  1. Horn,

An old adage comes to mind, "Measure twice, cut once." We are in this for the longterm saaxib, let us make sure we do it right.

If I may correct you, its Geedi's administration. And he seems to be a bit more decisive as of late; he has setup these 3 government delegations to deal with the relocation and coordination with foreign donors. He is also the person that has pushed the idea of the government setting up HQ in the capital rather than Baidoa. As Haji Muse might say the shoes fit him rather well... :D

Bari, it has great opportunity to be a political buffer zone to reconcile any problems occuring between their relations to the north and their neighbors to the east.

Perhaps that is true. It would be all the more reason to give full consideration by both parties involved. Do you know if there is any timeline's being thrown around?

I believe I would be for, because hey what can Cabudwaq, Dhabat, and Balanbale lose but gain more political and trade opportunities?

My sentiments exactly. But there are several issues the Puntland government/people are currently dealing with, such as:

    -Tsunami efforts

    -New government(transition)

    -Western border issue(w/Somaliland)

    -Recovery from drought/floods

    -Financial mismanagement

These problems will be inherited by those in Cabudwaq and surroundings; on their otherside of the coin, these might be viewed as opportunities for them to bring new ideas to the table on how to deal with some of those issues noted above.

Local leaders, elders, business community and people in those areas will have to decide what is in their best interest. Let us see how this plays out in the coming months.

  5. Horn,

The 'buffer' you are speaking of does not really make sense to me, as we will still have a very large border with our S. Mudug neighbours. Although it should be noted that it has been fairly peaceful since 1993 peace agreement. I do believe it would be a good decision as this joining together would improve relations. What say you? For or against?

  6. Nationalist,

Somali governments(regional or national) and corruption seem to go hand-in-hand. The best we can hope for is a reduction(somewhat) in the levels.

    Duke,

    M. Xaashi will certainly be remembered fondly. I truly respect the manner in which he handled himself after the results were announced. We Somalis need more leaders like him.

His comment afterwards,"...waa walaalkay waana u hambalyaynayaa...."

  7. Congrats to Pres. Cadde Muse

What news to awaken to! Must say I was hoping for the incumbent to win, however, the process was fair and open,--so I can't complain too much.

It seemed Xaashi had an excellent support base to start with but was not able to build upon it,--either by winning over those parliamentarians or making side-agreement(s) with other candidates.

As for the long-awaited fairy tale recognition, that train has come and gone in my view. Duke and I,( :D ) are here to wave it goodbye and good-speed, while others are left scrambling to get on the caboose. I just hope the Ms. Edna Adan has brought her pair of Nike runners. :D
