Somaliland needs the rest of Somalia. It's not economically viable to break from the rest. The secessionist delusions aside. Somalia is one nation..

Well looking at the facts on the ground now, and the findings by many academic scholars, Somaliland is a far more viable state than Somalia.

Somaliland has a functioning government, burgeoning trade, strengthening links to international community and many more trappings of statehood.

Somalia on the other hand has been at the top of the failed states index for over a decade and unfortunately and sadly is incapable of feeding it's own population

XX, there will ne mo referendum or the South Sudan type of option. Somaliland is not South Sudan. All legitimate grievances should be settled and addressed correctly. A bit of maturity is required from our N-Western brothers.

Really? One would say that a negotiated settlement and supervised referendum requires more maturity than unilaterally declaring secession like Kosovo.....

  3. My poor, confused Duke. First off I love how you somehow manage to infuse generalities into all of your statements "Secessionists this, Seccessionists that" you do realize that the millions of citizens of Somaliland are capable of holding individual political views and stances on issues right? Hence the multi party system. Anyway I digress.

Moving on, you claim that "no journal reports anything without Siilanyu's consent" yet you've posted one article that apparently paints the nomination of Hassan Sheikh negatively which directly goes against his government's stance of welcoming the development:

    http://somalilandsun.com/index.php/regional/1440-somaliland-congratulates-new-somalia-president

" The government and people of Somaliland who have for a long time shared the pain of their brethren in Somalia, see the eelection of Hasan Sheikh as a prelude to peacefull co-existence, security and establishment of a functional government that would spearhead the election of the next president by universal suffrage as is the norm in Somaliland"

So which is it? Silanyo controls all the press in Somaliland or the more plausible and accurate case that there is a multitude of public opinions and diverse press in the country of Somaliland?

BUHODLE (Somalilandsun) – The Khatuumo secessionists have received a devastating kick.

The Khatuumo Militia Commander Col Mohamed Jama 'Dul-kasy' has renounced his allegiance to the secessionism after he formally embraced the Hagaltosie fronted peace accord in Buhodle.

According to the newly appointed Buhodle regional governor Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Mahmoud 'Harir', Col Dul-kasy official joined the peace process upon handing over his weapons to a joint administration and elder's team.

In a telephone interview with the state owned The Horn Tribune English, language newspaper an elated governor Harir said peace in Buhodle is now a reality.

Governor Harir, who became the senior most administration official to take control in the formerly volatile region last week, revealed that most of his activities to date pertained to the realization of peace and security in Buhodle through meetings with a diversified leadership and citizenry.

Read below the verbatim excerpts of the interview:

    Q. Governor what reception has your administration received in the region?

    A. Fantastic, all residents of Buhodle region from traditional leaders, Elders, Women and youth have been very welcoming.

    Q. What has been your main activities to date/

    A. As the foremost aim is to implement all aspects of the peace accord between president Silanyo and former SSC militia commander Hagaltosie, I have mainly been holding meetings with elders in pursuit of ensuring that the locals will uphold their part of the peace bargain.

    Q. What has been the result of your meetings so far?

    A. All the local leadership is firmly for peace thus very pro-Somaliland. It is important to inform that the meetings have been very fruitful, as all elders have vowed to ensure implementation of the Buhodle peace accord vis-à-vis the government.

In every meeting or during meet the people tours where everyone has informed of allegiance to Somaliland despite differences that led to armed skirmishes in the past. They have continuously revealed that they would have taken up the president Silanyo call for peaceful reconciliation if they were aware that their grievances would be accorded a fair hearing as prevails now.

    Q. Are there any armed militias still in Buhodle?

    A. Definitely None, after the signing of the peace accord in Hargeisa, all militias laid down their arms and disbanded to resume their normal peace time activities while others await absorption into any of the three national security forces as agreed.

    Q. If the militias are out who is responsible for law and order since the police force is yet to assume duties?

    A. Law and order is smooth, plans are at an advanced stage to deploy the regional police that left after prolonged nonpayment of salaries as well as then ensuing armed skirmishes between tribal militias and the national army.

    Q. What of the Khatuumo secessionists aligned militias known to have operated in Buhodle town and most areas of the region?

    A. Khatuumo state and aligned militias is a foregone issue, they are finished, completely finished.

As we speak, the former Commander of the Khatuumo militias Col Mohammed Jama Dul-kasy is sitting next to me, after accepting the futility of continued allegiance to the secessionist doctrine of Khatuumo.

The Colonel who is now firmly committed to the peace process as well as local and national development which he vowed to help implement at all costs when he handed over his weapons, in a symbolic gesture peace, to a joint administration and elders team in Buhodle town last Thursday.

    Q. Governor having achieved all these in less than a fortnight, what is your next course of action?

    A. My main priority now is to attain peace and security in the entire region, followed by the re-establishment of public service provision departments.

The entire Buhodle region which has for a number of years been denied public services due to the armed skirmishes that prevailed is in dire need of urgent services like health, Education among others.

The Horn Tribune: Thank you governor Mohamed Ahmed Mahmoud 'Harir'

    Governor: You are welcome

The safe atmosphere being experienced by residents of Sool region is as a result of the just concluded peace accord between the president H.E Ahmed Mahmoud Silanyo and the commander of Sool, Sanaag & Cayn (Ain)-SSC Militias, that is under implementation.

The Buhodle peace accord which was agreed upon by President Silanyo and Hagaltosie in Dubai late June has so far seen the government released over 60 former militias from the Mandera maximum prison with the SSC reciprocating with the release of four army officers after official signing of the accord in Hargeisa.

The army also vacated most of its frontline bases in Sool-joogto, Kalshale and Maigagle where the national army vacated its bases as part of the peace deal that also saw the SSC militias surrender their weapons to the army as a prelude to their absorption in the various national security forces.

During the tour of the vacated army bases area elders informed Hagaltosie and his delegation that they fully accept and support the peace accord for benefits have started to be enjoyed a short time after implementation was initiated.

A large number of Residents who have returned to their homes after the peace deal told the Commander Hagaltosie team that nothing would impinge on their support for the peaceful reconciliation between the central government and tribal militias.

The residents said there reasoning is in considering the fruits enjoyed now, major being return to their homes from IDP camps where they sleep without fear of becoming the grass that suffers when two bulls clash.

Nope, the majority of the town is clear as is who is the governor, it is without a doubt shared but not with Khaatumo folks.
    :)
Ceerigaabo is also shared but the majority is not Maakhir folks nor Khaatumo.

I love how people claim that Ceerigaabo is "shared". The city belongs to all its residents who are citizens of Somaliland, no matter what their tribal affiliation is. Don't believe me? Refer to the huge voter turnout in the city in the last presidential election. At the end of the day if the Somaliland flag flies there, government offices operate there, Somaliland police keep the peace and a Somaliland military garrison is based there, then it's clear who administers the city.

  6. Even though it's clearly obvious that you're trying to instigate a reaction with the title and subject of this thread, I'll humour you and answer your question.

First "Waqooyi Galbeed" is a defunct administrative divison of what is now the nation state of Somaliland, and that designation under represents the breadth of it's peoples and territory administered....but I'll let that pass.

Now on to the point. Self-determination always has and remains the primary goal of Somaliland and just because you perceive there to be less reportable news or postings on Somaliland doesn't diminish that fact. Due to sheer number of postings on the events occurring in Mogadishu and the positive developments coming from there, it is obviously the biggest news to come out of the region and therefore merits attention...I mean after 20 years of endemic instability any semblance of order and progress has to make the headlines. I for one welcome this news as it means more stable/reliable partners for Somaliland to work with and improved security for it.

Last but not least....it's August! Let Xaaji, Odweyne, NGONGE and the others work on their tan and relax...because we both know they'll be back to their old ways in no time.

  7. Once again A_Khadar intentionally posts a topic with an inflammatory title merely to act as click bait for the other members of the forum. At the end of the day diplomatic protocols and customs dictate that when the head of state of a country passes away, other governments send condolences as a means of highlighting the existing relationship between the nations. Not sure if A_Khadar or the others understand this but then again they have yet to grasp many of concepts of diplomacy and statecraft....among other things

It's a fool's errand to figure where one tribe begins and another ends but apparently its become the Khatumo supporters favorite pass time!

The fact that people like Mooge and Taleexi choose to organize themselves based on tribal sub-state identifications and not through the modern nation state paradigm show that their allegiances cannot evolve into the contemporary political discourse of today. Hopefully one day they will realize that state level political identifications have been eclipsing the tribal forms of organization and will continue to do so.

  9. DJIBOUTI- (Somalilandsun) – The Somaliland passport is a recognized travel document in Djibouti.

I am currently a guest at the Menelik Hotel in Djibouti after I entered the country on a Somaliland passport which was readily accepted by immigration officers without queries or anything.

My Djibouti sojourn that comes on invitation to cover an international event on behalf of the Somalilandsun and Dawan media Group started with doubts and arguments with colleagues.

Although I have a valid passport from another country, I decided to travel with a Somaliland passport thus test the recent deal entered upon by the Vice president Hon. Abdirahman Sayli and the president of Djibouti H.E Ismail Omar Gelle in which the SL passport was accepted as a valid travel document in Djibouti.

A number of people told me that I am wasting my time and money for Djiboutian are never to be trusted, "They are chameleons" many told me.

This I could not believe, wondering why president Gelle would cheat our VP. Instead of breaking my resolve the many deterrents gave me the impetus to use our passport which I proceeded to apply and actually received in a period of 6 hours.

The ease of getting the passport was facilitated by a letter from the managing editor of Dawan Media Group Mr. Mohamed Osman Mire "Sayid" and the Director General Ministry of Information Mr. Abdirashid Jibril Youssef.

Having then acquired my Somaliland passport I proceeded to DAALLO Airlines who charged me $230 that include $60 visa charge of which they are responsible for at the Djibouti end. I boarded the Daalo Boeing 737 airplane Berbera international airport on Friday at 8 am, only to receive the surprise of my life when the pilot informed that the ETA Djibouti international airport was in 25 minutes.

True to his/her words, at 8.20 it was announced that we were about to land at the DIA where the temperature was 24 degrees. That is when my real fears began, not because of the anticipated heat but fear of the immigration department whom I had been duly informed by the many unbelieving Thomas's in Hargeisa that they will put me in prison where I will most probably die of heat.

"Oh yee doubting Thomas's the SL passport is truly a valid document in Djibouti"

To make a long story short, it was easier for me to process a visa at the Djibouti international airport than bearers of European union ones, thus Kudos to President Gelle and VP Sayli.

This achievement is thanks to a deal that was agreed upon by President Gelle and VP Sayli in late June during an official visit to Djibouti by a delegation led by the VP.

    Other agreements reached then included

    Enhancement Commercial and security relations

President Gelle to solicit foreign investors for Somaliland

    Exchange of consular officers etc
