Xaaji Xunjuf Posted August 3, 2011 National Electoral Commission Sets Election Dates Hargeysa, Somaliland, July 30, 2011 (SL Times) – Somaliland National Commission issued a press release in which it announced the dates of the coming municipal, parliamentary and national elections. The dates were as follows: 1-The opening of new political parties and municipal elections - August 2011 – April 2012 2-Registration of citizens/voters - June 2011- June 2012 (Feasibility Study, Design and Implementation) 3-Completing citizen/voter registration - February 2013 4-Parliamentary elections - May 2013 5-Election/selection of the Upper House - May 2014 6-Presidential and vice presidential election - June 2015. The National Electoral Commission said that although it was fulfilling its constitutional duties, it also took into account the decisions by the House of elders and the president’s speech to the joint session of the legislature. The NEC also highlighted the positive impression that Somaliland’s last presidential election had on the international community and how it made Somaliland a model for the rest of Africa.
