First, the calls or rather the optimistic hopes that I will apologize to the SNM is not coming out of a genuine conviction that I erred or an expectation that I will indeed express regret. Rather, it is based on SNM’s deep-seated self-delusion that everybody owes them something: the international community owes them recognition, Somalia owes them compensation, Djibouti owes them solidarity, and little souls like me, who expose the squalid political strategies they follow owe them an apology. It is an affliction which hasn’t started in 1980's or at SOL. Its history dates back to the first union, where spacious political accommodation accorded to them seemed as two-by-two room for them. No one can cure the self-delusion that because a certain British man put a line between what came to be known as British Somaliland and Italian Somaliland, a small Somali clan must usurp disproportionate political clout in a unified Somalia. Demographic realism simply throw-outs such wanton petulance and mischief. The drive for secession is firmly rooted in the realization that such day-light pilfering of an underserved political power will not be acceptable to other Somalis. Second, I have always thought it is only in Sports that teams or individuals often get an off-day – a day where the Barcelona of this world will get whipped by the likes of Stoke! I never thought such off-days come in the intellectual realm. We have just seen what it looks when Ngonge has an off-day, maybe because he hasn’t taken a sufficient dose of the simulant with the smoke and pipe. Or maybe those he relied on for historical data to refute the allegations against SNM did not do their homework. All in all, Ngonge is never known for cadre-style mindless slogans, but he just did that. Let me ask him, which Somaliland is he talking about? He said Borame? Does that mean he doesn’t accept Awdal State? And if so, why? He hasn’t lived in the lands, but the joke below summarizes the ‘somalilandimo’ of Rayaale Kaahin, Xaabsade and the other gluttons. They are like the proverbial glutton who chanced upon a funeral wake, and after seeing a hefty quantity of meat cooking on the fire in a corner, wailed to high heaven, throwing his body on the ground, mourned more than the grief-stricken widow. He soon faked fainting and was soon taken to the shades. Eyes closed, but ears firmly recording the exchanges over his frail body, he heard elders ordering that the first slices of meat and milk be given to him when he awakens. Minutes later, he opened his eyes, and soon devoured in no time sizzling camel meat and milk. Stomach full, and a twig in between his big teeth to pluck obstinate strings of meat, he asks the person nearest to him, “hawl-kan yaa loo sameeyey” (whose funeral wake is this)? In this case, “whose aqoonsi are we in hot pursuit for?” So Ace of Spadez and the rest of secessionist should disabuse themselves of this false notion that Las Anod and Borame are part of the secession craze! Third, Ngonge’s jab that any poetry lines get me titillated is not supported by any empirical evidence or precedence. As such, it remains a speculation on his part. The rest of his talk about the wonders the SNM has achieved or is achieving is a hearsay he was fed by overzealous uncles from the stone-throwing village. It is not his fault. Lastly, the manufactured annoyance about women insulted comes because debating SNM’s moral paucity is too painful to face for those who call this abode of infamy (SNM) home. As the result, a safe escape route is to regurgitate the ‘women are insulted’ non-issue with sickening prurience. The hard-core SNM elements like Ace of Spadez know the dilatory defense-lines they have built over this issue. But the sad thing is they are using the gullible as fetching dogs. They throw the stick with ‘women are insulted’ and say fetch; and off goes Abokor and Jacayl yapping happily.

Abokor, Customarily, Somalis have a rather silly way of praying for what they like. One such prayer is "ilaahow maqanaha (the one who is away) soo nabad celi". I always wondered if this generalised ducco, with no nuances or qualifications, is not dangerous. For such a Ducco can bring back to our land ill-informed juveniles -like you-whose history started in the days of Koodbuur's heroism. Or worse, an out and out political charlatan like Xinnfanin with mendacious caravans. It is safer to pray 'ilaahow maqanaha meeshuu joogo ku nabadgeli' or some other line. Clearly, a man who thinks somali prostitutes can survive in Addis, business-wise, can only be a man from planet Mars. We are not here to trade insult, we are here to debate (whether we agree or disagree). You asked me about the moral poverty of the SNM, and I will give you a summary of my earlier allegations. SNM as a political body sanctions fronting women for political gains. That is the charge.

On the basis of the routine vilification I receive for pointing out poignant truths, never palatable but nonetheless the overbearing truth, one can figure out what will be a befitting valediction, the day the last breath goes out of my tiny body. It will not be the sanctified “haadaa xaqullah, xaqu daa'imu laah”. It cannot be the satirical “Kukale mooye, kani galbay”. Rather, my body will be lowered to the ground, escorted by Cliff Richard’s veritable song “The misunderstood Man”. For that is how I lived in SOL, and that is what a truthful obituary of mine should read. These are the facts of the matter These are the names in the case This is the story, the passion The time and the place They’re laid here before you So judge if you can The devil incarnate or A misunderstood man His origin, his way of life His motives they are all news No shortage of detractors To air their noisy views The man inspires a thousand lies The lover takes his choice Remaining coldly in control Aware that sadly, on the whole It is the fool who bares his soul I will give the man a voice Both Malika and Ibtisam have failed to get the central theme of this post, which is not about what is in between the legs of a women, or who sleeps with who, but rather about the moral poverty of the SNM. Is it wilful misunderstanding or a clever diversionary parody, I can't tell.

:D :D looooooool! NEVER budgeted for that one! Indeed, the assertion is suspect, and your alibi further discounts it. Eey the hangover, i forgot! BUT, hey, the voting hours extended until 7:00 a.m in the evening! They could sneak out in their tights, dip their long nails into the ink, vote for the bearded man, and could get back to business!

Burahadeer, Perplexed by the connotations of this nairobi birds of pleasure, I just gave a call to a man I know could know about this issue. It may be tongue-in-cheek, but he says in the last by-elections, there were rumors the somali night birds disproportionately voted for the losing MP, by the name Johnny. Now that is totally counter-intiutive. For all we know Johnny is a religious man. It could be false, unless the voting pattern didnot consider the religiosity or non-religiosity of the candidates.
-
Dear Burhadeer, You are a good debater and I take your taunts seriously. But on this occassion, you missed the point by a wide margin. You see, far more urgent than the liberation of a certain region is upholding the integrity, sancitity and humanity of women in general, and somali women in particular. Any act that dehumanises women needs to be named and shamed, whether it is done by a rapist gurriella outfit in democaratic congo, or by pimping SNM politicians. That is what I have done and I stand tall and proud, convinced I have done my part in this stolid struggle of fighting evil.

Somalis have yet to learn debating issues abstemiously. This is part of our collective adolescence in the realms of dialogue and discussions. We simply cannot talk about the agenda at hand, but rather relish in the one percieved to be behind the expressed agenda. Even when a man is killed by a known town vagrant, we quickly start discussing "cidda ka danbeysay". It is a curse. If all men in SOL go the way of Uchi, and get contented to stalk those whose ideas they do not agree with, it is going to be a very intolerant forum where the confines of discussion is limited to what a small clique of self-appointed guardians of morality and good manners like only. As much as we disagree with posts in SOL, we should let the admin define if someone is breaking the rules and debate the issues raised rather than the person. If we can't do that, we then should shut up and weep in front of our computer screens, cursing our schooling, our inability to effectively counter rival opinions. Rather, what many with the brain size of a chicken do is whine endlessly and drag the motivations of the writer into the story as if that answers the issues raised. I alleged SNM uses unhygenic political tactics when in combat mode. I could be wrong, I could be right. I alleged the recent story of Mahiga and the concubine (a story I have not started, for the record) fits into a long-established pattern of pawning women for political ends. Again, I could be right or wrong. An intelligent response could be Ngonge's "we are all in it". A daft one could be the "bacaaaaaaaaaaac" mantra of Jacaylbaro. Or Xaji Xundjuf's embarrassed silence, as a man who have witnessed some of these misdeeds first-hand in his days as a mujaaheed. What it cannot be is talking about the clan composition of the whores in Nairobi. What it cannot be is talking about insults against somali women, which is not written anywhere in this thread. Again, for the record, this poster was not in his mother's stomach when a perceptive poet composed accusatory lines along similiar themes, and said " Waa taa midaan dhalay idhaa, maydhan yaa gadane". This could well be a wrong characterisation. If my allegation is a fable, it is a fable that started before the 21st century. But let us refute it boldly. Let us kill it with relvant refutations. A man whose intestines are full of air dreads jumping up and down, for there is a risk he will break an avalanche of fetid air and will disgrace himself publicly. I see a sort of that dread in the eyes of some secessionists. No one is saying SNM doesn't engage in these acts so far.
-
Zack and the rest of men from the same soil, please, please do not allow the discussion to take the direction of debating the clan composition of the hookers in Nairobi and Addis. While we all know the facts, it doesn't help to go that way and urinate on this serious discourse about SNM's pimp politics. Please. Abokor, we can discuss the behaviour of Og men politically in another thread. Let emotion and hot burco blood not take its toll on your rationality. Refute if SNM is known for using women in politics. That is the issue.
-
Abokor, The issue is not about whether some somali women are married to white, black or brown men, or whether they dress scantily or go nude. The issue is about whether a certain political entity has a political philosophy that accepts using women's flesh as a political weapon in political struggles. And there is where the SNM has a history and unparralled pedigree. Let us see if you can refute this fact. All somali women are our women, whether in the O-lands or in Somaliland. This is not about our women. This is about our men and their moral compass.
-
Carafaat, watch your mouth, cousin. I don't know about the prostitutes in Nairobi. In fact, I haven't seen them at all. I hear they are there, but if I were to look for a woman (which I don't because I have few I am married to), I think I can afford some in better places than brothels. Also, prostitution has no clan, or colour. If you were insinutaing a certain clan has more over the others, for me all Somalis are Somalis, and that is a collective shame for all of us, the same way the SL girl's horror story is a horror to all of us. SNM as a political entity must banish this bizarre belief that to control a man you have to aim for below the belt, where his reproductive organs are. In the liberation days, it was about winning the war, today it is for the attainment of the coveted ‘African Hashimite’ republic. That is where I have a problem with SNM. Ngonge, it is far more appropriate to imagine the damage and mutilation the beefy Bantu has caused to the sister, than what she looks like.
-
Ngonge did a good job, but the below-par secessionists are singing about oranges when the matter is about camel milk. Ayan Hirsi Ali is worse than the woman in this post. Incidentally, whose guilt Abokor has confirmed, but tried to lessen its effect on him and his ilk by emphasizing that she is 'canadian' and that her choice is a free choice by an adult. But Ayan Hirsi Ali doesn't parachute down in Garowe and Bossaso and get flowers from Puntland dignitaries, She doesn't get red-carpet in Puntland or Kismayo or anywhere her ancestors slept even for a day. She is a pariah, an outcast. However, Mahiga's concubine is a celebrity in Hargeisa, winning prizes and accolades for her exploits. That is the difference. False analogies won't take you far, dear Abokor.

Ceelcade of Gedo Decimated by Unknown Foreign Fighter Jets

Burhadeer, bitterness is a charge I accept. Of course, i should be bitter when my women are devalued and traded for futile secession project. In the bigger picture, the shame is mine too. Afterall, these are somali women.
-
They use to say 'where there is a klinsmann, there is a goal'. Where there is pimp politicians who dare the mother of all abominations to advance mundane political ambitions, there will be men who will talk about the pimped women. Burahadeer is repeating the same allegations I have tried to debunk in the post above. The issue is not about the woman, the issue is about SNM and its age-old tradition of pawning women for miasmic poilitical gains. It is dehumanizing women, and the best way to respect the dignity of somali woman is not to insult Suusle and Abtigiis, but to write petitions to the SNM leaders in Hargeisa and pressure them to cancel pimping as official SNM political strategy. There are many somali woman who are married or sleep with non-somali men without being married to them. This is normal. The one's married are married to humans, not to animals. The others sleeping around, are like the rest of womanhood selling their bodies and dignity for a livelihood or addiction. To state this may be painful for some people's ego, but it is a fact. The talk of presenting somali woman as something unique and different from other races is equally false as well. They are not better than the rest of women in the world, they are not worse than them too. Among them, there are the good ones, the bad ones, the clean, the unclean, the successful, the failures, the pretty, the ugly. To talk about one or two is in no way to talk about the others. That is the point I wanted to hammer home. But Suusle's poem was actually targeting the men who allowed and sponsored this abomination, not the woman herself. So, people who are talking about 'insult against somali women' are disingenious and are trying to hide the shames of their political elites under these sensitivties.

This unprovoked sacrilege against my good name and standing in SOL will not go unpunished! Gloves are off and I promise a big fight. The fish-eater from the land of the sea robbers has gone far with this falsified interview and has set the stage for a bare-knuckled fist-fight. There will be no rules, no norms to obey.

These multitude we call ‘Somali women’ has nothing in common. They have different preferences, judgments, political proclivities, and social sensibilities. Let us say it straight! They have different breast shapes, buttock sizes and different uters colours (Excuse the foul language). They don’t even get impregnated in the same position let alone share common values. So, it is most infuriating when false sensitivities about these non-existent multitude vitiates against art not least of it witty poems that ought to have been lauded and celebrated. Instead of analyzing the poetic competence of Abwaan Suusle’s “guur xumaaday” poem, we talked about Somali women, as if the artist prosecuted all of these mortals for bending for Mahiga. This is a big shame and great disservice to Somali art. The artist talked about a specific woman, one whom many before him alleged to be the diplomat’s multi-purpose concubine. The story of Mahiga, and the Somalilander girl alleged to be putting her sharp teeth against Mahiga’s soft tissue (not to castrate him for the offenses he is committing against Somalia, but rather to gently scrub the Bantu-man’s loins for a firm erection that will only be released when recognition comes down to Somaliland) was all over the Somali media; well before Suusle summed it up with an enjoyable poem. It is not difficult to understand why the secessionists in SOL would cry foul and characteristically turn the discussion to one about the integrity of Somali women, in consanguineous defense of a wayward girl from their homestead. But, it is not easy to comprehend why sensible Solers allowed the secessionists stifle the beauty and class of the poem, with irrelevant interruption about insults against Somaliland women. I would have loved to let this blameworthy brawl pass without me. But the sheer mendacity of the secessionist clique in SOL which seemed to have carried the day against the gullibility of other SOLers was too excruciating to watch from afar. That SNM is indiscriminate in its tactics when in fighting mode is beyond question. Colonel Geta-masay Temesgen was a peasant army officer in the town of Degahbour in late 1980s, with mild expectations about who he can bed. That was so, until SNM military commanders offered Fardowsa as a human dowry in exchange for ammunition and fuel one fateful night. I saw the girl about a decade later in highland Ethiopia, wearing white ‘netela’ (scarf) and attending a mourning among many other Ethiopian women. She greeted me in Somali, although she was dressed in full Ethiopian costumes. I still recall her quintessential Somali face, visibly sad. If she married the colonel out of her free-will and choice, I am fine with it. But she could not have made an informed choice at the tender age of 15 or 16, when her uncles pawned her for political career. This is not an isolated case, and I can give names of five to six women from the SNM clan who were given to Ethiopian military commanders in Hart-sheikh, Jigjiga, Harar and Diri-Dhabe at the height of the SNM resistance. These statistics does not include those presented on a temporarily basis, often on a one-nightly stand. This is a fact the SNM clan need to look into, and either accept culpability for or defend on the basis of the expediency of the times. They cannot deny it; they cannot seek protection by invoking Somali cultural codes exempting insult against women. No one is insulting the girls who are clearly victims in this high-stake game of clan statehood ambition. Poet Suusle is insulting SNM’s filthy political culture of fighting with every tool available to them, including the cervix of their womenfolk. The presumption of innocence until found guilty applies to the woman linked to Mahiga and it will be wrong to vilify her without any evidence. To that extent, the poet’s verdict may be erroneous given that no proof has been presented for the girl’s double-task with the man she formally serves as assistant. However, passing a criminal verdict is not the role of a poet. That is for judges and courts. A poet’s duty is to express opinions on contemporary social, political, cultural and moral paradigms, events and storylines. A poet is allowed to ridicule alleged obscenities and perceived inclinations of some social groups. ‘Guur xumaaday’ falls into this category. While the poet could be wrong about the woman involved in his poem, he has skillfully exposed the indiscriminate modus-operandi of the SNM. In many ways, Sillanyo and the SNM horde suffer from Okonkwo’s malady. Dying to be seen as a warrior in a milieu that worshipped soldierly heroism, Okonkwo felt small and unfit. Not because he was not man enough, but because Unoka, Okonkwo’s father, was an aesthete who cherished flutes and not rifles. Okonkwo’s obsession to be taken as a man of iron, a man of unwavering bravery and firmness, led to him killing his own son who fled to him to protection. In so doing, he offended the foundational value of his own village which prohibited killing one’s own son. The fear of not being equal to the other men in the village, a fear incarnated by oknkwo’s mischaracterization of his own father, had compelled him into committing the repulsive sin for which a humiliating suicide would be the only cure. Equally, ingrained clan worship, which has no bounds and horizons, and the urge to outfox political adversaries drove the SNM to commit the dishonorable act of donating innocent Somali girls to outsiders, for the sole purpose of attaining political mileage over perceived enemies – ironically, fellow Somalis. And they did so with the restraint of the archetypal SNM decadence, in the process offending against more conclusive cultural sensitivities, such as the cleanliness and preciousness of the Somali women, upon which our collective pride as people stands on. The Sheikh Sirros of SNM peninsula, who pass edicts for the enslavement of Sool and Sanaag girls, doesn’t have time to speak against SNM’s long-standing pimp politics, as evidenced by the Mahiga story and many similar stories before it. Cry beloved country! Cry Somalia. Two decades ago, Abwaan Surwaal, a man I call an uncle and from my dusty village, composed the following lines for an internal nuptial matter that involved two sub-clans of the same clan in my land. Surwaal was wrong on that occasion, but I am sure he will allow me to attribute his famous lines to Mahiga’s victim, posthumously. For it fits this tale! Geenyada Bureeqa ah, markuu baqalku fuulaayey Way baadiyootee, sharcigu uma baneeyeene As for Suusle, 21 gun salutes wouldn’t adequately honour him for his top-notch sonnet.

Finally, finally, let go for leave. Exicted. Istanbul beckons! It is signed or so they say! Was prepared to leave the wholeplace if it is declined once more under false pretense we are in 'emergency'. No more lesbian tormentor, no more incompetent boss who thinks I look down on her, no more silly office silly gossips, no more waking up at 6 and going to bed at 09. Time for kids, time for family. And finally time for some real friends, not virtutal ones on the cyber world! Alxamdu lillah.

I and Xinn are good friends, with reciprocal admiration for one another. If we tussle here, it is only because Xinn takes positions not on the merits of the issues at hand, but based on where Abtigiis stands on these issues. He has decided that because A&T is fickle, whatever he supports must be bad. The other worrying trend I see in him of late is undue obsession with supposed analysis of white guys about Somalia. He thinks highly of analysts for whom stating which clan resides in which region is a big discovery. Unless he afflicted with self-hate as a somali, a better analysis is given in SOL by resident SOLers about the current somalia situation, Kenyan invasion etc than all of the articles he advertises here as if they are wirtten by God's emisseries. Other than this foibles, the man is great and a good friend. The fact is he earns more support in SOL for his manners than for his ideas. Of course, he plays the man these days, but that is what we do when we are in desperation. Abtigiis supports Ethiopia is his new song, something no one with elementary knowledge of politics can't take, given my well-known political views about zenawi and Ethiopia. Even Faarax-Brawn, as deft as he is in political matters, will not fall for this.

Gabbal, I always thought Xinn's problem was 'infallibility syndrome' and addiction to 'consistency'. Now I know I was very generous to the man. He is a rank and file man. Of that, have no doubt! :D -
:D It is harsh to say Xinn is the proverbial intelligent fool, the one they say "can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent", while all that it takes to undo the complexities the fool mounted is "a touch of genius", one that makes things simpler. But Albert Einstien must have been talking about Xinn when he said "He who joyfully marches in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would suffice." :DWho disputes that Xinn is a man who revels in taking the common position, the chants of the uninitiated rank and file? He reflects the opinions of the rank and file and therefore always politically correct, but with little substantive contributions to the way forward.

gabygan and many other tributes are composed for him. Apparently, the Tigres said he was mad, but then when VOA amharic service called the doctor who took care of in his last hours, the Doctor said "he cannot comment" on this. The doctor will be arrested now for even saying that. Here is the poem “I will die standing”. I won’t wait for death, sleeping on my bed I will go to it, riding the macabre horse Nor will I bath with tears, sitting and weeping I won’t kneel down, bending my knees I will not wait for it, to come and take me I will go to it, so it doesn’t come for him (other Ethiopians) Let it know my pride, let it see my courage I will die standing, I will never kneel down! I won’t look for a cave, to hid myself in I don’t want jungle, where I disappear into My neck will not stare down, nor will I turn my face My bones will not tire; I will not fold my limps I will wait for death, beating my chest Parading the shield of honour, of valour No! I will not kneel down, I will die standing Let it know I am brave, the progeny of a brave I won't wait for death, in the darkness of night! So that it takes me, while no one sees and hears Never will I beg death, to spare me today To procrastinate, and donate more ages to me To make me bed-ridden, and mishandle me there And later on take me, roughing up my body Never! I will wait for it, under the clear sun Let this be my oath, to the earth, to the sky I will die standing, like Jesus Christ Until I resurrect, in a homecoming triumph! Wishing it offers me, fractional more years I will not wait for death, in a reclining respite I will go to it, so it doesn’t come for him (other Ethiopians) Let what comes come, I will not hide from it I will not wait sleeping, so death comes and takes me It will meet me standing, I myself will go to it I will not kowtow to death, out of a longing to live Never will I beg death, beseeching it to spare me I will never kneel down, I will die standing Let it know I am brave, the progeny of the brave!! Somalia's al-Shabab militants close UN aid offices
Abtigiis replied to xiinfaniin's topic in Politics
Actually, the Alshabab are doing better in tackling famine than the UN and the NGOs. Look at this facts: 6 regions were in famine catagory since August. Of these, 3 had been largely off-limit areas to humanitarians (Bay, Bakool and Middle Shabelle). UN and NGOs had better access in Mogadishu, Lower Jubba and Agoye IDPs. By November, three areas go out of famine catgory. Guess which ones? Bay, Bakool and M.Shabelle. Latest nutrition surveys show famine situation in Mogadishu IDPs (totally accessible) and where alledgely 500,000 people were fed every month by WFP alone. The working fifgure for the IDPs was 385,000. Now, a UN-sponsored survey shows there are only 180,000 IDPs (even this with a very inflated household size of 7.2 for IDP families -something that borders impossibility, given that IDP HH size is usually below the national avergae for non-displaced families). Now, the spin is underway under the slogan "to make sense of the new IDP figures vis-a-vis humaniatarian assistance provided so far Vs nutrition survey results". It is a total farce. Abu-Mansoor's policy of giving assistance to those who came to Baidoa and returning them immeditely to their farms led to bumper harvest and low food prices in few months times. Zack, if the UN and NGOs go out of Somalia today, no one will die because of that withdrawal. Last year, Somalia (according to the UN books) received 1 billion in humanitarian aid. Does it look like a country that got that much? No. Alshabab have better policy of feeding the people than the UN and NGos which inflate beneficiary numbers, and trigger displacement by creating IDP settlements. Everyone in Mogadishu knows that most IDP settlements are fake and are created by people benefitting from the humanitarian industry.
