(SomaliNet) Local Islamic militants have launched ambush rocket attack on the Ethiopian forces stationing in the former pasta factory in north of the capital Mogadishu late on Sunday, residents said.

The attack began 6:40 pm local time after the maqrib prayer and ended around 7:20pm as a group of armed militants fired rocket propelled grenades at the Ethiopian base.

No casualty was reported from the latest night time attack. Both sides exchanged heavy weaponry as the sound of explosions could be heard around the surrounding villages.

Residents told Somalinet that masked men carried out the attack and the Ethiopians responded with heavy artillery weapons.

The insurgents continue carrying out night time hit and run attacks on the positions of the government and its allied Ethiopian forces.

The latest attack came as the government troops backed by the Ethiopians today searched houses and business places in southern parts of the capital arresting dozens of people and confiscating weapons.

Meanwhile, five people were killed and three others were wounded in tribal clashes in Jilib town, 400km south of the Somalia capital Mogadishu.
