    I have had 1000x more opportunities than both my parents combined and I've hardly seen them complain as life threw stuff at them, but I complain 1,000,000x more than them in my bubbly middle-class existence....

     

    Perhaps true for many of us on SOL who are really privileged in many ways...

    what i'm proposing here, in my capacity as a conscious cultural critic, is a 'back to basics' approach, bringing alternative and seldom documented experiences into the cultural mainstream; with the intention of shining a light with the aim of uncovering, and authentically documenting, hard to reach cultures and sub-cultures that exist in the Somali-speaking world and in particular Somaliland. these voices should be organically sourced from their own communities (instead of being white, English speaking, off a Qurbo-Joogian romanticist mindset), given the tools and the encouragement to write books based on their experiences and values rather than having a romanticist Qurbo-Joogian ethno-centric culturally biased world-view forced upon them. the most important point is to realise that this romanticist Qurbo-Joogian ethno-centric culturally abusive milieu is the number one impediment to Somaliland authors and readers alike.

    Any one know how Nadifa's new book is inaar? have you read it

     

    Can't believe I missed HIBF this year, so sad, I was so looking forward to joining fellow saad moses....

    If poverty explains everything, why did Imaan marry 1) an African American (has a child with him) and then 2) David Bowie (another child). Last I checked Imaan is far far from poor...

     

    Leave the women alone; we don't have exclusive rights to them just because we are Somali men...

    Very true, some speak all 3 languages fluently - simple framework for understanding that is Somali clan migrations, who they came in contact with as they moved, who they settled with etc. The longfeet and in Kenya for instance are much much closer in many regards (especially and) than each of them are to their respective relatives back in Ethiopia....I have even seen entire jilibs of these 3 clans claiming to be one of the other interchangeably kkk

    Very simple answer - HAG has, over the decades/centuries, absorbed other relatives into its ranks; not just genealogy - pure HAGs are a nucleus of well-known clans and camel () lovers () and Beledweyne () peeps () are not genealogically HAG for instance.

     

    Another good example are the peeps (qaal) who joined HAG in 1991...

     

    The in Kenya don't self-identify as HAG; those across the border have joined their abtis.
