    We can never ever say Idil Ibrahim is not a muslim unless she commits shirk, because that's the only thing that takes you outside the fold of Islam. Everything else is considered a sin. Some sins are grave and serious (such as killing, rape, adultry etc) while others are minor (such as swearing, not wearing the hijab etc).

     

    Unless she has come out and stated she is no longer a muslim like that Ayan Hirsi, then we must believe she is a muslim sinning.

    However she like many of us was forced to scatter around the world and now we intermingle with hundreds of different ethnic groups and nationalities. Why be surprised that relationships will form between Somalis and these ethnic groups? There are Somali guys who are dating women that have Buddhist and Hindu backgrounds; religions they continue to observe. Does this surprise me? Not really, these guys either grew up in Indian dominated communities, or are into things like Martial arts.

     

    I don't see the point in badmouthing these individuals when they have not committed a single crime on a fellow human being. Everything else is between them and Allah swt, and nobody else! Similarly
    Idil has not committed a single crime
    , to see her being badmouthed like that is hypocritical, when that same individual was praising
    actual criminals
    on a different topic, hence my anger.

     

    Idil is a great asset for our often misrepresented and demonised community, for she has the passion and knowledge to provide a voice for Somali-diasporans, a void the likes of Axmed, Rampage and Alpha-blondy will never fill, as they are too consumed with "who's dating who" or "revoking the Somaliness card" than trying to uplift our people.

    BTW: girlfriend/boyfriend relationships were common in prewar Somalia, and very much part of what could be considered in hindsight as young Somali Urban culture, so the culture you're referring to is not monolithic.

    Correct, but she has probably comitted a major sin and was planning to commit a major sin with this non muslim man.

     

    The reason why people are criticising her is because she was in a haram relationship.

     

    Oh and as much as I like your thread in the other section, don't talk rubbish. It wasn't common to have a boyfriend/girlfriend relationships before the war broke out.

    What a load of nonsense. If a similar thread was created on a black forum, I bet you it would 1394 pages long. The crimes posted on here are also committed by whites, but also the African American community. You think a murder doesn't occur in the black ghettos in America? Who do you think started pimping? Murder, Drugs, Rape is notorious within the African American community.

     

    These Somalis posted on here are the bad apple or the black sheep of the community.

     

    What you need to understand is that no community is perfect. No community has members where they don't commit crime.

    BBC 3 (in the UK) is currently auditioning a TV role for a British Somali male between the ages of 18>24.

     

    BBC 3 has already completed filming for the first programme in Somaliland and is now seeking to film a British Somali youth, who hails from the Somali region of Puntland and has family relatives living in Puntland.

     

    The purpose of the programme is to shows the difference between life as a British Somali and life living in northern Somalia and which country will the individual (after his experience in visiting Puntland) prefer?

     

    Filming will begin in this summer of 2011 and this is a great opportunity for individuals seeking a career in media/presenting. All costs/expenses shall be covered by the BBC.

    I was reading this thread and I was surprised by how many mixed Somalis there are. In the thread below, there was people posting who claimed to be Half Somali, Half .....Japanese, Chinese, English, Swedish, Norwegian, American, Afghan, Irish, Italian, Brazilian, Phillapino, Mexican, Arab Spanish, Dutch, Scottish, Lebanese etc. I could go on and on. A lot of them seemed to have retanied their faith (massallah) and a bit of the languagebut some of them complained that some somalis wouldn't accept them, which I think is quite sad :(

    Do any of you guys know any mixed Somalis? Growing up in Britain, the only mixed Somali I've met was a half Somali, half Yemenis kid I played football with.

     

    Heck, my kids in the future could be mixed :cool:
