The Commander of United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) General Michael Langley urged the African countries including Somalia to take over the security responsibility.

The statement from Langley comes at a time when the U.S. is reducing the funds that it allocates in order to restore stability in the region.

He said: “It is not possible to do what we used to do before. I request that you must take steps and share the responsibility.

He told that the extremist groups like Al-Shabab are trying to exploit the poverty due to the reduction of funds.

He said that Al-shabab are setting up administrations in areas that are not under the control of the Somali Federal Gov’t.

He stated that the U.S. will continue the intelligence support and the military exercises.

He revealed that the support will be based on the mutual interests and a leadership that can respond to the domestic constraints.

On the other hand, China will increase its influence in the continent and has stepped up the aid it provides to Africa including trainings given to soldiers and large investments in security.
