It is the innate human instinct that conditions us to look forward to the future for the mitigations and alleviations of our present nuisance and misfortunes. The unwritten faith we have on the future is what keeps us from hopelessness and rarely the future fails us as the world progresses continually for the better, albeit at different speeds. The Somali case is one of those rarities where the populace

gave up on future itself because in their world yesterday was better then today and certainly today dreads from tomorrow’s visit. They always look back last year and wish it stays in anticipation of the horrors and the death blows the New Year carries under its wings. The forgotten people of Somalia certainly have a good reason not to well come this New Year as the wreckage left in their hands by

the last two decades is enough to convince any sceptic. Somalia at best secures, without fail, its place at the bottom of the quality of life indices or at worst missing out all together due to lack of data. There is no place like Somalia in this world bulging with people – nation that is food aid dependent and cramped in to IDP

camps.

Eventually the Ahlu Sunna group will defeat Al Shabaab, after much blood is spilled. Sharif is a clown who lost the day he entered politics.

Xiin..The author touched on few important issues but I think the most important issue is the futility of imposing and supporting governments that were results of foriegn brokers and local warlords.

 

Such governments he noted lacks letigimacy and is constructured in such that way it serves the policies of the powers to be which is merely to contain the Islamists without giving any serious thought to long-term solutions or paying any attention to the human catasphore. The Sharif government is the prefect example of an entity propped by the Yanks and others to divide the Islamists while bringing no real solution. As result of this TFG under "moderate" Muslims, Yanks and others have managed to allevaite Al-Shabaab and solidify their support. This continues of the TFG will only exacerbate the problem. The TFG can not bring a solution the following reasons:

 

-Lack of letigimacy since it is imposed on us.

-Poor leadership, it is apparent everyday Sharif

is not much of leader.

-Lack of capicity which it leaves it in weak

state.

-Lack of action. TFG has done nothing so far that

will win any friends among Somalis or will

letigimize their existence.

 

He concludes that world should wash their hands off Somalia and that world shouldn't label the homegrown Islamists as terrorist. His assumptions the TFG will be run out of turn. Ahlu Suna and Al-Shabaab will go at it. Any victor assumptions being it is the Islamist that will be constrained by the realities of running state.

Suffice to say that the author is feigning of appearance of knowing what he is talking about whilst it is evidently clear that he is not. Somalia is not down because the world has intervened, as this author suggests. To the contrary the world has convinced itself, quite erroneously, that it could contain the ‘Somali problem’ without committing too much treasure or political capital, consequently condemning the country in the most untenable state. That is to say, the world failed to take Somalia seriously and help it come back in a significant way.

 

The notion that suggests let the Somalis fight it out, till they settle their disagreements, is ridiculously bogus, and transparently dishonest for it conveniently presupposes that Somalia and its people has no bearing to the geopolitical interactions that surround it.

 

Although the decline of Sharif’s tfg appears to be swift, the basic formula to reach political settlement on which it was inaugurated remains fundamentally unscathed. When all is said and done, dialogue, and compromise are the only means to reach a just, political settlement. All is not lost, adeer. While the south still burns, those in the North and East enjoy relative peace and stability for which we all need to appreciate. Add to that the fact most Somalis have similar diagnosis as to what is preventing peace to take hold. The violent methods widely used by alshabaab have been roundly rejected. We are not worse than we were before, and in my estimation the political bottlenecks are about to ease.
