Horseed and Mideeye Lock Horns Over Financing Puntland Democratisation Process

Garowe (PP News Desk) — Horseed, a Puntland-based political association led by former Puntland President Abdirahman Farole, had accused Mideeye, a rival political association, of spreading unsubstantiated allegations against Puntland Government.

Axmed Siciid Aw Nuur, a member of Mideeye, yesterday criticised Kaah, the political association led by Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni, for using public resources for campaigning.

Puntland State government has allocated US$ 90,000 for nine political associations to cover campaign expenses ahead of local pilot elections to be conducted at Qardho, Eyl and Ufayn.

“Horseed has governed Puntland and introduced the democratisation process. It will oversee the government’s handling of the democratisation process” reads Horseed’s statement.

Horseed’s remit does not place it above other political associations to oversee the democratisation process nor has it ever become a political party ever to govern Puntland.

Neither the Transitional Puntland Electoral Commission nor Puntland State government has commented on Horseed’s claim.

Horseed said it was committed to the Puntland’s transition to a multiparty system twenty two years after Somalia’s first autonomous administration was formed in Garowe after a grand consultative conference.
