UNIDENTIFIED GUNMEN ASSASSINATE IMMIGRATION OFFICER IN GALKA’YO

Galka’yo (PP News Desk) — Gunmen whose identities are unknown shot dead Osman Hussein Haji Ismail, a senior officer of Somali Immigration Agency’s office in Galka’yo. The gunmen targetted Osman in a mosque while he was observing pre-prayer ablution.

The mosque is located in Israac quarter of the divided district. Puntland Security Forces in North Galka’yo have launched investigation into the murder. A spate of killings against civilians in Galka’yo for the last five weeks have brought to the fore the deteriorating security situation of the district under the control of Puntland and Galmudug.

Last week the former North Galka’yo Central Police Station Commander Captain Abdiqani Jama Ahmed resigned, citing lack of cooperation from the police headquarters in Garowe. Abdiqani survived an attempt on his life after IED had been attached to his vehicle.

Puntland State President Said Abdullahi Deni has sacked the Mudug Regional Police Commander Colonel Jama Mohamed Ahmed and appointed Colonel Mumin Abdi Shire as the Mudug Regional Police Commander.
