  1. Today after Fajr prayer I read suratul Haaqah(the reality), a makkan surah. The first section is about the hereafter and the second about the Quran being a revelation from Allah and Muhammad (SAW) being a true messenger of Allah.I hope i keep on track of reading the Quraan every morning Insha-Allah.

  2. Caaqil,I know there are emergency law that are put in place by the Kenyan government to restrict the movement of the inhabitant of that region.Twenty years ago if you may remember the Kenyan government, tired of Somali interclan conflict, took a certain clan of that population and tortured them to death (Wagalla masacre).I am not in any way defending such atrocities committed by Kenyan government.I beleive that justice should be served to those poor orphans whose dads were stripped naked in the plain field. But here is my objection to the leaders of that region. They have the power to raise their voice and demand justice as they sit in that parliament.Instead of demanding their god given rights they all look after their interests and wellbeing of their family members. When you visit places like Nairobi today you will witness this so called leaders from that region living in villas and their kids attending private schools while the poor whom they suppose to represent are without good health care system and schools. One wonders to question himself whom to blame for this state of helplesness.Should you blame the government for not providing the best it could offer or should you blame this fat politicians who are supposed to represent them!.Today people from that region can not blame the government for not inviting them to participate in the development of their province. They ought to blame themselves for electing inefficient leaders.Do you remember when Kenyan government invented the somali identification card specifically for the Somalis?.Who were the people behind this racist identification card ?They were the So called leaders of that region who happen to be Somali!.Thinking that they will restrict other Somalis from moving in from Somalia they come up with this idea. I think there is no great deal to be said of this leaders and the region. Why would Kenya be interested in people who discriminate against each other?.

The economy part, you are right that NFD is where great deal of hides and skin are transported from. They do contribute a great deal of meat to the economy from their lonely doted province in the Kenyan map!.The livestock business is not something predictable since it takes one big drought to wipe out the animals.I hope you don't misunderstand me for being negative on the province.I lost hope and touch with the region long time ago.

**Thanks for the thesis info i will check it if i can find it****

  3. The piece was a good read.I think what we need to ask ourselves is what is the purpose of education? Perhaps something immediately practical(job training?)?Something currently of interest like politics? or something to draw out the common humanity in all of us?.From Plato to Locke and Dewey to contemporary culture the strugle has raged between the theoratical life-the life of the mind-and the life of experience. What will education contribute to the society if it lost the sight of its original aim of knowing the world we live in.The engineer in the story points out that had the public paid attention to his paper this would not have occured. Before putting his pages close to our nose we need to view the Somali problem within the frame of present. Its not enough to know knowledge for the sake of creating argument. We need critical thinkers in our society that will emanicipate us from the oppression of constraint freedom and undermined social justice!.

  4. Caaqil Kenyan-Somali conflict during the British colonial period was about principle of teritorial integrity and self-determination.Territorial integrity on Jomo Kenyatta government who were scared of dismemberment of newly acquired state and self-determination for the Somalis.Caaqil, My grandfather was a British soldier who was relocated to NFD in the early 1930,s.He took part in the demonstration to convince the British to allow the NFD to join the rest of Somalia. The British failed people like my grandfather when they failed to recognize their wishes.People demonstrated all over somalia especially places like Berbera where there was a British consulate. This was all done when Somalis were united and nationalistic. This was the time when the name Somali was able to get you the free ride of trust and walaltinimo. The somali government tried even to break ties with British when they formed the seven Kenyan province(NFD).Now when i look back at the effort of people like my grandfather who were nationalistic by blood the only thing that comes to my mind is thanks god that my grandfather and others never succeeded in their succesion agenda.Today Somalia is at a stage where it needs not to finger point(my favorite description of my people)all their problems at external enemies.Kenya and Uganda were the first country who imediately pledged their support to the nascent somali adminstration that was formed. Here you are both of you guys telling me the only reason Kenya did what they did was because of economic interest.Offcourse every countries will want a neighbour that it can do business peacefully with!.Caaqil you mentioned NFD contributing to the Kenyan economy without any returned incentives. The whole province is not that much different from Somalia. They are suffering from tribal animus just like their brothers.Yes there are some injustice done to them but can't they overcome this injustice with emphasing on self reliance and hardwork. The biggest tax contribution they bring to Kenyan government is tax collected from Khat.Isn't that shameful when you don't emphasis the value of education and instil that in your kids. The contribution made by other small cities in Kenya is more than what the whole province contribute as a GDP.You mentioned that Kenya doesn't want Somalia peace because of the remittance money Somalis contribute to the economy. This is the most absurd notion i heard from someone. How will a country want to keep you in limbo just because of couple make shift shops you contributed to their economy ?(Garisaa lodge in Eastleigh).

**I am busy now but i promise to contribute more over the weekend-Insha-Allah***

  5. ^^^^Waiting for your verdict mate!

  6. The above research is theoratically plausible and that it is not mutually exclusive across the board. It is logical that when one partner stay at home the breadwinner will become more productive to increase the income .Social scientist tend to favour married men on economic scale.Their case rest on the premise that high earning men tend to be attractive to women(are women greedy?).There is a variety of reasons social scientist give to support their hypothesis why married men earn more than singles. One of the reasons being married men like Ngonge will not expend time and resources in search of potential mate,he will instead reap economic benefit from his living arrangement with she who must be "obeyed" :D .

  7. If you were that immigration poodle who interviews asylum seekers will you have approved this girl's story? :D

I am 18 years old. My mother paid an agent to take me from Somalia to England two years ago but the agent left me in a street in Bristol. He said he would come back for me but he didn't. A stranger took me to stay with a Somali family. I left Somalia because it is dangerous there; soldiers use to come to our house and my mother was scared that I would get raped or killed. I didn't know I would end up in England. My stepfather treated me and my mother badly; he used to bring soldiers back to our house in Somalia to frighten us. I don't know whether he is still alive.

I last heard about my mother a year ago; I heard that she had escaped to Mombasa, Kenya. I have not had any contact with my mother since I left Somalia and I wouldn't know how to find her now. My social worker is going to get the Red Cross to try to find my mother for me.

Now I am a single mother and receive help from social services' asylum social workers in Bristol. They helped to find a place for me and my son to live in.

A lot of Somali people in my area don't speak to me because I have a baby and am unmarried. When I was pregnant I used to cry about what people would say about me but I talked to my social worker a lot and then I was brave. I am pleased with my son; I'd like him to go to school when he is older.

I also want to go to work but I am not allowed because the Home Office refused my asylum case. They say I am not Somali, so now I don't know when I may be forced to leave England. It is hard work not to think about what is going to happen to us.

If I went back to Somalia it would be difficult because there may be violence. My son is not of my clan, Reer Hamar, and life is difficult for this clan there. My son will be Reer Waqoyi clan.

Being an asylum seeker is not good because I read bad things that people say about us. I wish sometimes I could go to work and earn money for myself and make new friends. I could buy some nice things for me and my son and go on the bus to lots of places. Then I wouldn't feel so different from everybody else.

In September I celebrated Eid, the Somali Christmas, with my friend. We bought sweets for each other. If there wasn't any trouble in Somalia I would have a big celebration with my mother and lots of friends. When Eid comes in Somalia we buy new clothes, sweets and presents for our good friends and family. Everyone in the area joins in and celebrates together.

In Somalia we didn't go out when it started to get dark at night. I am not scared to go out in England but it is lonely without my family. Eid is different here because nothing happens in the street to show people that we celebrate Christmas. I am glad to be safe though.

  8. This kind of relationship could only be 'sustained' if one person has an interest in the other; there is no other way they could be friends and just hang about!

I don't agree with the above assumption Mr.Viking.Yes we men "undress" women mentally at the first eye contact :D but i doubt if there is any interest once we draw the boundry line.

  9. Scholars as well as the public continue to argue about what, exactly, went wrong with the muslim and Arab world in the scientific world. There may never be an agreement but it is idle to pretend that lack of putting emphasis on science education in the muslim world plays no role in its present decrepitude.I am not posting this guys article to mockingly look down upon Islam or Arabs.Last Sunday i attended a lecture in my local mosque talking about the weakened state of Islamic world in science.Unfortunately the lecture did not turned out to be positive after some people disagreed with the lecturer.Allah knows better if the guy was correct(i will leave that as it was).I want you to read this article and see if it make sense to you.I agreed with the guy on certain element of his observation. Science in the Arab world

  10. Good news is, we still have a season next season

That is so long as Tim Duncan, Ginobili, and Parker are around.Pistons the most battled-tested group of veterans in the league won't go away neither :D

  11. Caaqil,Peeved by your response about Kenya i decided to respond to you.Caqil,Unlike some previous attempt at Somali nation building, this particular transitional government included most of the people who "mattered" to somali politics, you name it,the warlords, the elders, the clan leaders, and even some "intellectuals".I think it will be unfair for you to charge Kenya with the popular Somali sentiment of finger pointing "Kenya doesn't want the peace of Somalia".Somalia's problem is not Kenyan's goal,Kenya has been for a long time Somalia's external life support.Kenya has been that Doctor who putted 24/7 at the attendance of it's frail patient.Somalia has been unenviable burden to Kenya ever since the collapse of Somali government. The expense of hosting a vast number of delegates like that created many problems for Kenya.Kenya decided to host Somalia out desperation to save Somalia from its wreckage.Yes there are for sure some of the neighbouring countries who have their own particular agenda in hosting any Somali reconstruction effort but i think Kenya is not one of them .It is not Kenya that violates this agreements between the warlords,it is the Somalis themselves.Unlike Ethiopia,Kenya has no history of fomenting discord in Somalia.I think Kenya is a honest peace broker in Somalia. The economy issue about Kenya depending on Somalia is baloney!.Kenyan economy has been always independant of Somalia(check the difference between the two country). It is Somalia that failed to disarm itself and stop the influx of weapons.

**excuse me folks i got carried away by nationalistic itch***

  12. OLOL, i think i made it clear that the reason i am uncritical on the current government is because of my inexperienced in Somali politics.I made it clear that we are not at a position to finger point at the moment with the country sitting on the brink of environmental disaster. If we want to solve the problem, the first step will be to remedy the problem before we got to the generators of the waste. The negative environmental impact exarcebated the plight of already fragile environment.I think it will be of great importance for the good of the citizen to first solve the environmental problem and then may be bring to justice these eco mafias. The current situation of Somalia where principle is trade off with tribalism will not bring any justice any time soon but we can stop the spread of any major life threatening environmental emergency.I think what any Somali government need to do is to address any major environmental and human health concern before we can court marshall everyone in the government. It will take a time before any backed solid proof will be brought against this eco mafias turning the claimant nothing more than an empty loud vessels.
