexed with this Sanaag issue. He was told by his elders that sanaag belongs to his people; but what his elders forgot to mention is that close to 2/3 of Sanaag is not settled by AO's folks but by the people of Puntland. This is a simple misunderstanding, which for the most part has led AO to believe that we, Puntlanders, are all a bunch of land grabbing maniacs who all dream of eating Hargeisa babies and shutting down their marfashyo. :D

However; I'm confident with a little re-education that, he will realise, Puntland isn't against his people's babies--or for that matter-- their right to determine wether to secede their territories or not, but that we are ONLY against the idea that they think they can force Puntland's people to forcefully secede along with them. This is indeed an impossible dream and they should know NOT to waste time on this futile ambition.

Anyway, AO, please try to learn the geography of our northern regions! Learn what lands belong to your people and what lands belong to the sons of Puntland! Please desist from following blindy the nonsense Riyaale and his minions in Hargeisa preach so blantantly just to distract you from the mismanagement of your government...aight! smile.gif
