Puntland President Inaugurates Desert Locust Monitoring Centre

President Deni inaugurating the National Desert Locust Monitoring & Control Centre in Somalia.

Qardho (PP News) — Puntland State President Said Abdullahi Deni yesterday inaugurated the Desert Locust Monitoring Centre in Qardho. Funded by USAID and the British Government, the Centre will monitor swarms of locusts that periodically affect northern and north eastern regions of Somalia.

USAID and the British Government funded the National Desert Locust Monitoring and Control Centre in Somalia.

President Deni commended the Federal Ministry for Agriculture and Puntland Agriculture and Environment Ministry for efforts to coordinate their work to oversee construction project.

President Deni thanked USAID and the British Government for funding the centre that will play an important role in devising preventive measures against locus swarms that threaten agricultural outputs.

At the inauguration ceremony the Federal Agriculture Minister Saeed Hussein Eid and Desert Locust Control Organization for Eastern Africa (DLCO-EA) representative signed a cooperation agreement.
