Office of Puntland Human Rights Defender Calls For Investigation into Extrajudicial Killing

Garowe (PP News Desk) — The Office Puntland Human Rights Defender denounced the Killing of a fifteen year old girl who was demonstrating against the inflation caused by the depreciation of the Somali shilling.

In a statement the Office of Puntland Human Rights Defender called on Puntland authorities to bring to book police officers who caused the death of Nadiro Faysal Shire.

“Police commanders have obligation to ensure civilians’ safety and act prudently when conducting operations. Article 2 of Puntland Constitution stresses the the supremacy of the law” reads the statement.

On 26 December 2020 police units were deployed to quell demonstrations at several Garowe neighbourhoods. Similar demonstrations took place in Galka’yo and Bosaso.
