ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (Caasimada Online) — Ethiopian military says it carried out deadly airstrike targeting Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group in Somalia.

Ethiopian air force official, Brig. Gen. Yilma Merdassa said the strike killed 70 Al Shabaab militants in neighboring Somalia.

Merdassa says the airstrike was aimed to thwart an Al-Shabab attack on an Ethiopian troops with multinational African Union force.

He said two vehicles laden with bomb explosives were also destroyed in the strike.

Yilma Merdassa did not mention where or when the airstrike occurred.

“We achieved 100 percent of our plans against Al Shabaab group”, he said.

The Al Qaeda linked Al Shabab group has not commented on the latest strike in Somalia.

There was no immediate comment from Somali authorities over the claims made by Ethiopian military.

Last week, U.S. military claimed to have killed two Al Shabaab militants in drone strike in Mubarak town, some 37 miles west of Somali capital Mogadishu.
