Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — The Finance Ministry of Somalia has introduced a transport monitoring system. The new system will ensure that all vehicles on the road have paid the required road tax. Another important feature of the system is the inclusion of a government database containing the registration details of vehicles operating in Mogadishu.

The Finance Ministry will grant the police access to the system to help prevent car theft and to play an active role in stopping the use of explosive-laden vehicles targeting civilians or government facilities, a tactic used by Al-Shabaab.

The system will be rolled out in the Federal Member States to ensure uniformity in transport monitoring mechanisms, which are essential for compliance with road tax obligations and for maintaining traffic safety in the Federal Republic of Somalia.
