    Football fans fake air emergency

    _40827912_plane_ap203b.jpg

A chartered plane carrying nearly 300 Gambians faked a fuel emergency to land in time for a football match in a youth tournament in Peru, officials say.

The plane should have landed in the capital, Lima.

However, when the fans realised they would be late for the game, the crew radioed the Peruvian authorities to say the plane was low on fuel.

The plane then made an emergency landing in the northern city of Piura, where the game was taking place.

    Dedicated followers

The Gambian fans, dressed in national colours, were allowed to disembark and watched their team beat Qatar 3-1 to qualify for the quarter-finals in the Fifa championships.

Football fever has swept The Gambia since their under-17 team beat pre-tournament favourites Brazil last Saturday in their first game in any world championships.

Gambian newspaper Daily Observer says the group's trip to Peru had been delayed by a week and they had been forced to watch the historic victory over Brazil on television at home.

However, their celebrations could be dampened by the reaction of Peruvian officials.

Thinking the plane's problem was real, the Peruvians had declared a red alert and scrambled the emergency services.

The Gambians' plane has now been impounded, and the airline could face penalties.

"It truly was a scam," said Betty Maldonado, a spokeswoman for Peru's aviation authority, CORPAC.

She said the plane had been chartered by Gambian President Yahya Jammeh and had entered Peruvian airspace "without permission".

  5. I run to some chick the other day, who I thought was a maryoley cuz of her cute face..lol. Anyhow, she happened to be from that part of Africa. Right after she told me she's married LOL..we've talked about the genocide. while I shared how ours as well took place and on. She did mentioned how so many ppl were saved by Muslim neighbors while the Christians were either doing damage for themselves or directing the militias wherever they cover.

She told me her brother/sisters who was saved in a mosque, converted to Muslim Maansha Allah, after she shared other crazy stories, I told her the lunch was on me lol.

I personally wished these types of stories were publicized/talk about by the world media, especially in western world..but then that wouldn’t happen cuz of them koofyadyar lol

    African success in UK highlighted

    Somalis in London

Most African immigrants live in London

African-born immigrants in Britain are doing better economically than many other migrants, a major new survey shows.

The report, by the Institute for Public Policy Research, however showed that only 12% of the Somalis living in Britain are employed compared to just over 81% of the South Africans, 73% of Zimbabweans and 61% of Nigerians.

The Born Abroad report showed that over half of Britain's population growth in recent years could be attributed to immigration.

South Africans and Kenyans top the list of African countries included.

    Debate reignited

The study, based on the national census for the 10 years up to 2001, showed that the biggest increase in migrants from Africa during the period came from Somalia and Zimbabwe.

According to the report, new immigrants make up a larger proportion of the immigrant population than they did in 1994.

Forty-two percent of immigrants are based in London, which took almost half of the increase between 1991 and 2001.

The report also highlighted the need for policymakers to ensure that Britain makes the most of the benefits immigration brings, and tackles the related challenges efficiently and effectively.

However, it has also reignited the debate on immigration - with an increase of almost 2% in the number of foreign-born people living in Britain and without an indication of how many illegal immigrants there may be.
