Somalia joins Qatar in the condemnation of attack in Kenya

The Governments of Somalia and Qatar have condemned an al-Shabaab attack on a Garissa village in northeastern Kenya amid terror attack concern increases in the region.

In a Twitter post, Somali foreign minister, Ahmed Isse Awad extended his condolences to the families of the victims killed in the attack.

“My heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the innocent Kenyan teachers killed in the cowardly attack in Kamuthe, Fafi sub-county. On behalf of the Federal Gov’t of Somalia, I strongly condemn this senseless attack that targeted teachers and pupils. Terror will fail,” reads Twitter.

In a pre-dawn attack, al-Shabaab fighters killed three non-local teachers after destroying mast communication and police posts in the areas.

Meanwhile, Qatari foreign ministry strongly condemned the attack that targeted a school and a police station in Garissa County saying it is unacceptable to kill innocent people with no genuine reason.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the State of Qatar’s firm position rejecting violence and terrorism, whatever the motives and reasons.

The statement expressed condolences of the State of Qatar to the victims’ families, the government and the people of Kenya, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
