Berbera - Still stripping the relics of the old Republic

One would have thought by now a sense of ownership and patriotism would have sunk in, at least in some parts of the country. It is unfortunate that to this day people are still stripping the relics of the old republic, ripping national symbols to pieces all for a moment's pleasure.

 

And I thought Mogadishu was the only place that fell prey to the “stripping and scrapping” destructive mode where the national treasures, symbols, fittings and fixtures had literally been shipped and sold abroad for pennies.

 

What are the people in Berbera doing shipping out “scraps” as fondly, locally known their national body parts?

 

Do people not realise the cost of replacement is astronomical and will take centuries to replace?

 

We know that such symbolic, nationalistic images are no longer, but why in God's name continue ....
