This is especially poignant as Ethiopia just yesterday announced the first export to Saudi of its new crash crop. From these findings it seems the Somali banana is of a superior quality. Somalia Posted February 28, 2012 No, they are not exported. Shalambot as it is called, is a huge area of plantations owned by the Italians and then by the government. Archdemos Posted February 28, 2012 I recently read a shocking statistic from the FAO that only 11% of Somalia's arable land is currently cultivated.
