I don't know if they were close or not but he was an elite commander, not sure if he was married to his daughter at the time. I honestly have no clue. However, yes, it was treason to a dictatorship. It was after the war not during, the war ended in March, they did it in April. However, the loss of the war had nothing to do with them, some were speculating that Siad Barre wanted to go further plus he should have taken Dire Dawa from the beginning, not half as you say. Somalia never stood a chance after he continued after he was warned over and over again by the Soviets.

The coup attempt happened AFTER the war. Also, I think I am explaining it wrong. It's not like General Morgan and the conspirators sat in a smoke filled room on how to plot it, of couurse there was intelligence, but Morgan was in on the loop, they couldn't have done a coup without Morgan. There were many factors, I remember asking my dad a long time ago what happened and he said one man ruined it. Now when I ask the elders what happened they said it was because of Morgan but also because of another man who thought he would lead the coup if he went first by taking a ministry but was caught. So there's a lot of factors. Also, I didn't agree with the timing of the coup, in fact I think they went at it the wrong way but people were disillusioned with Siad Barre, moral was low, obviously that's why they thought it'd be the best chance.

I don't think you understand, he was a rat who pretended to be on their side while he wasn't. How do you think the coup leaked in the first place, hours before it was to commence? Who am I? He was here. I think he was there for 10 years, my aunt was in there for 8.
-
He wasn't involved to carry it out, he was on the side of Siad Barre from the start, like a rat? And yeah, he's still alive.

The coup was set up in a good way, take the large bases and the most important ministries. Anyway, one of those men who were in the coup was General Morgan, but he was never on their side. There used to meetings on how the plan would go etc, and he was involved. He was the link between the inside and them and he controlled the most important bases in Mogadishu where the elite forces were, so without him the thing was finished. Anyway, the plan was engineered by Abdullahi Yusuf but it was headed by another man, Colonel Osman. When the time came to execute the plan, General Morgan blew the cover and they were all caught except Abdullahi Yusuf. Some were executed others weren't, my uncle got 20 years.

The war was over for a month. If it wasn't for General Morgan the coup was likely to succeed.

You won't know me, I've been watching the site for some time, maybe a year and a half, signed up once but my username got permanetly banned instantly, it was also my YouTube name so I had it coming. Funny enough, one of my uncles was part of that coup attempt..

As Mogadishu becomes more secure expect Secessionists tears to increase

Carafaat;753332 wrote: Indeed all credits go to Sheick Shariif en Amisom. Atleast they did not destroy the city and butcher the population, like Yeey and the Xabashi's did. What a JOKE. If it wasn't for Ina Yeey, there would be no Mogadishu today, you wouldn't even establish the government in Villa Somalia. The latest success was done ALL by Farmaajo, the only reason why Shariif is getting credit is because he's the President. -

Don't bring your SNM crap. SNM was the brainchild of SSDF and the country was not united like it will be against SL. You people are trying to change history as if you toppled Siad Barre. Lets get it straight, SSDF started the fight, USC finished it. You guys were running along somewhere in-between. -
Yunis;753290 wrote: Lool @lobbying A former member of Congress is lobbying to bring a major oil company back to Somalia. The Moffett Group, headed up by former Rep. Toby Moffett (D-Conn.), has been hired by the Puntland State of Somalia to encourage ConocoPhillips to reinvest in oil-rich tracts of land the company owns in the region but abandoned in 1991. "I don't want to kick the daylights of Conoco. I just want to ask them what their plans are," Moffett, chairman of the firm, told The Hill. Under the contract, his firm’s compensation is $10,000 per month, according to Moffett. The agreement lasts a year. Located on the very tip of the Horn of Africa, Puntland has been an autonomous state since 1998. Documents filed by the firm with the Justice Department say Moffett and others will represent the Puntland government before the Obama administration, Congress and other U.S. entities. “It will work towards the goals of promoting peace, security and political stability in Puntland through socio-economic development and helping Puntland benefit from its own natural resources,” the documents say. Also included with the Justice records is a June 7 letter from the president of Puntland, Abdirahman Mohamed Mohamud Farole, to Moffett. The letter says ConocoPhillips abandoned its oil exploration activities in Puntland in 1991 when the Somali central government in Mogadishu collapsed, leading to 20 years of civil war and splintered government. “The peace, security and political stability in Puntland can be sustained through socio-economic development, such as better schools and hospitals, construction of public infrastructure, light industry, and job-creation. As such, it is a matter of urgency that Puntland needs to benefit from its own natural resources, including potential oil reserves,” the letter states. The letter asks Moffett to help find “a tangible solution” to ConocoPhillips’s “inactivity” in the country. Moffett said he plans to contact Conoco to ask them about what they plan to do with their oil interests in Somalia. “It needs to develop them. Yes, we're going to have conversations with Conoco and politely ask them what their plans are,” Moffett said. “Depending on what they plan to do, they may face questions from Congress and from NGOs, asking why they are sitting on natural resources that could help Puntland when the country is struggling so.” Moffett said he is familiar with senior figures tied to Conoco. Ruth Harkin, the wife of Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), and Ken Duberstein, former Reagan White House chief of staff and chairman and CEO of the lobby firm, the Duberstein Group, serve on the oil company’s board of directors. Moffett will have a difficult case to make. Security is an issue in the region where armed gangs and pirates are prevalent and have attacked oil company officials in the past. But Moffett points to a new deal reached between leaders of several regional Somali governments, including Puntland, which is designed to put a long-lasting national government back in place. “It is not without merit, that position,” Moffett said, referring to security concerns. “I think the historic agreement is going to change that so that Puntland will be even more stable. It gives the Obama administration and U.S. companies a foundation for reexamining the situation.” http://thehill.com/business-a-lobbying/182165-ex-lawmaker-lobbies-to-bring-conocophillips-back-to-somalia That's TheHill not some run of the mill newspaper. Now take that and smoke it.

Good stuff, Puntland needs someone to handle the lobby groups. Another thing others lack.

^^ Sounds like the start of a great movie. Next, when you get to your destination you start explaining to friends what happened, the TV is on in the background, it's a small townhouse in the suburbs, while you are explaining, your local Fox station reports that a girl was abducted by 2 males, both matching the description of the ones you encountered, your friends say "what, what's happened??" while you are gasping and looking at the TV, dramatic music playing, the clip ends, the movie has a small intro. Take it from there.
