  1. Gimme a break!

I bet the journalist got paid to write that crap by the so-called Somaliland Diaspora movement...Much like the episode on the BBC whereby they showed a street light in downtown Hargaisa! ...ooh a street light..!!! ...scary!

Wake up n smell tha coffee..its gettin late..

  2. This theme of "qabiil is what destroyed our country," that's been circulating around lately is really pathetic. The Somali Republic as we knew it was NOT destroyed by qabiil or qabiils. It was destroyed by ignorance. Period!

Like the brother above has stated, qabiil can be used positively in any number of ways. Qabiil has been around and will continue to be forever. We just gotta use it wisely instead of using it in a hurtful or negative way.

Either way, I truly disagree with this notion that qabiil destroyed Somalia. Somalia was destroyed by bad leadership and pure ignorance on the part of the population.

    Peace...

  3. Salaams, everyone

The mere fact that Somalis adapt so easily has become a shocking, and often dissappointing, trend. Shaadia, I've seen everything you've noted above in my city. While I will not generalize, many Somalis have adapted to Western culture and accepted Western ideals as their norm. Like opinionated states, its between them and Allah. My philosophy is simple: keep you're family in check. Period!

To paraphrase my feelings on this subject, I'll use a statement a friend of mine was said: "Soomaali si qaldan ay u il bexeen." When you understand that, you understand the nature of Somalis in the West!

    Peace n Love

  4. Hey, yo'll..

I think people can be 'nasty' but no one is UGLY..tha person u consider to b ugly looks fine to anotha person..rememba that..

Secondly, like someone else mentioned above, this 'i'm a queen syndrome' that's goin around needs to ease down a bit..if a girl gets hit on, she should b flattered instead of loggin on tha Net n discussin it..

P.S. funny how many females responded..I suppose y'll must have tha syndrome in ya genes..syke! :D

    peace n love..

  5. Good question, brotha. I think we, as Somalis, are patriotic but in a twisted type of way. I think, generally speaking, we have our priorities n loyalties all mixed up. Our first n foremost loyalty lies with tha clan, which immediately destroys this theme of patriotism. However, I do think there are very many patriotic Somalis. You need only to look at Somaliland and the people there; how they're helping each other in every way n continue to contribute to form a fluent n solid society.

So, patriotism is there but is supplemented by a lot of negative energy. That's the prob.

    Hope my comments helped.. smile.gif

  6. An excellent question!

I think that - like the above people have stated - everything to life has its ups and downs. Culturally and religiously, we're 100% better off back in Somalia. But in the matters of education, healthcare, safety, etc, - i.e. the things a majority of Somalia today doesn't have - we're better of here, in the Diaspora.

HOWEVER, the Diaspora is what each and every individual make it to be. The strength of one's Iman and ties to his/her culture determines the outcome of one's coping in a foreign/Christian environment. May Allah bless us all!

  7. For the pro-democracy people, I wonder why you choose to ignore the perils that this notion of 'democracy' has caused across the African continent. In search of this European ideal, African governments have ended up becoming even more corrupt than, let's say, governments who practice socialism. I think that the solution to the Somali problem is within us. We're a freedom loving people who uphold our kinship ties with blood. If these to criterion are protected, then the solution should come easy.

Islam is ALWAYS the solution. The question is: do we have the necessary Iman to follow the words of Allah and his prophet Mohamed (SCW)?
