    ^^ The PM is working very hard I must admit. I think if the ARS delegates get the impression that promised withdrawal will take place as planned on a set day, that can pave the way for possibilities. But don't bank of Yey's time running out any time soon.

    ^^I note your skepticism to AP's mapping system but it is good to give the man his due credit. He has the creativity and expertise to be our map maker, does he not?

     

    What I am trying to say is that despite his earler maps which you might not agree with, he can make new maps if required. If you are trying to piece together a country's history, you'll need new relevant maps to be made to create a geographical history as well. This I am sure he can do if the needed information is provided to him, no?

    ^There was no Somaliland 'encroachment' into Maakhir. It was a made up story. If there was such as thing, why didn't you hear of it since then?

     

    PS: For Maakhir president to have spoken would have only made such reports seem genuine, which they were not. The silence was calculated my dear friend.

    This is beautiful, Adam. Resourceful information. Have you thought of doing some research along this time line and piece together a history of Somalia?

     

    I have been thinking of doing so while I had access to historic materials but that time has gone. I sure would love to see someone do that. Should be interesting as a project, and a book might come out of it as a result.

     

    PS: If I could only get access to materials!

    Explorers count cost of volatile governments

    As Camec and White Nile have discovered to their cost, holding the rights to explore in countries with volatile governments does not always count as much of a guarantee.

     

    Range Resources, an oil explorer in a breakaway northeastern region of Somalia known as Puntland, floated on AIM in October at 22p. Yesterday it plunged 4¼p to 10¼p after its Australian-listed shares were suspended pending a statement from the government of Puntland “clarifying its relationship” with the Somali Government in Mogadishu. Puntland, which has been autonomous since 1998, insists that exploration rights belonging to African Oil, Range’s partner, are protected, but it is not clear whether the transitional federal government of Somalia agrees.

     

    Camec, the explorer founded by Phil Edmonds, the former England cricketer, rose 1¼p to 50p as it completed a deal to form a joint venture in the Democratic Republic of Congo with Dan Gertler, the entrepreneur. However, Mr Edmonds’s other venture – White Nile – eased 2½p to 35¼p after it said that there was still no progress on establishing exploration rights in Sudan. Instead, it is taking a 49 per cent stake in Camec Kenya in return for funding half its costs.
