  1. Ninkan waa laga badbadiyay. Bisinka!

I hope he stays out of SL politics. If he wants to help his land and people - our education sector needs improvement and the HE sector can do with development - he and all the other Somali Drs can do so much in that department but sadly dadkeena empty political rehtoric ayuunla macaan- qofkii dhaqaaqaba waa inuu minister noqdo.

Hagbad? I prefer savings account....I don't like to owe money, save and pay upfront.

I do the same but I've been told that hagbad is good for immediate (big) expenses - like if you can't wait a few months for that car or to get married / divorced iyo wax saas ah lol

  3. Lack of early education means Somalis have not grasped the concepts of turn-taking, waiting (playing nicely etc) -- maxaa naf la dhowri lahaa hadii mid walba KG lagalin lahaa at the age of 3. That said, islaamuhu are more civilised in their hagbad management, meel hakaga dhicina.

  4. Interesting preposition! Perhaps, there needs to be a discussion amongst the men, it would certainly be more helpful for the empowerment of Somali women / society - if once in a while, the few decent Somali men told their brethren to stop being such pigs. There are many kick *** Somali women out there, they may or may not call themselves feminists but the fact that you chose to ignore or dismiss their existence is rather telling-- malaha you should work on your condescending attitude ya Odey...

  5. hence the islamic twist Che - to balance things out, you know Islam places an emphasises play till the age of 7? It's things like television, internet, time with friends and setting high standards that I like about tiger mums.

    Guzel,

The UAE is great in many ways, but opportunities for expats are decreasing. Oman is similar - in fact Omanis are so humble and sweet, I felt very much at home in their land.

  6. To be honest, there are pros and cons to everywhere, Allah has made humans weak, so don't expect perfection anywhere. That, said, I personally would like my children to experience life here, there and everywhere. Our dhaqan and deen are integral compenents of who we are, I don't need to be at a specific place to be Somali or Muslim. However - it's things like crime rates, career opportunity, quality of life that determin where we live.

As for parenting, like Juxa said them most important thing is to be engaged parents. I would add, that you need to be very clear about what you want for your children. Then be slightly obsessed in ensuring that you lay the foundations for them and shut out anything that would undermine your plans for them - I'm all for 'tiger mothering /parenting' with an Islamic twist. :D

  7. What more do you want Muslims to do? Why should an entire peaceful community apologies / pay for the actions of a handful? Muslim Association of Britain made a statement within hours which I didn't think it was necessary as it did nothing to calm the EDL and racists who are always looking to blame 'effniks' and 'Muslems' for societies problems.

  8. Every day across Britain, it seems, there's a new and horrific revelation of sexual abuse: last week we had the guilty plea of veteran TV presenter Stuart Hall, who confessed to 14 cases of indecent assault against 13 girls, the youngest only nine years old.

Days earlier the possible scale of child abuse in north Wales children's homes was revealed. We now know there were 140 allegations of historical abuse between 1963 and 1992. A total of 84 suspected offenders have been named, and it's claimed the abuse took place across 18 children's homes.

But after the shock has subsided and we have time to reflect on these revolting crimes, the main question in most reasonable people's minds must surely be: what is it about white people that makes them do this?
