Somaliland: Waddani Chair Praises Parliament For Rejecting Emergency Law Bill

Hargeisa ,(Qaran news)-The  chairof Somaliland’s Waddani Party, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi “Cirro” has praised the members of the joint parliamentary session for rejecting the proposed Emergency Law Bill.

The joint session met on Thursday to vote on the bill submitted by the administration of President Muse Bihi Abdi, to be applied to the towns of Erigavo, El-Afwein and Garadag. The Emergency Law was requested by the administration in order to deal with recent murder of two Somaliland officers in Sanaag region.

The Speaker of the parliament, Bashe Mohamed Farah, who chaired the joint session attempted to get a vote on the bill without a debate. After the first vote which was 41 members in favour of the bill out of 107 members present, a second count was attempted. However, whilst the votes were being counted, the Speaker abruptly suspended the session.

The joint session is expected to resume on Saturday.

Meanwhile, whilst addressing the media, Waddani chair and former Speaker of the parliament, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi “Cirro” praised the members of the joint session for rejecting the Emergency Law bill, which his words was, ” a sign of the governments’s failure to provide solutions to the issues facing Somaliland today, and if an emergency law is imposed on Sanaag, then where will be next? Awdal, Togdher or Marodi Jeh regions”
