Somalia has hired British and US consultants to discredit a UN report that claims rampant corruption in Mogadishu because it threatens to imperil donor funding and the return of foreign-held assets, including gold, totalling billions of dollars.The report, commissioned by Somalia’s president and seen by the Financial Times ahead of its release, accuses UN investigators of being “factually inaccurate and inexplicably biased” and rejects claims that the central bank doubles as a corrupt slush fund and that $12m transferred to the bank by accountancy firm PwC “could not be traced”. -
The UN itself is a corrupt system. All those reports that come out also have the perfect timing in order to destabilize or discredit others. That's why it's best to have independent organizations to do researches like this. Interesting article.

It needs a Somali touch. Something typically Somali and recognizable. Perfect moment for a culture exchange. This seems too progressive for the savage Somali.

With Sharia
- A man can divorce his wife by only saying ' I divorce you' 3 times.( or "Talig") For the woman it's more difficult
- A woman's testimony is worthy half a man's.
- A woman gets half the inheritance of her male siblings
- Some crimes, such as rapes, will need 4 witnesses seeing the act happen for it to be trialled.
- There are harsh draconian laws against those that do not believe in islam anymore. Apostasy and blasphemy laws
- Women who remarry lose custody of their children.
- Under Sharia law, a girl is eligible for marriage as soon as a girl begins her first period.
Overall it's sadistic with its public flogging and stonings etc. Sharia is a nightmare in my opinion and will only invite intolerance and fear of any progression.
I see here people only celebrating it, because it has tamed the untameable Somali for a few months. So fear is the weapon?

Good pavement, roads, decent urban planning, trees, parks, food, water and housing for all, health care, education, job creation, etc. Garissa might be a case study for Somalis to look at on how oil money can be spent. I hope it's done wisely and will not disappear in pockets.
One well alone is worth 1.6 billion dollars. :cool:

I think this is just a pitch video. A lot of construction companies will showcase their views on Mogadishu. But it can't be only one company that will construct the whole city.

The first two pictures remind me of Kurdistan and even Grozny that is being rebuilt with oil money and Turkish involvement.
Somalis lack to define and stand for national interests. And lack the political will for long term planning. That is the greatest tragedy ever. All nations have national interests and work hard for them.
Somalia has fiefdoms a.k.a. Game of Thrones. I still have hope though.

Isn't this the guy who introduced Sharia police that go to the beaches to see if people are too 'friendly'. A la Iran.

I wonder what 22 years of chaos has done to the psyche of the men and boys on how they view Somali girls/women. They must think so low of them. 10 - 15 rape victims daily is insanely high. And the figure must be higher because of the taboo and shame that exists.
Even when women are covered head to toe they are raped. It doesn't even help.
Sometimes I don't understand why Somalia is on number 4 or 5 of the worst places to be a woman. It should be number 1.

Lol @ number 1. I just went to a wedding last week of a Somali girl marrying a Dutch convert. People didn't seem to mind.

Will Aweys be barred from politics? If he won't be executed. I can't imagine him in the Somali government promoting extremist views.
So many people are grieving for their loved ones and this man was (partly) responsible for that. The government will lose its legitimacy if they treat him with impunity. Unless he comes forward with useful intelligence.
He needs to be sanctioned regardless.
