Gunfire heard at US military base ‘under siege after double car bomb blast’

Explosions from two car bombs are reported to have struck the US Military base at the Baledogle airfield in, Somalia.

Multiple Somalian reports say Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab fighters have carried out the attack on the base, citing pro-militia media.

The airfield is around 62 miles northwest of the Somali capital of Mogadishu.

Local reports say the explosions could be heard from cities miles from the airfield.

They are reporting a large plume of smoke and the sound of gunfire has been observed at the site, where American troops are based.
