Gunmen kills a civilian in southern Somalia town

Unknown gunmen have shot and killed a civilian in Jowhar, the regional capital of Middle Shabelle province in southern Somalia on Saturday.

A witness said the slain man who was identified as Osman Rageh has been gunned down at the town’s river bridge early in the day. It remains unclear the motive behind the murder.

Somali security forces cordoned off the scene near the shooting site and carried out an operation, but no arrest was reported as the killers escaped on foot before their arrival.

The city has been stable for the past months as it hosts the top officials of HirShabelle state of Somalia under AMISOM troops protection.
