Somaliland Rejects Somalia’s Claims Over Berbera, Affirms Legality of Agreements with UAE

Hargeisa — The Government of the Republic of Somaliland has firmly rejected what it described as “false allegations” issued by Somalia regarding the city of Berbera.

In an official statement, the Somaliland government stressed that Somalia has no jurisdiction, authority, or legal standing to interfere in Somaliland’s territory or in the agreements it signs, emphasizing that such claims lack any legal or political basis.

The statement added that all agreements signed between Somaliland and the United Arab Emirates — including those related to the Port of Berbera — are legal, valid, and binding, and were concluded in accordance with Somaliland’s constitutional institutions and legal frameworks.

Somaliland further asserted that Somalia’s attempts to undermine these agreements constitute an unacceptable interference in its internal affairs. The government reaffirmed its full right to manage its territory, international relations, and agreements in ways that serve the interests of its people and promote stability and development in the region.
