President of the Republic of Somaliland Holds Meeting with the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, UK

The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro), held an important meeting today with the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Mrs. Safiya Saeed (Safiya Berberaawi), who is currently on an official visit to the country.

The meeting focused on strengthening the historic relationship, development cooperation, and collaboration between the two parties, particularly between Somaliland and the city of Sheffield in the United Kingdom.

The President thanked Mrs. Safiya Saeed for her visit to Somaliland, highlighting the important role played by the Somaliland community residing in Sheffield in the development of the country. He also praised their role as a bridge connecting Somaliland and the United Kingdom, consistently defending the cause and existence of Somaliland.

The President noted that Sheffield was the first city in the UK to clearly show support for the recognition of Somaliland in 2014, a bold step that encouraged other major cities in the UK to also support Somaliland’s cause.

On her part, Lady Lord Mayor Safiya Saeed thanked the President for the warm welcome she received in Somaliland. She emphasized the importance of cooperation in areas of development, education, and community collaboration. She particularly highlighted the role of women in building the Somaliland nation and encouraged increased participation of women in political and governmental administration.

Mrs. Safiya Saeed pledged that the Sheffield City Council will continue to support Somaliland’s cause and strengthen the cooperative relationship between the two sides, especially in the fields of education, health, investment, and community development.
