Student Intern Position Available

for National Primary Care Week 2004.

 

Background

 

National Primary Care Week is an annual effort to encourage health professions students to come together to learn about primary care and its

importance to underserved communities. It will take place for one week in October 2004. AMSA and NPCW student leaders at allopathic and osteopathic

medical schools and other health professions schools will be working in conjunction with the local Area Health Education Centers (AHECs) to

celebrate NPCW in ways that meet the interests and needs of the individual schools and their communities. Interns are needed to assist with planning on the national level.

 

Responsibilities

 

Working in conjunction with the National Primary Care Week staff at AMSA,the student intern will have the opportunity to make contributions to the

initiative in the following ways:

1-* Identify student coordinators at each of the health professions schools to be responsible for their school's NPCW activities and

maintain student leader database.

2-* Assist with requesting governor's proclamations and supportfrom local Area Health Education Centers (AHECs).

3-* Develop resource kits/website planning materials that the student leaders can use to plan their NPCWs.

4-* Assist in the design and maintenance of the NPCW page on the

AMSA website.

5-* Help create weekly NPCW newsletters and announcements

6-* Seek support for NPCW from primary care organizations,health professional societies, and other student organizations.

7-* Offer administrative and PR support to the local studentleaders.

 

Qualifications

 

The applicant should be a medical or health professions student with an interest in primary care. The applicant should possess excellent written and oral communication skills - there may be a significant amount of phone work.

Knowledge of Excel and/or Access is a plus. Self-direction and creativity are, of course, encouraged. Position available for up to 12weeks. We will work with your availability.

 

Location

 

AMSA headquarters in Reston, VA (a suburb of Washington, DC )

 

Compensation

 

350 per week; housing may be provided if necessary.

MEDICAL SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS to African Americans

 

Please pass this on to any African American who may be interested in a

free medical degree. Washington University in St. Louis, the Medical

School, now ranked number 2 (along with Baltimore's John's Hopkins

University Medical School) has scholarships to award to bright black

Americans. The students that are chosen will be awarded full tuition for

4 yrs - $30,000.00 per year plus $2,500.00 stipend.
