    Weird News

Heh. I was just about to post this story. Mainstream arabic news websites and forums have been abuzz with story for a few weeks. The whole issue of 'adult breast-feeding' is simultaneously risible and ridiculous. Abu Ishaq Al-Huwaini hurls invectives at people who argue that the breast-feeding should not be directly from the breast. Apparently, in his eyes, those people are not puritan enough. Rather, they are, he exhorts us, cravenly shying away from the pure sunnah so as to accomodate the sensibilities of non-muslims who would find such queer rituals worthy of pity and mockery. I mean think about this for a minute. The whole breast-feeding fiasco is based on some obscure hadith (sure, it's in Bukarhi, so what?).
  3. The odds are stacked against their favor. But they can still pull it off.

  6. Haatu, the expression is Latin not Spanish. Shakespeare immortalized this pithy line. Ceasar allegedly spoke these poignant words as Brutus, whom he thought was a close freind, committed an act of utmost perfidy, thrusting a dagger into his chest, or so the story goes. Oodweyne, I didn't mean to pile on sxb. My criticism is a tacit compliment. Your prose is pregnant in rich phrases, vast diction, poetic devices, and all the tools that a good writer needs. Unfortunately, it is all dwarfed by a cumbersome problem of style. I just find the way you stitch your sentences together rather curious and unconventional. At any rate, I have not lost my moral moorings. No treachery here, my freind.
  7. At the risk of sounding pedantic, I have to say that Oodweyne's english composition is blighted by punctuation pot-holes, egregious errors of syntax, long-windedness, and all manner of writing sins. His Somali composition, on the other hand, is less taxing and easily more readable.
  8. I was going to chalk up his vapidity and vulgarity to the indiscretions of youth, but it seems that this sanctimonious nincompoop is also a liar.
  9. Originally posted by Nur: As far as Islam is concerned, 2012 is a Christian Calendar date, nothing is special about it and it has no religious significance, I only posted it as attention humor for a more serious issue " Death and the after life". You claim that you do not give the least credence to the 2012 hoax, yet you are all too willing to peddle it, since fear is one the basic underpinnings of religion. Nevertheless, Planet Earth and its inhabitants have a finite purpose. Humans and their fragile planet have a limited life time, and no natural occurrence happens in vain nor out of Allah's knowledge and plan. You seem to know many extraordinary things. Although this phenomena has been a natural occurrence for billions of years, no one has ever recorded its burst peaks, Pure piffle. and if there were ever in the past any intense bursts of electro-magnetic pulses ( EMP) that could have reached earth ( 93 Million Miles), it would not have disrupted "Pharaohs Civilization", he used chariots to chase the oppressed Jews, not Predator Drones to chase the oppressed Muslims, Pharaoh's horses drowned in the Red Sea while chasing Oppressed Jews, I suppose that God works in mysterious ways. could it be that the EMP would render the drones that are killing innocent Muslims useless?. Today though we are the most electrical-power (and Fossil fuel, gas pumps) dependent "civilization" on earths history, a massive EMP would probably induce a very damaging current and voltage surge that can shut down all customer services and information flow, and like Katrina it will only take less than an hour to demote a Superpower to Zero Power! Really? Does God have to wait for the 11-year solar cycle to reduce a superpower to nothing? Whatever happened to omnipotence? Or are the laws of physics too binding? Needless to say, if you troubled yourself to read what astronomers and physicsts actually say about solar flares and the effect they have on electronic equipment, you would know that it is not too severe, given the available technology. Risks, of course, remain. Your exaggerations have more to do with wishful-thinking than scientific reasoning. Besides, if God does not reduce the US to nothing on 2012 - the probability for this fantasy scenario is virtually zero - will you then pin your hopes of widespread confusion and chaos on the next solar cycle? It goes without saying that wishful-thinking coupled with morbid fear are, indeed, symptomatic of the religious mind.
  10. ^ No need to strike a defensive posture sxb. It might be fashionable these days to play the irascible islamist but it's starting to become tedious. Despite your histrionics, Islam was not derided. This verdict is, by all reasonable accounts, either unfair (women are singled out), or downright preposterous (forbidding the enjoyment of a harmless pastime). The mullah's reasoning is clearly specious. No one said anything about Islam. You seem to have conflated both in your fit of excitement.
  11. Aren't the voters registered? Of course not. Otherwise, why would public officals worry that one person could cast more than one vote? Besides, how are Somaliland citizens distinguished from foreigners? Are there international election observers? All in all, I applaud Somaliland for trying to mimic the democratic procoess, however imperfect or flawed the methods.
  12. Originally posted by Haatu: Well I'm not telling any1 to do anything. All I'm saying is I don't know why just the ladies are being picked on. Do you think the disenfranchisment and marginalization of Saudi women is a mystery?
  13. Most Saudi (and muslim) women obviously won't heed the passionate preachments of this senile sheikh; even if, as Haatu stipulates, the verdict accords with the teachings of religion.
  14. What's the population of Somaliland, anyway? Reference would be appreciated.
  15. A leading Saudi scholar has issued a fatwa prohibiting Saudi women from watching the world cup. Saudi authorities have been mailing out a flier which summarizes this religious verdict. It reads: Question: What is the islamic ruling of watching the games for women, if she wants to watch it for fun and entertainment? Answer: " It is not permissible to watch the games because male players are usually semi-naked and show their thighs. Even some of their private parts may show through their tight clothing, which is very tempting to women. If women want to have fun and excitement, they can pray, read the Koran and all kinds of religious books." Really?
  16. NASA has consistently debunked the 2012 pseudo-scientific, end-times theory. But, of course, this won't allay the anxieities of the faithful and fearful. In fact, this has spurred a cottage-industry of conspiracy theorists claiming that NASA - and presumably other scientists - are in on this cosmic collusion. Indeed, the suggestibility of the human mind is unbounded. Only scientific illiteracy coupled with stupendous credulity can explain why such voodoo claims excite the imaginations of many people. Unfortunately, solar flares are not exactly the stuff of apocalyptic religious fantasies. Such natural phenomena follow well-understood patterns and processes. While it is true that intense solar flares can disturb radio communications and disrupt sattellite signals, and even effect local power outages, it is not the case that such solar events are capable of causing 'electromagnetic disruption of civilization', whatever that means. One made light of this nonsense, stating that the author of this fiction was probably someone who did not take enough science in school.
  17. If Oodweyne quietly skulks away, I'll string a stanza together. Otherwise, xiinfaniin has to take a second stab at a poem.
  18. Oodweyne is employing a well-known tactic of lesser poets - buying time. Not everyone can wax lyrical spontaneously. xiinfaniin, your poem is a very good first attempt by a neophyte. I'll write a more polished and varnished reply haddaad wax ku darto. To be instigated into a poetic duel, I have to be impressed a little.
  19. Qaafiyad nimaan aqoon hadduu, qaafka ka higgaadsho Maansadii qiimaha badnayd hadduu, qaafil ku ciyaaro Allaylehe quful waa in afka looga xidhaa, qoorta loo jaro'e Qiyaamaana cadaab kalaa sugayoo, qaadir baw qoraye Nimanyahow ma qaabilin waayadeer, qaarihii gabaye Waxase iga cadhaysiiyay quuqlahaan, qawl xumidiise Bal iga qorta xigmadaan afuufayaa , sida quraankiiye I know the display of bravado is unwarranted. But if rudy has the gall to call that a poem, I can outdo his pretense.
