1000 posts later. 2 years and 3 months or 823 days. My 1000th post. wow how time flies when you're bustin' chops. I want to take this auspicious milestone to recognize the time I spend in here. Some jokes, some culture and a few fights. I'm surprised I haven't been fired for spending my working hours on SOL. Lots of good times and bad times, but that's what makes it so special. So to all the people I've ticked off in the past and the ones that got on my nerves, Cafis, let bygones be bygones. Big thanks to everyone for a colorful 823 days as a Nomad. I value the diversity and know that we'd be as boring a Polish people if we all thought alike. I've decided to use my 1000th post as a shout out to the Old farts and New blood and Support the spirit of Juxa's season of brotherhood and midnimo. I'm looking forward to the next 1000 inshallah. P.s. It's back to business as usual.

You don't want to give them something they'll use up and throw away. You want something that has should last for years without losing value or meaning. Something thats not gender specific. I suggest a framed Sura or Dua.

Let's be real here The guy's are trying to find a domestic super model and Gals are trying to find a young, whipped millionaire. This is what we get for living in the times of TV dinners and Drive through banking, No one wants to put in Work. Guys: You should be looking for women with an open mind....She has the 'potential' to become all you want her to become. Ladies: You should find a guy with focus and direction....You can't expect to meet him wealthy but you can help him become wealthy.

I think the most Ironic thing here is that the Sharia tribunals were not even suggested by a muslim. The idea was brought forward by Ontario attorney general Marion Boyd....and it is being fought against by so-called muslims who want to keep Islamic law out of their new, western lifes.

Imagine a society in which individuals are ordered not to wander down to the neighbourhood church, synagogue or mosque to ask the spiritual leader to resolve a personal dispute. That couldn't happen here -- or could it? Quebec's National Assembly has declared, in effect, that Muslims in the province do not have that right. Prompted by a secular Muslim Liberal, Fatima Houda-Pepin, its members voted unanimously Thursday to condemn efforts to open Islamic tribunals in Quebec or the rest of Canada. This declaration is not, thank goodness, of any legal force. Muslims may still ask their local imam to help them solve their disputes with one another. But it is a warning to observant Muslims: Discard your extreme religious notions and be Canadian. Like everyone else. That's a strange and needlessly hostile message for a pluralistic society to send. "There's one rule of law in Quebec," Premier Jean Charest said. Exactly. And that rule -- shared by all freedom-loving societies -- is that there be no prior restraint of free expression, religious or otherwise. What makes this whole exercise so inflammatory is that Ms. Houda-Pepin suggested there is a kind of international Muslim conspiracy at work, targeting Canada for a religious makeover. If so, it's not a very effective conspiracy. There is no concrete proposal to set up an Islamic arbitration panel in Quebec. Yet Ms. Houda-Pepin warns that Muslims in Canada will soon want their own system of criminal law. This is fear-mongering, pure and simple. No legislature has the right to screen religions for extremism and pronounce on which of them may exercise their fundamental rights. Recall that Catholics are this country's biggest religious group, at 43 per cent of the population, and that they do not permit women in the priesthood. So Canadians may wish to be careful about seeking to limit religious expression to protect women's rights. There's no doubt that Islamic rule in places such as Saudi Arabia, parts of Nigeria and the Taliban-ruled Afghanistan of the 1990s have been full of horrors for women. But do Quebec's legislators fear that a sharia tribunal in Canada would recommend the stoning of adulterous women, or automatic custody to fathers in divorce? The stoning would be a crime under Canadian law, and the automatic custody for fathers would have no legal validity in Canada. There is a legitimate concern that vulnerable women -- those who are not aware of their rights, who do not speak English or French or who are cowed by the men around them -- will be pushed toward tribunals that will be unfair to them. That's why Ontario, where an Islamic group proposed setting up its own arbitration panel, appointed feminist Marion Boyd to consider the idea. Ms. Boyd astutely recommended new safeguards for the province's 1991 arbitration law, which already required that any arbitration panel treat the parties "equally and fairly." She would add a requirement (for all parties, not just Muslims) to obtain independent legal advice, or at least sign a waiver. Further, mediators and arbitrators would need to certify that each participant entered the arbitration voluntarily. If a decision did not reflect the best interests of any children affected, it could be set aside by a court. Arbitrators in family-law and inheritance cases would have to provide summaries of every decision (without identifying information) to the government, to be made public on request. Nothing would be hidden. Quebec's unanimous declaration is unfriendly to Muslim believers, is poorly thought out and lacks respect for religious faith and pluralism. It is un-Canadian. Source

Once upon a time two brothers who lived on adjoining farms fell into conflict. It was the first serious rift in 40 years of farming side by side, sharing machinery, and trading labor and goods as needed without a hitch. Then the long collaboration fell apart. It began with a small misunderstanding and it grew into a major difference, and finally it exploded into an exchange of bitter words followed by weeks of silence. One morning there was a knock on John's door. He opened it to find a man with a carpenter's toolbox. "I'm looking for a few days work" he said. "Perhaps you would have a few small jobs here and there I could help with? Could I help you?" "Yes," said the older brother. "I do have a job for you. Look across the creek at that farm. That's my neighbor, in fact, it's my younger brother. Last week there was a meadow between us and he took his bulldozer to the river levee and now there is a creek between us. Well, he may have done this to spite me, but I'll go him one better. See that pile of lumber by the barn? I want you to build me a fence - - an 8-foot fence -- so I won't need to see his place or his face anymore." The carpenter said, "I think I understand the situation. Show me the nails and the post hole digger and I'll be able to do a job that pleases you." The older brother had to go to town, so he helped the carpenter get the materials ready and then he was off for the day. The carpenter worked hard all that day measuring, sawing, nailing, and hammering. About sunset when the farmer returned, the carpenter had just finished his job. The farmer's eyes opened wide, his jaw dropped. There was no fence there at all. It was a bridge -- a bridge stretching from one side of the creek to the other! A fine piece of work handrails and all -- and the neighbor, his younger brother, was coming across, his hand outstretched. "You are quite a fellow to build this bridge after all I've said and done." The two brothers stood at each end of the bridge, and then they met in the middle, taking each other's hand. They turned to see the carpenter hoist his toolbox on his shoulder. "No, wait! Stay a few days. I've a lot of other projects for you," said the older brother. "I'd love to stay on," the carpenter said, "but, I have many more bridges to build."

I think we can separate the comment from the person. Irshad Manji isn't worthy of a response...her account is in default and thats a matter between her and her maker. The real issue is the shorthcomings of the Muslim ummah (especially in the middle east). Leaders of Muslim countries have dropped the ball and have allowed The US and other profit seeking empirailists to blatantly trample on the Muslim people. The same Muslim people came out to protest a crime against the Quraan and a lot died (causes of death withheld - maybe shot by americans?). I can only pray to have the Imaan those who protested and died for the sole reason of being replused by the desecration of our Holy book. I'm sure there were some there who attended for the politics of it all. and again, we can neither judge nor speculate as they're reasons. At the end of the day we all have limits of tolerance as to what you may consider an action-worthy insult to your religion.

Waa isla hadley/ wee isla hadashey - Multiple personalities. especially when the different personalities don't speak the same language, hence the that confused look "special" people have when the voices explaining complex mathematical equations are in korean and all he/she can reply is "Yaah?" Labo fiilo aa is taabatey - Short-circuit mostly cause by extended subtance abuse. The information proceesing procedures are rudely interrupted from time to time causing an acute mix-up of data. This can be harmless such as when you begin singing a song and then find yourself singing a completely different song. Or it can be serious such a 'alternative lifestyle' gender confusion. Olyadi iyo biyihi oo/ay iskudartey This one is long gone and beyond help...long term foriegn-language voices and short-cicuits have lead to a lot of blown fuses. Things are so scrambled that at this point he/she can see music and smell the color yellow.

....and half way thru that rant I was hoping you'd make a reference to where I specified which person(s) I was refering to. you have argued from the assumed premise that Phanta and then I dont have the right qualification to speak on the subjects at hand. WHERE? maybe you just enjoy being a victim and automatically apply every comment to yourself. if I'm walking down the street and someone yells "PEDOPHILE" I don't know about you, but I automatically know they're not talking to or about me. Since you chose to single yourself out and shoulder the load, maybe you know something I don't. (and again thats between you and your creator) 1561. Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "When two persons indulge in abusing each other, the beginner will be the sinner so long as the oppressed does not transgress the limits.'' [Muslim]. Go back to the beginning and re-analyse the situation cause the only time I refered to anyone specifically is Phanta as defensive aggression. "When any Muslim accuses another Muslim of sin or of disbelief, the reproach rebounds upon the one who utters it, if the other person is not deserving of it.'' Incase you missed it.... ...if the other person is not deserving of it.'' If the guy/girl doesn't pray, what claim does he/she have to the diin? It's clearly impossible to have a conversation with someone who searches for faults in every word... May Allah guide you and I both. p.s. FF, You're a breath of fresh air...I'm getting thristy from nonsense flying around here. let me get a glass of water and I'll get back to you on your questions.
-
Phanta, I'm sorry you decided to ignore People do things for a reason. She has her reasons for not praying or wearing a hijab (too busy, thinks its old fashioned, wuduu dries up her skin, blah blah blah, etc, etc), thats her issue between her and Allah. I'm not a Muslim woman and contarty to your assumption I can't speak for women matters in Islam. I can't be a mouth peice for Muslim women. and at NO POINT HAVE I DEMANDED YOU OR ANY OTHER WOMAN HERE TO DO ANYTHING. I asked a question about representation, in EVERY POST i've made in this topic which has been IGNORED over and over again. I haven't named names and i haven't pointed a finger and specific...yet I'm judgemental or one-dimensional Manipulator of words a hypocrite FOR WHAT? The notion that a girl can't speak of issues that relate directly to her as a muslim woman, because she doesn't wear the hijab, or doesn't pray is plain wrong. What makes her a Muslim? heritage? name?
-
Amethyst, There's no contradiction...I see a very clear line between being advised by a hypocrite and being represented by one. And I'm increasingly astonished by how you and Phanta always deflect issues. This isn't about me looking or feeling better, and I have nothing to gain in trying to "manipulate the words of others". This is neither about me or you. The core matter is the qualifications needed to speak on behalf of something you don't practice. If you do practise the religion as you should, then there is nothing to be offended by. So you’re saying that a non-practising muslim woman ( try not to come back at me personally with another deplorable all time low response assuming things about me, this is your term, not mine) has no right to discuss issues relating to the Islamic women? Yes I am saying "non-practising" muslim woman has no right to discuss issues relating to the Islamic women. How can she? She doesn't know what it means to be Muslim. She may have an idea, but she doesn't live it. Is that what you find weak and illogical? People do things for a reason. She has her reasons for not praying or wearing a hijab (too busy, thinks its old fashioned, wuduu dries up her skin, blah blah blah, etc, etc), thats her issue between her and Allah. If YOU make the sacrifice and overcome the obstacles and live your diin, how fair is it to YOU to have someone like that speak and tell you what you SHOULD do? p.s. I haven't claimed to be holier-than-thou... and asking "what's your take on this?" shouldn't be answered with "how dare you ask?"

excuse the low-rise jeans out burst it was a general sweeping statement and unfair. Originally posted by Phantasma: [QB] Categories . That YOU created. Which we have to CHOOSE from. Otherwise we are NOT FIT to discuss advanced 'feminine roles'.QB] Now who's twisting words and taking them out of context. You're right about the categories not being "law" (they're not mine btw, I borrowed them from this article ). But do you disagree that a non-practising (not implying you) Islamic woman should not attempt to discuss matter relating to Feminism and the Islamic woman? Do you feel she's qualified if she a hard time sticking to the basic requirements such as Salah and Hijab? Thats my line of questioning...I may go off on a tangent from time to time, but I can admit a mistake (hint hint)
-
My questions were "DO YOU PRAY?" and "ARE YOU ISLAMICALLY PRESENTABLE?" if thats silly and irrelevant to you and you'd rather stick with "WHY ARE YOU ASSOCIATING THE WORD 'RECIPE' WITH WOMEN?" then you and I do not share the same set of priorities. P.S. IF you DON'T adhere to those expectations of Islamic women (and thats none of my business) and your reasoning should not be "UD, if you're not a wadaad it makes it OK for me to wear low-rise jeans and not cover my hair." is an easy assumption to make when I ask if you pray and your response is to get aggressively defensive. But then again along with a big bucket of sarcasm, that is your forte .
-
Phantasma, You can't excuse behaviour by saying "well you're not doing it why should I". FYI you don't know my state of Iman and I don't know yours. IF you DON'T adhere to those expectations of Islamic women (and thats none of my business) and your reasoning should not be "UD, if you're not a wadaad it makes it OK for me to wear low-rise jeans and not cover my hair." the truth is the truth regardless of the source... If an alcoholic murderer tells you to pray 5 times a day, does it give his message any less meaning?
-
Would I be wrong to assume all you girls wear a hijab and pray 5 times a day? Cause if you don't you probably shouldn't be trying to debate the advanced issues of Feminine roles. - You gotta crawl before you walk and you gotta walk before you run. What category do you fall in: 1) the women who wear Hijab out of conviction that it is the Islamic thing to do. 2) the women who wear it only because their mothers and grandmothers wore it; unaware of its true Islamic significance. 3) there are the secular "Muslim" women, who almost never practice Islam anyway, but who have Muslim names and roots, who make it a point to appear at all Muslim gatherings with hair fashionably styled in full public glory.

Congrats saaxib.... Hope you have your checklist of things to do: *you have to teach your child to talk and walk then you have to teach it shut-up and sit down.

106 & park, Saaxib you are turning out to be the master bad assumptions. judging from your lame response you seem to have thought I was refering to you. And since you seems to be looking for a argument, pimp, let me add you to the fake critic list. Instead of just agreeing or diagreeing with people, why don't you read a book and try to generate an original idea.

TO WHOM EVER IT MAY CONCERN, The Self assigned critics of SOL (you know yourselves): "A critic is someone who never actually goes to the battle, yet who afterwards comes out shooting the wounded" "When we judge or criticize another person, it says nothing about that person; it merely says something about our own need to be critical."
