President Cirro Inaugurates Somaliland’s Liaison Office in Nairobi

It’s official – #Somaliland has strengthened its diplomatic footprint in East Africa although with serious questions about Hargeisa’s diplomatic strategy and those advising it’s leadership.

The inauguration comes barely two days after the Kenyan government halted the planned opening of the Somaliland Liaison Office, citing its recognition of the Federal Government of Somalia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a directive stating that the Liaison Office could not be upgraded to a diplomatic mission, reinforcing its commitment to Somalia’s territorial integrity.

Despite this setback Somaliland went ahead with the opening of the liaison office after getting President Ruto’s blessing in a dramatic u-turn by Nairobi.

It serves as a silver lining in a dramatic series of diplomatic blows for the Somaliland president in Djibouti and now Kenya.

Cirro may have got the concession, but there are questions about those advising the Somaliland leadership.
