  1. lol @ doing the dog... good to hear weird Canadian slang being used...hah -sigh-

I heard the English version of the Joke and I didn't think that was funny... and the Somali one is 3 sub notches below not funny... just weird.

I don't know many typical Somali mothers diaspora or not that would do that.

  2. Here's a couple of Canadian sayings that I think are weird especally this one:

Your friend calls you on the phone asks what your doing.

The reply in a lot of rural Canadian towns is

"Oh, I'm f*#king a dog." which means I' doing nothing.

And out in the praire towns of you ask for directions to the next town a lot of the times the answer you get is "well a far as the crow flies...."

  3. put those portly pets on the BARF ( biological, animal, raw food diet)

We use to do this in Somalia without the existance of pet foods. ( which contain taited gluten from China)

  4. I would teach my kids about their heritage in tribal and clan wise( but not in a way that this tribe is stronger, superior).

However, I would teach them they are Somali first.

I think because a lot of us in the diaspora are still getting over the after effects of clanism as tool for separating a people ( that are very homogenous). Some of us are still a little wary about it.

Tribalism and Clanism can be something to teach as long as personal biases or suberversion does get in the way. It can be taught with a post modernist approach where we look at it abstractly and think that use to be us 10 years ago.

Look at other clan-based societies that banned the "clan talk" such as the Scots and now it's coming back, but only as an awareness of their past. Which is pretty harmless.

  5. I went to the Daft Punk concert last night and it was beyond amazing ... they haven't invented a word for that kind of amazing yet but as a result I am so tired.

  6. What I dislike most about weddings is the wedding video. Which is produced by the next week.

And you are like I was there I don't need to watch.

I don't dislike weddings I just think they are very weird!

To me weddings are like the mating rituals of the human. And it feel like verbal mating, that we are all playing witness to.

Because of the intimate nature and a little part of me feel weirded out by this.
